i remember seeing the ralph steadman gonzo art book at barnes and noble maybe 8-9 yrs ago and i left it. i really want that. i could surely get it online but ill never forget leaving that and never seeing it in a store again. i actually saw this framed pic of the mad magazine guy yesterday at my job where hes dressed like hunter s thompson and instead of "mad" above his head it said "gonzo" i may buy it. its 10 bucks.

^^i liked "a cooks tour" wen he was briefly on the food network, actually his first show. he used to diss rachel ray and emeril which was funny at the time. but hes a fuckin snobby dick but even more so then the average chef. he gets on my nerves.

No vinyl this week, but I've been racking up art. Been selling a lot lately too, but these are some new peices that caught my eye.

Also hopefully *balls crossed* I'll have one of these next week. They're from San Diego Comic Con, only 7 made. I have 3 people there going for it, so with a bit of luck one of them will get one before they sell out.

SDCC will also have the OG Contra soundtrack and Portal 2 soundtrack and probably another theyre waiting to reveal.

I get a family discount through Nike but rarely use it. Instead of $100 before tax and shipping, they were $60 with tax and shipping. Couldn't pass it up.

I usually rock some Costco $20-$30 shoes. I'm not a shoe guy...except dress shoes. Then I got some $300-$400 shit, mostly Allen Edmonds.

Pretty stoked to have some Kobe's now...

yeah clock that site is incredible, i wouldn't have 1/4 as many books as i do without it lol. let me know what you think of that izombie omnibus once you read it.

sandman is one of the best comics ever, i definitely recommend it. i have all of the absolutes except for the spin off, Death. nothing i can really say about it that hasnt been said already. i'd even go as far as to say it kinda transcends the comic book medium into actual literature lol. the absolute edtions themselves are beautiful though, my favorite format by far. beautiful, sturdy books with oversized art and a ton of extras. i could post some photobait of a sandman absolute if you want.

Damn tippi! Those thing are hella expensive nowadays. You get them when they first dropped? If i dig the iZombie one i was going to start delving out into other comics and Sandman was one of the ones i came across.

What are your Top 5 Ombinus'/Absolutes?

nah, i didn't get them when they first came out. i read a good chunk of the series online before i actually bought it. i think i got the first absolute in like 2011 from barnes and noble. the rest i got online from IST, they're like 55 bucks each on there.

damn, only 5? alright i'll try..

1. animal man by grant morrison - the character sounds lame on paper, but i promise it's not. this is the first book by grant morrison i ever read, who is now probably my favorite comic book writer.

2. planetary omnibus by warren ellis - i consider this to be warren ellis's magnum opus. a lot of people say that transmetropolitan is his best work, which i love, but i definitely prefer planetary. such a good book. the story is fantastic on it's own, by the references and the way it pays homage to the medium are what makes this book shine imo. it's pretty cheap for a book of it's size too, it's about 850 pages and you should be able to find it for under $50 easily.

3. infinity gauntlet omnibus - one of the first omni's i ever bought. jim starlin's classic marvel cosmic epic + all the crossovers in one book. probably my favorite marvel event, i read the tpb as a kid and it blew me away. they're putting out a slipcase boxset next year with the whole "infinity" saga. i don't know what the price is yet but it's going to be around 5000 pages worth of material.

4. sandman by neil gaiman - sandman completely changed my view/opinion on the comic book medium as a whole. before i read this i didn't know that non-superhero stuff even existed really. some of the best writing in comics imo. one of my favorite artists of all time, yoshitaka amano, did the artwork for the dream hunters story which is in the 5th absolute volume.

5. daredevil by frank miller - daredevil has always been one of my favorite marvel heroes, and he's probably had more noteworthy runs than any other comic book character in history. waid, bendis, brubaker.. they're all great, but frank miller's run will always be number 1 for me. born again, the man without fear, and the elektra saga are some of my favorite daredevil stories ever.

some other favorites -

earth x - jim krueger
doom patrol - grant morrison
swamp thing - alan moore
watchmen - alan moore
transmetropolitan - warren ellis
saga - brian k vaughan
moon knight doug moench
y the last man - brian k vaughan
preacher - garth ennis
hellboy & BPRD - mike mignola
squadron supreme - mark grunwald
fantastic four - jonathan hickman
spider-man - roger stern
miracleman - first run by alan moore, second by neil gaiman.
batman - grant morrison
kingdom come - mark waid and alex ross
uncanny x-force by rick remender
new x-men by grant morrison
astonishing x-men - joss whedon
punisher MAX - garth ennis
the incal - alexandro jodorowsky & moebius

if you're looking for specific recommendations though i can suggest some stuff that stands on it's own and doesn't require a ton of pre-existing knowledge about comic book continuity to appreciate. image would probably be your best bet for stuff like that, since it's all creator owned self-contained stories. lazarus, saga, east of west, nailbiter, fatale, deadly class, black science, injection, velvet, southern bastards, and wicked + the divine are all dope. there's plenty of stuff from the big two that stands on it's own though.

killing joke and year one are essentials if you're a fan of batman at all. i also recommend daredevil yellow, spider-man blue, and hulk grey by jeph loeb and tim sale. they're all self contained stories and they're all collected in one book which you can get for like 40 bucks, or in trades for 10 bucks each.

Holy fuck tippi. You went above and beyond with the explanations of each. Major props. Going to bookmark this thread for if/when i start delving into them. I actually was peeping various ones on Amazon the other day and came across that Planetary one. Looked interesting. Are there any sites you know of to read and/or sample the books before copping them? I know Google store you can sometimes sample the first few pages of a book but was hoping for more.

no problem man. i would have written more but that was actually my second time typing that response, chrome crashed after i was almost finished typing the first one. pretty frustrating lol. i had a whole paragraph written for animal man, planetary, and infinity gauntlet. oh well.

readcomiconline.to sounds like what you're looking for. marvel also has a subscription service called marvel unlimited which i think is like 10 bucks a month, there's a lot of stuff on there but not everything. i believe theres an app for phonests too. i never really read comics digitally unless i have to though, which does happen since some books are out of print/hard to find. i'd much rather hold the physical book in my hands and it's easy to get friends to read books you recommend when you can just put it right in their hand.

also, if i'm unsure about whether or not i'm going to like an omnibus or any type of larger collected edition, i'll usually just buy the first trade paperback of a series to see if i like it. those usually have 6-10 issues each and are much cheaper.

Either way definitely going to read first issue or two before deciding to pull the trigger on something expensive.

yeah a lot of them are out of print, some eventually get reprinted though. best way to tell is to see what's available on IST. if a book is OOP instocktrades won't have it. that doesn't necessarily mean it's going to be overpriced, but usually that's the case. there are some that go for 300-400 bucks, which i would never pay for a book no matter how badly i wanted it. once a book is OOP it will immediately sell for more than cover price, which is usually 100 or 125 bucks. good thing about that though is that i get em for half that from IST, if i were to sell my collection right now i'd get 3x as much as i paid for it easy.

i definitely don't blame you for wanting to preview books before buying them though, especially when you're new to the medium and aren't really sure what your taste is or what you enjoy. some people get really turned off by the older golden/silver age stuff because of the writing, and some people don't like a lot of the 90's stuff because of the art style that was popular at the time. i like the old stuff but i usually have to balance it out by reading something more modern at the same time. i usually just pay attention to the writers/artists and follow the ones i like. i'm pretty much down to check out anything by grant morrison, neil gaiman, alan moore, greg rucka, brian k vaughan, rick remender, jonathan hickman, mike mignola, tom king, ed brubaker, or warren ellis.

hey man, you should have called the thread "gino's recent acquisitions and no one elses" then to avoid confusion. i will not be blamed for this lol. that's on you.

if you seriously want to keep a log for cds you buy though, you should consider using discogs and adding cds to your collection on there as you get em.

yeah that's not a bad price at all. good thing about collecting something like that is you never know where or when you're gonna find em, so you've always got something to look out for. plus its something practical that you actually use. never really understood why people collect coins, stamps, bottle caps, etc. yeah there's a lot of different ones but they're just gonna sit there and gather dust lol.

i think i've seen a darth vader one before. there's a yoda one too where his ears are the handles.

i have a coffee mug that is almost half the pot. its green and i got it like 3 yrs ago. i did buy 2 of those bubba travel mugs that DO hold the whole pot. and how cute they are that the spout is meant to pour into cups to share. i drink right from the tap. lol 104 ounces of coffee a day we realized i drink. sometimes more.

just got the sam the sleezbag/ dj mekalek double cassette (already had the 3xcd) plays better on the tape imo, sounds dustier

the new buze brovaz cd

and

marq spekt - pretty weapons cd

is marq spekt underrated?

seems like his whole catalog is raw hip hop, but we don't talk much about him on here.

now hes got his own label (grilchy party) and he's putting out albums like adebisi hat and his upcoming vinyl release which looks promising.

seems it's time he gets his props sorta like billy woods been getting on here in recent months.

the pretty weapons album is raw as fuck and so is the one i got from his old group broady champs and so was invizibl men w karneige etc etc. plus them albums with blockhead, the one he did with kno, and all the other stuff he's done in the last few years is def worth checking (grilchy tape) if yall ain't hip

before we get carried away and act like im some unruly disorganized spaz on all that caffeine. its to counter balance how tired my bi polar medication makes me. sometimes i break thru and it defeats the purpose of calming the mania lol but it usually brings me to even or atleast my even. im naturally high strung and quick talker. but ill tell u this and across the board ive been agreed with. but coffee or literally nething that speeds u up to a degree is monsterous for ur libido. i dont need viagra if i slam a pot of coffee before i have a chick over. its really crazy. like horn ball juice.
