Aesop Rock would be at the top of the list, followed by GZA.

Check this page here, it ranks the number of unique words artists used during their first 35,000 lyrics.

Cunninlynguists and Killah Priest are near the top of that chart too. Priest would be even higher up if they took his past few albums into account too.

But what are you looking for really- Big vocabularies like the chart shows? Most complex verbiage/rhyme structure? An MC that spits a lot of knowledge or sticks to a topic? Most poetic? Maybe that can help narrow down peep's suggestions.

Aesop Rock is so complex you usually have no idea what he's talking about.

Oh, hey check it out- the original study added 40 more MCs in this link, it also includes Sage Francis, Immortal Technique, Action Bronson, and JMT for some reason.

https://www.popchartlab.com/products/the-hip-hop-flow-chart

This was linked on the same page as above right under the original.

Whoever came up with that study should release some software so we can run other comparisons.

Aesop to me is old school...i've been following him since Music For Earthworms. I never thought he would ever get recognition, but i"m very happy he did.

Homeboy Sandman
Open Mike Eagle
Jon Wayne
Ocean Wisdom
Jam Baxter

those are the dudes i'm feeling lyrically right now...who else?

well aesop is a veteran at this point but you asked who the best lyricists are right now, and that's still aes lol.

you seem to appreciate the same type of lyricism i do, so you should definitely check out the rest of the artists i listed. there's bound to be a few on there that you'd dig.

I'm going to nominate Beast1333, dude can flow, and speaks on all types of shit and he would be in the vein of Canibus, Chino XL, Killah Priest, Immortal Technique.

I like all them guys lyrically, but I also like half the guys on Tippy's list as well, including Aes Rock.

The other half of the guys on Tippy's list I haven't heard of- thanks Tippy, I got even more to look into now!

Thanks for the dictionary definition, but what the original poster is asking for may be subjective to himself, I don't know if he's asking for the technical definition of lyricism, that's why i wanted a clarification.

Anybody who's doing hip hop for the love has to be, "expressing the writer's emotions in an imaginative and beautiful way", otherwise they're just bullshitting and would be on MTV (if MTV still had music videos, nevamind).

So, I guess by definition, all mentioned MCs still qualify.

lol observe- lyrical means something different in rap compared to literature. lyrical in rap means rhyming with 1 or more of these: good vocab, wordplay, multis etc. technical for sure.

now:

killer ben

mach hommy
Hus

Roc Marciano
Crooked I
Cassidy

I'm not a fan of big complex vocab and content. I'd rather an emcee who more simpler language but have good imagery and quotables. That to me is way more lyrical then abstract rap.

Clock you need to clip that beast 1333 thread. All these new posters on this site are from a few years ago where they were making accounts about that netcee with the Ferrari poster in his room. Theyre nothing but spammers
