DVRing right now while I cook up some steaks for dinner. Will report back.

I loved in the trailers on HBO the Jimmy Iovine sample that was on Compton...I think it was on All In A Days Work.

I guarantee this will be epic.

Turned out to be really fucking dope. Yea the opening to Compton was an actual news report from what looks like the 70's that they got on this doc which was dope. A lot of the Iovine story this episode he told on the Stern interview but it was dope seeing visuals. And they got the top shelf interviews too. Springsteen, Patti Smith, Cube, dudes from World Class Wreckin Cru, etc.

Also glad they have this play out over four nights in a row and not one episode a week.

Couldn't wait and just finished it. Very well done. Everything about it really. All the personal perspectives of the stories, the editing, the sequencing/story-telling... very dope.

It's awesome how they got so many people to contribute with actual interviews just in this first episode alone. Definitely excited for the rest of the series.

Damn, part 2 was ridiculous.

The DOC shit was ill.

Didn't know about Stevie Nicks and Jimmy. Great stuff. Full disclosure: I'm a huge fan of Stevie Nicks. My favorite female singer of all time.

Tom Petty went to high school with my mom and uncle so I grew up with his music and still rock his albums.

Seriously, this better be up for awards.

Part 3 was fucking amazing. Co-sign this better win some awards. The episode really took the fuck off once they Iovine and Dre met and the subsequent events both leading up to them meeting and after with the episode ending in Pac's death. So many behind the scenes moments I had never peeped and interviews with every fucking who's who in the industry. Even the part with Trent Reznor was interesting. If they dropped this shit on DVD id cop in a heartbeat. Saw that Part 4 has the Eminem introduction. Going to peep it later tonight or tomorrow.

Finished it yesterday. So incredible.

NWS, completely agree about Dre rocking out to Nirvana. Dope as fuck!!

Also, don't recall which episode, but when they were doing the intro to Fuck Tha Police in the studio and then the track came in, I don't know why, but that shit gave me chills. Being able to see all the behind the scenes and context from the artists/people interviewed is very cool. And I had no idea how prolific Jimmy Iovine was. No. Idea. At. All. Pretty incredible really.

This fills in some gaps left out of Straight Outta Compton. And I think that was intentional. I mean a 2 hour movie can't capture 2+ decades of a story and they had the entertainment factor to deal with.

This series has obviously been in the works for quite some time.

Totally agree Clock and NWS. This shit better win some serious awards.

And Clock, I would cop on release date if they release a physical of this. That includes a soundtrack as well. Shit would be top shelf and a complete mind fuck of genre blending.

For the record, Stevie Nicks is definitely a personal fav. Thanks to my moms for playing her and Fleetwood all the time growing up.

Finished Part 4 this morning and easily one of the best music docs I've ever seen. Yo ETW where the fuck you at bro? You would love this shit.

Even with knowing most of those Eminem tidbits, it was still dope seeing both of them describe it as well as it being at a time where Dre dropped back to back flops and a lot of peeps wanted him off the label. A lot of those videos regarding to the controversy Em was at that time brought me right back to that time frame.

Dope we got a little behind the scenes into the Compton recording sessions.

I also liked how they dug into the file sharing era and the origins of Beats headphones.

One of the most mindfucking parts of the doc was that Suge, JFK Jr, Iovine, and a bunch of other heads would play football games on Iovine's property back in the mid 90's.

Highly recommended. I hit the director up on Twitter about a DVD release but still waiting on a response. Going to re-watch it in next few weeks.

I would buy the DVD too. I told the wifey about it and when she watches it, I'm watching it again.

The Suge and Jimmy relationship is just crazy. The best was Suge telling Dionne Warwick over and over "I'm down the street, I'm at the light" and then when she figures out he fucked her over for the big meeting with Time Warner, Suge says "I thought you were the psychic".

Honestly, this is history. We lived through these events from a distance and this documentary just brought everything to light. The timing could not have been more perfect.

The other thing I loved was Jimmy in a bathroom for a year calling Trent Reznor everyday for a year. The way he closed that deal is inspiring.

Must see Gino and everyone!

Co-sign all of that NWS. Shit cracked me up how Suge played her like that.

Really interested to see what 88 and sp90s thinks of this. Not necessarily from a content standpoint, but more from a story-telling, sequencing, film-making standpoint.

Definitely agree this is a must watch series for anybody that frequents these boards.

Yea that Suge story was funny as fuck.

Even the piece on Gwen Stefani and No Doubt was interesting, especially the footage of her young as fuck and not known. I was a closet No Doubt stan back in the mid 90's.

Another funny part was Primus signing to Interscope because they had Gerardo on their label roster.

Hope ETW's watching this tonight cause him, 88, and SP are the three reactions im most anticipating.

Lol Clock. That Gerardo and Primus thing was pretty funny. I seriously had no idea the depth of Interscope's roster. I mean, yes, I knew their rap affiliations/artists quite well, but I would have easily bet someone $100 that Gerardo was not picked up by Interscope, let alone that it was their first signed artist.

And agreed. Definitely want to see what you think of this Gino as I know you are extremely well-versed in rap/hip hop documentaries.

I have not used Beats gear or know anyone that has, so I can't comment.

I don't totally disagree with you Clock, but I can see why they did focus on it so much because of a few factors: how quickly Jimmy ran with the idea once he ran it by Dre, how, despite the challenges of a hardware based product, the success was incredible and it was just another showcase of how prolific Iovine was with marketing and building a brand. If it wouldn't have been for Beats, their market leverage and influence would have been drastically different today.

Oh i don't disagree as it was the driving force behind Apple buying them out for a gazillion dollars. Interesting that Jimmy basically forced anyone that walked into his office to do a photo op wearing he headphones. Genius marketing strategy. The origins of it when they initially asked Dre to do shoes was a cool tidbit. I guess the fact that i heard bad things about them plus that half the episode seemed to be about Beats gave me a 'this is more promo than documentary' type of feel. Even the bit about Lady Gaga they showed was really geared towards Beats.

I have Beats. They're dope as fuck. Expensive - and maybe you can find a competitive pair with better sound and cheaper - but Beats is a really good product.

And they are part of the culture. Kind of like Nike. Is there a more comfortable shoe for cheaper, sure. But they're not Nike.

The marketing is genius.

Eazy was even more raw as a rapper than Dre was at that time. Plus it seemed like Dre was giving him tips on how Eazy should sound on the mic as opposed to telling him what lyrics he should be spitting. Eazy had never rapped a bar in his life prior to those early recording sessions.

Clock, good point about the Beats segment being too much. I didn't take it as a "promo spot", but now that you mention it, I can definitely see that.

Agree with both points Clock and NWS made about Eazy's rapping. Writing is a completely different ball game than rapping. Dre knew how the lyrics should sound and coached Eazy accordingly.

And Clock, I liked how candid Em was about that. Like fuck Beats man... open up them vaults! So many little gems throughout the series. I'll definitely be watching it again in full over the next couple of weeks.

vinny ftw

hate all you want. dude is going to be one of the best passers in the league.

with his height, he will be one of the best rebounding point guards in the league.

when he gets his shot similar to college (41% from 3), he is going to be an all around great player.

Prediction: ROY, Lakers get the 8th seed now that they signed KCP.

Final Prediction: Lebron is coming to the Lakers with one other superstar (Paul George probably) next Summer. Western Conference Finals May 2019.

Lets be real fellas. He put those numbers up against a shitty Sixers D League team that didn't even have Fultz playing. And the Lakers only won by a point.

Rubio averaged 10 and 9 last year. Ball gonna do the same thing if he lucky this year. Lakers still 2 years away. West is way too fucking loaded for them to even think about contending for playoff spot next year. Id take the Suns, Kings, and Pelicans roster over theirs.
