SirRager - "what'd you grow up listening to?"

I grew up listening to jazz. For some reason or another, I sought it out when I was a kid.

SP90s - "Any plans on tour? A Stik Figa, Jeremiah Jae, and Kool Keith headlining show would be amazing."

I would love to. I was supposed to tour the last two years but I've had health problems that have made travel difficult.

iron and ninth of Him - "hey L'Orange, what's the difference between hiphop and rap?

and what kind of music do you make?"

I think that depends on the person. Everyone has their preferred parlance but I don't give it a lot of value. The music will speak for itself usually.

I'm not sure. That's a good question. Hiphop I'd say. I guess I've never referred to my music as rap so you might have a point.

I Love Nike - "You ever make beats on songs that have actually got play on the radio, tv, or club besides local college stations in the Ukriane and milipitas ca?"

Sure. Produced for some commercials, done some radio scoring. I just make the music I enjoy and enjoy making. I'm happy that I've found people that enjoy it, Ukrainian academics or not.

datn***aREDD - "at this point, are you more concerned with working with a name or working with an incredible emcee that would murder your beats ?"

The talented MCs will always come first. But, I'm not looking for the MC that can murder everyone on the mic. I'm looking for the MC that can use his voice as an instrument to make the song cohesive. I put the respect and talent before anything.

I Love Nike - "Also I've noticed in your sampling technique that you like to turn the volume up on cracklling noises of vinyl? Is this your technique vs clean sampling that 99.9% of all beatmakers do and if you heard it in the 90s is because they couldn't drown out the vinyl because the copy was worn and if it was mint they would drown it out..."

Yeah that's very true man. That's definitely a part of my style. I sometimes prefer worn vinyl to new. But the crackling you're hearing is the kind of wobbly compression I use to create rhythms out of the pops and crackles.

iron and ninth of Him - "9th wonder is from NC too and he ended up producing tracks for mainstream rappers like Jay-Z, Ludacris, etc

but you're not a sellout like he is, right?"

I've got a lot of respect for Ninth. Growing up in NC, he was a big influence. I'm sure if I got the opportunity to produce for Jay-Z and Ludacris I would too.

Do you know of any other MMG labelmates that peep this forum?"

Probably The Mad Writer. It's a very personal and autobiographical album.

No I don't unfortunately. I'm sure there are others, but it's never come up in conversation.

david_icke's windbreaker -
"Are hi hats different in france?"

Wouldn't know. Never been to France.

"Wat do u do when a rapper ur working with cant count bars accurately?"

This happens more often than you'd think actually. Normally I edit down the song to make everything fit. It usually ends up making the track more interesting, ironically.

"Wats better too many hi hats or not enough hihats?"

I'd say not enough. There's a lot of classic material with very light hihats. Too many can ruin a song.

"Who r some other french rap artists you know that r dope that we havent heard yet in the usa?"

Hm. I'm not french and I don't know a lot of french artists. Is Onra french? I dig his work.

SP90s - "L'Orange do you collect vinyl? Name a couple of your most prized records."

Of course. I've got a couple thousand records, but my favorites are the records I've had signed by artists I know and respect- Traveling Man by Oddisee, Dark Comedy by Open Mike Eagle, Pillars EP by MindsOne.

I've also got a few radio records that I cherish.

Cool Guy Jimmy - "How bad do you think Apollo Brown sucks as a producer? Can you please take all of his current collabs away from him? Also, were you shocked that Stik Figa turned CUTC into a classic? I woulda been worried that I was wasting those beats on him, but I'm not sure if any emcee could have done better. Was that luck?"

I like Apollo Brown's style a lot. He builds a lot of soul and complexity into his work.

I wasn't surprised at all. I wanted to do a project with Stik for a reason. He's an incredible MC.

In The Aeroplane Over The Sea by Neutral Milk Hotel. First one that came to mind at least.

quick questions for mr. L Orange..

1) Xbox One or PS4?

2) Do you think Jon Snow is dead, or will he return next season, on Game of Thrones?

3) Caitlyn Jenner: Would you bang him/her?

4) In 1 word or less, what comes to your mind when you see this image:
