reposting this from the other thread discussing this album:

been listening to this on repeat since last night, this is exactly what i wanted and hoped for when ka and animoss announced they were doing an album together. animoss's production fits ka perfectly on here.

i really enjoyed honor killed the samurai but i'd say this album's even better and it seems to be stronger conceptually. i've always been interested in greek mythology and it's cool to hear all of these metaphors and mentions to sisyphus, cerberus, the golden fleece, river styx, the three furies, medusa, argo, etc and how related them to his own life and experiences. the vocal samples on here are really dope too and a lot to the album, i need to find out where they're from.

i can already tell this album will have a lot of replayability for me, especially because of the shorter length of the album and the way the tracks transition into each other.

favorite tracks right now:

sirens (that video is incredible)
atlas
golden fleece
the punishment of sisyphus
hades

The production throughout is amazing, but the tracks "Orpheus" and "Golden Fleece" are on another level. Possibly the best produced tracks of the year, so far.

So fucking dope. Going in i was happy Ka wasn't doing the production as i felt his last album fell flat and it also allowed him to focus solely on the lyrics. Animoss knocked it out the park on the production. Has a cinematic vibe to it, is cohesive, and seemingly fits the theme they were going for. I gotta bump more to really focus in on the lyrics but from what i picked up through one listen it's got the usual Ka vibe to them.

This is seriously one of the best albums Iíve heard in a long time. This might be the best Ka album as well. Everything from the theme to the production to the lyrics is just absolutely phenomenal. The sequencing, the samples, the way it all just fits together. Damn. This is what a well crafted hip-hop album should sound like in 2018. The epitome of loving your craft. I can see myself listening to this album for a long ass time. Classic shit for sure.

The Punishment of Sisyphus...my god

Ka is just a master MC. The way he can draw these parallels between one setting and street life is amazing. He did it with chess on Knight's Gambit, with Samurai life/ways on Honor Killed the Samurai, and now with Greek mythology... Ka is one of the greatest to ever do it.

i agree technosapien, plus he did it on days with yen lo too using the manchurian candidate as an extended metaphor. he's gotta be one of the greatest writers that hip hop has ever seen, damn near every line has impact no matter how simple it is.

lmao Cl0ck.

yeah that guy kind of does remind me of myself in the sense that he is a cringey (white?) nerdbomb. I would never give a album review on youtube though. His review sucks though for sure. Dude doesn't know how to pronounce Oedipus though which is kind of pretty stupid especially since he can just look it up on the internet.

im only peeping this cuz some of yall are saying its his best album. i think ive heard his catalog now but maybe 1 album i mighta missed. lol at a 39 reply thread thats gonna maybe go to 50-60 by next weekend being aoty. u can be the best writer ever but if ur voice is uninteresting and ur delivery is unisom levels u can take ur wordplay and run down the block with it in the opposite direction. im gonna find the calmest part of the day to listen to this and ill be honest but openminded tho i promise.

ive listened to so much snoozy shit the past 3-4 yrs but ka is just too slow for me. like i said tho, im gonna go into this as openminded as i possibly can cuz even tho hes slow, thers way worse than ka to me. i just dont get the aoty shit as far as his projects go. ther beyond niche. i imagine even some roc fans wouldnt fuck with ka hes so slow.

Yo ETW you can't look at thread replies dictating every AOTY. That Muggs tape has like 145 replies and its barely cracking my Top 10 plus this is only on HHB right now. No one's gotten physicals, no stream, and not on YouTube.

The heads on here that dislike Roc and Ka's style aren't going to magically be moved to digging this album. With that being said, Yen Lo and RR1 have both won AOTY on here so they're doing something right.

Three best albums for me since May are this, Knowledge, and Pusha.

I meant physicals, streams, etc of the Ka album. I totally butchered those sentences so i could see why you'd think i was referring to the Muggs album.

The album has only dropped on HHB and maybe iTunes so unless you were in NYC yesterday there's no physicals yet. I was saying that in reference to the number of posts so far itt that ETW was talking about.
