Westside Gunn - Flygod

Flygod is like if Willie Wonka pumped cocaine out of his factory instead of chocolate.

Every track is a banger and Wes goes nuts like it's the last chance he's ever gonna get to spit these bars. Guess spots are insanely dope: Y.O.D. drops one of his best verses of all time, Mayhem Laurenovich bodies Over Gold off the rip and Benny kills his shit on Shower Shoe Lords. Mad people hate on the god but the truth is...ain't nobody as fresh as WSG and the whole Griselda camp. Second this was over heads knew it was a classic.

Aye yo, Buscemis with the cages
Camo Valentino off the runway on the corner serving work like a baker
Fiends fallin' out the sky for it
My pack's ten a piece, shot his baby mom's house he thought shit was sweet
Whole team rocking Hender Schemes and McQueen
My n*gga got a fresh 15 at McKean, bodies dropping on the regular
My town ain't shit
Get money, get killed, n*ggas scared to get rich
Look like somebody wrote all over the raps and the drips White bitch out the Six, suckin' dicks speakin' French
That's life for me
I got too many shooters that'll come take a fuck n*gga whole life for free
These not Timbs little n*gga, these Balmains, please get it right for me
Aye yo, they got the Flygod hangin' off the cross, rockin' Hugo Boss
Techs with air holes yo, he had to cool them off
Style on Forbes, I'm talkin' XXL
Told pussy I need a skirt, I sent 10 in the mail
Break it down, we all bag, weigh the eights with a hand scale
Grams sell like clockwork, the shootin' was Mach's work
Make sure he knock first, we dealin' for Fox worth
Hopped out the GL Benz, OVO X's
Wang windbreaker with no wind
Fresh out that cell I got a brick and a mac
Maybach back-to-back, wrist need to relax
Been whippin' all night fingers swelling like crack
Yo, what's your name, hun? My name West, what's your digits?
In '98 I wore two Cubans up in Britain, I'm a legend
Let me talk fly for a second
I had you lookin' taller in Guiseppes.............

Yeah OK.

Tippi you listen to 1,500 albums a month. How can you even begin to hold a conversation about an albums overall worth? You wouldn't know a great album is in your ears because you're too busy listening to the other 1,499 albums that YOU REALLY NEED TO LISTEN TO RIGHT NOW!!!

5th point - follow my threads. THe albums that im calling modern day classics are exactly that. You can't listen to an album 5 times and know that it's gonna be in rotation for YEARS? Albums like Illmatic, OBCL...first time i heard em i knew i was gonna be fuckin with them for a loooong time. Same thing with Born Like This and Flygod. These albums are jewels. Get off that old "a classic gotta be 25 years old" shit. Back in 94-96, classics were being dropped every week.

don't be such a baby lol, jesus christ. 1,500 albums a year? talk about hyperbole. and it doesn't matter what the fucking album is, calling it a classic after one year is a stretch - period. the fact that i don't like westside gunn or his stupid gun adlibs at all is irrelevant to the point i'm making. it doesn't matter if a new album comes out that i listen to daily for a month, i'm not going to call it a classic just became i really liked it when i first heard it.

While it was my AOTY last year, it's way too early call anything a classic. Classic means it stood the test of time. I've listened to it three times this year. So in 10 months I've bumped my AOTY three fucking times lulz. Most of the albums the last 5 or 6 years, except for Reloaded and maybe a couple others, are disposable in the long run.

I will say this was the perfect combination of all star producers, guest spots all hitting their mark, and WSG not overdoing it as an emcee. What i mean is he rarely had any solo joints and the ones he did were of the shorter variety. Just hearing mostly him for 60 minutes would give me a headache.

Tippi im sorry but you don't really listen to music. You skim through alot of shit and act like you heard it first.

Like I said in that one thread...I can't even name 10 albums that came out in 2017. When I find an album that I really like, it gets played in my truck, in my house, in my shower, in my living room, everybody at work hears it. That shit gets PLAYED. I can't fuck with another album because THIS album is currently the shit.

I takes my time with an album I'm feelin'.

But anyway....tell me your top 250 albums this year....best to worst.

It d0n't matter how you feel about WSG at the moment...

Fact OF the matter is he dropped a classic with Flygod

Hate him all you want but you still gotta deal with the cold hard facts.

I don't like Kanye but I'm not gonna stand around and argue that College Dropout ain't a classic. you guys even Listen to hip hop Music?

come the fuck on man, don't make such stupid assumptions. i listen to a lot of music, but there are a ton of albums that stick with me. every single album in my top 15 this year i've listened to at least a dozen times. i listen to a lot of different music, but i also spend a lot of time listening to music. i'll listen to an album that i'm feeling every single day, but i'll also listen to other stuff as well. there's been albums this year where i've basically typed up entire reviews on and broken down, ask anyone on here that pays attention. they'll tell you you're talking out of your ass right now.

there are no cold hard facts when it comes to evaluating music, its subjective, like all art. unless you are talking about sales numbers, which everyone knows is not a barometer for quality by any stretch. i think you might be a fucking retard.

You got a top 15.

You go girl!

I'm just saying there's alot of great albums out there that deserve more time.

My advice? Find an album that hits h0me and don't play nothing else for a week. I did that with Aesop Rock's Impossible Kid. I'm thankful for it.

No dis... I was a little hip hop junkie like you are...

i didnt referance when the album came out...i simply dont considerate it classic even compared to all the albums that came out in the last few years, honestly listened to it once and wasnt even feeling it. how could you compare it to illmatic or ob4cl when hes biting those styles they pioneered. hence my statement

Find an album that hits h0me and don't play nothing else for a week. I

thanks for the advice, but i already do that.. all the time lol. who told you to think, dopp hopp, known unknowns, damn, mansion 38, rap album two, c v p ii d, being you is great... i did that with all of them, and then after that i continued to listen to them regularly. you're just making baseless accusations here, theres been many different threads on here where i talk about how important cohesive, memorable albums are and how much the album experience means to me, and many thread where i've gone into detail and discussed new albums i really enjoyed but i guess you never saw any of that.

Flygod is a Fall/Winter album. I'm annoyed it came out in the spring. Maybe ill give it another bump tomorrow. Actually nah since WSG signed to Shady he took all his discog off Spotify. Nevermind.

^Beat of the year last year. That's a track for when you're wearing a hoodie or one of them bulky 90's starter coats with a half of foot of snow falling. Not for 70 degrees and humid with a light drizzle.

anyways....

back to the undisputed hip hop classic we all recognize as flygod.

How dope is it that two brothers living in the hell that is Buffalo NY get signed after one gets shot in the face and the other one has to pull his boots up and rap to run the business?

Ironically Flygod was the last time WSG dropped anything above average. In fact his emceeing went from decent to gun noises, sound effects, and repeating the same words with a beat playing in the background. He said he's dropping HWH5 soon. This Halloween will be the 4 or 5 year anniversary of the first one.

You don't think a certain album sounds better if you're in a specific mood , time of year, etc? You're a 'special' kind of listener then i guess. Cause yea hearing Kendrick sing his heart out all off key then transitioning into a track where he's spitting double time over a hard beat is something everyone should be able to tolerate at any time. Cocaine Beach takes a huge dump all over Damn.

I mean 10 months in and you listening to 10 albums really qualifies you as the voice of reason when it comes to dope albums this year lulz. It's almost like you bump them so much you force yourself to like them. Then have to justify that stupid method by calling them the best albums of the year.

I really don't get too pinned downed or pigeoned holed into one type of wave where I can't like something cuz it doesn't fit the "underground" model.

Tippi..take your time and listen to music for once. Just skimming over an album and saying you heard it so that you can move on to the next album is really corny. lol

first look at what you said "fly god is a classic" did you really expect everyone to agree?

if its a personal classic to you, fine, make your points but why attack everyone who doesnt share your opinion?

man, do you have an extra chromosome or something? i don't understand your end game here, seriously. i don't "skim through albums", as i've stated multiple times. i listen to them, then i listen to them again, and if i like them enough, i'll listen to them more. you're just assblasted just because i said it was ridiculous to call an album a classic that came out a year ago, so you proceeded to get defensive insult me.. and then when i shoot down every point you try to make, you tell me to shut the fuck up. you act like you have some type of insight over me or that your opinion is fact and is all that matters, do you understand that art is subjective? you're free to agree or disagree, but it's still just your opinion. you think your opinion on whether or not an album is good holds more weight than mine because you listen to less music, think about that for a second. the reason i listen to so much music is BECAUSE i want to find those albums that i want to listen to over and over again, and guess what? that's exactly what happens.

jesus christ you really must be retarded, you complete disregard everything i say to refute your arguments. let me break this down for you

the average album length is 45 minutes

let's say i listen to 4 albums a day, so that would be 3 hours. 4 x 7 = 28 albums a week

28 x 52 weeks in a year = 1456

let's say 500 of those listens are albums from previous years, that still leaves about 1000 albums. let's say there are 25 albums i listen to 15 times, that's 500. that still leaves 500 albums for me to check out. it's not that fucking difficult lol, or do you not understand simple math? if you can't even name 10 albums that came out this year, that's on you. don't try and tell other people how passionate they are about music or how well they're able to appreciate the albums they listen to, it makes you sound like a dumbass.
