thanks wicked, i just dl'ed that ish! actually almost bought another copy at best buy yesterday, but instead went with 4:44, late registration, and amy winehouse rehab cd (paid $6 for all 3 after gift card)

this will prob make me go get the dre tbh, it prob woulda been a better choice, but old west coast stuff that i idolized as a young tot doesn't really do it for me as much as it used to anymore (i owne 0 pac, cube, snoop, or even any bone cds- i know i'ma disgrace to cleveland)

I switched up 1 song. Added Poor Young Dave (featuring Snoop) from The Chronic sessions and removed Eat A Dick (from the Doggystyle sessions). Enjoy...

Not even top 15. When you factor in dre and snoop bein so basic lyrically, childish negative subject matter, the weed gimmick and the over use of parlament samples its not fucking with the real top 10 contenders.

In god we trust
Mecca And the soul brother

I would put these 15 albums (all released before the chronic-Dec '92) over the chronic:

mecca and the soul brother
runaway slave
low end theory
peoples instinctive...
stunts blunts and hip hop
sex and violence
return of the funky man
funk ya head up
a future wihtout a past
fruits of nature
3 feet high and rising
fear of a black planet
it takes a nation
the cactus album
daily operation

not even including eric b and rakims albums or epmd etc etc.

and then you know theres a bunch from '93-'96 better than the chronic too.

the chronic is really dope and not a bad pick for a top 10. just not a great pick.

^sounding so defensive and agitated nws- i know you worship dre, blow popular west coast artists and are from the west and have a west coast bias.

anyone that dosnt think at least 5 of those 15 albums i listed above is better than the chronic is suspect and misled.

and as far as "impact"- dre said the low end theory inspired him. fear of a black planet and nation of millions had a bigger impact on real rap. as far as impact YOUR probably refering to popularity-impact on pop culture, the music industry and society as a whole though which is not relevant. its really about what broke ground in rap and/or was really dope and inspired other real rap artists to make dope shit not how many soccer moms and casual/minimal rap listeners love the chronic.

Q-Tip has stated that NWA’s 1988 release Straight Outta Compton was a direct influence on A Tribe Called Quest’s 1991 album The Low End Theory.

Q-Tip spoke to Rude Jude and Lord Sear about the nature of his drawing inspiration from Dre for The Low End Theory. “Everybody deals with shit in a competitive way. But not in like an egregious way, how shit looks a little bit today,” explained Tip. “But more like one-upsmanship in the music. Tryin’ to stay fresh…just keeping your eye on that dude. And for me, personally, when I went in, that dude was Dre.”
“The group was NWA, and to me, that was the benchmark. And of course I was listening to everything else around…”
“The bar was set very high,” continued the ATCQ member. “Musically, my main thing was Dre. That was like, trying to make something he would like and appreciate in a way. Musically.”

Yo rolo you weren't fucking with the documentary? I thought it was amazing. Just out of curiosity what do you feel was made up? I mean they had damn near every artist/group these two came into contact with interview on the documentary. So curious to hear what you feel was embellished.

I view The Chronic and 36 Chambers in the same way. Both are Top 10 of all time albums not just for the music on them but the everlasting impact they had on the genre. With that being said today id rather listen to their follow ups (Chronic 2001 and Wu Forever) over their debuts. Not that the OG's sound dated but the follow ups just sound fresher. Maybe cause i also played to death the OG's in the 90's.

lol.

i talked about it in length in an old thread, but, although i like stunts blunts and hip hop, i think it's an overrated album, mostly because of how bad of a rapper diamond d is, and because of some truly terrible songs on it, imo. the track with lord jamar and sadat x, for example, is just the worst to me. that beat is so boring, and forces them to take on awkward flows. there are a lot of tracks on stunts that i fucking love, but then there's some real meh tracks, and i can't front to myself and act like those tracks don't bring the album down a bit.

the leaders of the new school albums are also highly questionable. i mean, they got some nice tracks on them, but come on.

and the first tribe album. i mean, my main complaint for all these albums i'm naming is that they're good albums with a few bad tracks that bring them down. the first tribe has incredible, classic songs on it, but there are also some throwaway tracks, imo.
