Oh shit I always wondered what that beat and chorus was from as Conway uses it on Devils Rejects part 1 and was the only beat I didn't know where it was originally from, yeah mate very very cool

Ive only ever listened to Good Kid Maad City which I really hated and I skimmed through TPAB

That last verse though, shit, what album is that from?

it's from his album, section.80, which was the album he put out before gkmc, and which a select group of people consider to be his best project.

here's a couple other tracks from that album:

God im starting to regret a lot of shit I said about Kendrick, I could never understand Clockworx love for him as we got very similar taste in this rap shit but these 3 vids have really changed my mind, although I will never feel his singing ever, but tbh I never feel any rapper that sings, just fucking rap and get a real singer if you have too

As for his crew, Schholboy Q and Jay Rock got great voices but very average mc's, Ab-Soul on the other hand is very cool and would like him to do an ep with Statik Selekt as he hasn't got the best ear for beats

to me, schoolboy q is very hit or miss, but, when he makes a great track, it's insanely good.

this track, as well as its spectacular music video, is fucking great to me:

i'm kind of indifferent to jay rock and ab-soul, tbh.

isaiah rashad, however, is incredibly talented, imo. here's an example:

^^^that seems like a track you might like, but i think, in general, isaiah wouldn't be for you, because he sings his hooks quite a bit, and you said above you're not into that stuff. to each his own.

man lpac, it's crazy to me how much you hate on kendrick when you've only listened to one project and skimmed through another.

i'm not saying that you're not entitled to your opinion but the way you talked about him before on here i would have guessed that you had at least heard all his major albums once and gave him a real chance.

The first one Maad City I listened to loads of times coz of all the hype and thought maybe im missing something and except for one or two tracks I felt and still do that its trash, that alien voice and singing was too much for me plus it didn't help it was all over radio 1, TPAB yeah I skimmed through it but again I heard a lot of singing and the infamous alien voice on the skim through and that was enough for me and I don't plan to revisit it, that section 80 im very interested in as its obvious it is more about mc'ing and less about commercial, gonna look for it now on ebay

^Tippi he has only released two proper albums right?

he actually has three "official" albums. section 80 was his debut album, and gkmc was his second album, but marketed as his first major label album (which is a sneaky but honest way of making people think it's his first album altogether).

prior to that he put out a self titled EP in 2009, which is the project that got him a lot of notice in the underground (this EP is when i took notice of him), and then he put out a "mixtape", overly dedicated (which was actually an album, and was even marketed as one, but was later just called a mixtape, so that they could call section.80 his first album). he has projects prior to the 2009 EP, but that EP is when he started getting real notice. the overly dedicated mixtape is, i believe, where dr dre heard kendrick and decided to sign him.

lol, so to conclude, he actually unofficially has four albums out now: one album that's now considered just a mixtape (overly dedicated), one independent album (section.80), and two major label albums (gkmc and tpab). soon to be three major label albums, when his new album drops in the next couple days.

he released a limited amount of cd copies off his label's website. they were in slip cases. i got a copy, when they first came out (no wicked). their label wasn't as big at the time, though, so there was only a limited amount. same goes for the early releases of the other members, such as absoul's control system, schoolboy q's habits and contradictions, and isaiah rashad's cilvia.

section.80 is a proper album, that's his debut. like 88 mentioned earlier , there's a lot of people who consider section.80 to be his best album - myself included. it's a lot more focused on rapping than GKMC/TPAB which are straight up concept albums. the fact that you only skipped through TPAB certainly isn't going to do that album any justice either. i'm a huge fan of kendrick i don't revisit that album very often, maybe 4 times in the last year, but when i do i listen to it straight through from beginning to end.

you should also check out his mixtape "overly dedicated" which came out back in 2010, i like that project a lot too. ignorance is bliss was the first kendrick track i ever heard.

kendrick has talent but his downfall will be choosing too many current synthy mainstream beats and using cheesy trendy terms, references etc in some of his rhymes. (conforming to the popular culture) he should do an album with strictly raw beats. even a madlib, flylo jumpoff with a beat or 2 by dj quik.

you're probably right 88. i think he'd like most of section.80 though. so many great individual tracks on there that stand on their own and don't rely on the overall concept or a story/narrative being told across the entire album.

Kendrick is easily the best hip hop artist on the planet...hands down. But guys like LPac, no mask, Wicked and even Ollie disregard him because he works with Dr. Dre and his music is universal. It's the dumbest thing I have ever heard of. He's popular so I don't like him. Guaranteed LPac hasn't heard GKMC. Otherwise you would have heard Money Trees, The Art of Peer Pressure, etc.

That's like saying, "I don't like The Dark Knight Rises because it did $1 billion in sales" - when it's one of the best movies ever made.

yeah, rappers do that a lot now. they'll put out an album this month and call it their debut album. then, next year, they'll put out a new project and say that's their debut. chuuwee's put out six debut albums by now, lol. it's just a marketing ploy.

if you called your last project your debut album, but it didn't blow you up into the stratosphere of popularity, then you call your next project your debut album in hopes it'll blow you up, and act like you never called the previous project your debut. "no, that was just a mixtape".

if overly dedicated blew kendrick up, i guarantee you wikipedia would list that in the studio albums section, rather than the mixtape section. and if section.80 didn't blow him up, i also guarantee that'd be listed in the mixtape section, and some later project would be his "debut studio album". iiwii.

i specifically remember the singles for overly dedicated coming out, and all the blogs saying it was kendrick's debut album. just like how wildstyle was chuuwee's debut album.

schoolboy q is like whoopi goldberg. hollywood loved whoopi, but struggled so much trying to figure out where to use her, what roles to give her. she was too unique. q's like that. he's so eccentric. sometimes in a great way, sometimes not so much. on his last two albums, you could see him experimenting with his sounds, trying to feel his way into a comfort zone. some worked, some didn't, like all experiments.

Section 80 is my favorite album from him. GKMC is aight but massively overrated and TPAB is, as tippi said, more of a listen to front to back a few times a year album because of it being a heavy concept one. Only spun it once so far this year and maybe 3 times last year.

Favorite track off Section 80...

I hope this new album is more like Section 80 and less concept heavy. Only few hours till it drops. Also don't forget his verses on Compton. He killed all of them. YouTube took down all the links or id post them.

Schoolboy's album are both 80% filler with a couple really dope tracks. As an emcee he's good but his albums both suck.
