I'm happy to announce that one of the most talented up and coming hip hop producers, L'Orange, is going to be on the HHB tomorrow at 3pm for a Q&A session. I've talked to him every now and then over the course of the last year with the hopes that he'd agree to come on here. Believe it or not last night he actually reached out to me saying he's down tomorrow to do it.

I'm gonna pin this thread to the top. Any questions heads have for him between now and tomorrow afternoon you can post in here and hopefully he'll be able to answer all of them when he logs on. Also if you're on here tomorrow afternoon you can obviously do a real time Q&A as well with him. Any troll/spam posts will get clipped.

For anyone not that familiar with L'Orange he's a producer out of North Carolina that has perfected what i label as a boom bap noir type of sound. Uses a lot of 50's samples in his beats and has a really unique style. He also produced my favorite album of 2013...

...as well as an album with Jeremiah Jae earlier this year and he's got an album with UGHH legend Kool Keith dropping in a few weeks.

Here's his whole discog...

http://lorangeproductions.com/

So anyone that's interested start dropping some questions itt.

if no, could you, instead, just make a mash-up project, where you put blu's lyrics from previous blu songs over some of your original beats? ideally less known previous blu songs. i hate when mash-ups use lyrics from real famous tracks.

Some questions im interested in knowing...

How did the album with Kool Keith come about? Did Keith reach out to you, vice versa, or did MMG set it up? Have you ever met him or was the entirety of the album done through e-mail and what not?

How did your style come about? Were you just experimenting with different sounds and samples or did you know the direction you wanted to go when you started out?

Any emcees/groups you want to work with that hasn't come to fruition yet?

Questions:

1) I see your sound as having a definite edge over many current producers beats as your beats have more detail and they change up a fair amount. You also are using more than just one piece of equipment to make your beats. Can you please let us know what equipment you use the most and why? Also, how important is it to you to make beats that are detail oriented and not repetitive and one dimensional etc?

2)Who are your favorite producers of all time and your largest influences/inspiration production-wise?

my question is "at this point, are you more concerned with working with a name or working with an incredible emcee that would murder your beats ?"...I asked cause alotta dope producers tend to work with average emcees as if they're intimidated of their beats being outshined by the emcee...I always wanted to ask a producer that question..

Good work Clock for making this happen.

No doubt. He's got a bunch of fans on here so im glad he decided to take time to answer some questions. And the fact that he reached out to me via Twitter DM saying he's down to do this was cool.

As far as the troll/spam shit goes, im not going to be on some iron fist 'don't ruin my thread!!!' tip. The difference bewtween rap/hip hop or polys question about answering questions from a bunch of faggets is lulz. I'm talking more in the sense of people just being complete jerk offs and/or some fagget with 3 posts trying to get L'Orange to hear their music.

Couple more questions...

If you had to pick one album you've produced as your favorite one which would it be?

Do you know of any other MMG labelmates that peep this forum?

How bad do you think Apollo Brown sucks as a producer? Can you please take all of his current collabs away from him? Also, were you shocked that Stik Figa turned CUTC into a classic? I woulda been worried that I was wasting those beats on him, but I'm not sure if any emcee could have done better. Was that luck?

88 - "are you ever going to make a full album with blu? if yes, when?"

Possibly. He and I have definitely talked about it, but we both plan pretty far into the future and neither of us have had any time to set aside to do something. I've got a lot of respect for what he does. So if we do work on something, I'd like to make sure we can both focus on it completely and make it some of our best work.

Clock-
"How did the album with Kool Keith come about? Did Keith reach out to you, vice versa, or did MMG set it up? Have you ever met him or was the entirety of the album done through e-mail and what not?"

I had talked to Mello about wanting to work on a full length after we did the track on Persona. I'm a big fan of not only what he's done, but his stylistic legacy. Mello put us in touch and we went from there designing a concept.

"How did your style come about? Were you just experimenting with different sounds and samples or did you know the direction you wanted to go when you started out?"

It was largely experimental. I produced for five years before I put out an album. Once I found my style I just worked to tighten it up and find things that made my work unique. One part of it was not having a large selection of vinyl in my hometown. I ended up sampling dollar records almost exclusively for all my albums. Hopefully that gave me some edge creatively.

"Any emcees/groups you want to work with that hasn't come to fruition yet?"

Absolutely. I'm a big fan of Denmark Vessey, Noveliss, Add-2, YC The Cynic, Chester Watson and a lot more but those are a few off the top of my head.

I covered the Blu question, but Has-Lo and Homeboy Sandman are both very talented MCs. I'd be happy to work with either one. Homeboy Sandman, in particular, is someone that I would love to collaborate more with. There is a genius to his approach.

Loewi -

"1. How do you pronounce your name?

2. Please do an entire album with billy woods?"

1. Any pronunciation is fine, but the two most common are Luh-Ronj or El-Orange

2. He and I talk pretty frequently. He's a good guy and amazing to collaborate with. He and I both have our labels though, so we'd have to work out something between Mello and Backwoodz.
