Anyone listen to their shit...? Would you consider it Hip Hop...?

They've been working with DJ Muggs and Hi Tek for the last few years and they produced the majority of their last album (under aliases)

On the recent episode of B-Real's smokebox with DJ Muggs, Muggs played a snippet of a new Cypress Hill joint, but it looks like he's used the beat for Die Antwoord instead because it's this track here...

Beat is dope as fuck, sounds like something that could have been on Black Sunday!!

Has anyone checked out Die Antwoord...? I haven't really checked anything yet, I DL'd the projects that Muggs got beats on but haven't had chance to listen yet other than the track above.

I've never checked them out, other than the track I posted above.

I'm asking just on the strength that they're working with Muggs and Hi Tek.

never cared for the die antwoord stuff but i enjoy some of the other music watkin tudor jones (aka ninja) has put out in the past. if you watch some of the older interviews he was actually well spoken and came across as pretty intelligent at one point in time, but then he lost his fucking mind. before die antwoord he had a few projects under different names, like constructus coorporation and max normal. that stuff was pretty abstract/experimental rap but it was nowhere near what die antwoord is, and i don't think any of those other projects lasted nearly as long. die antwoord started out as performance art but people speculate that watkin tudor jones played that "ninja" character for so long, that it eventually merged with his regular personality and this is just how he is now.

don't care for any of the die antwoord stuff but i dig the album he put out as part of the group constructus coorporation though which came out in 2002, the ziggurat.

Props for the info tippi.

I'm checking their latest album now, the Muggs beats are mostly trash other than the one I posted above, more along the lines of the bass/dub shit that Muggs was fucking with for a while.

i always found it kind of fascinating honestly, the theory that they worked to hard to maintain that image and not break character and they eventually became their personas. people say there is no watkin tudor jones anymore, ninja is just who he is. i can't confirm that for sure, but if they really are still acting they're doing a hell of a job since you'll never see them break character. if you back and watch some old interviews from the max normal days or even the beginning of die antwoord, it's like a completely different person. i did some research on all of this one night years ago because it was so crazy to me, don't remember a lot of the finer details though.

So you're basically agreeing with me that he is a gimmick because he changed his character
