Hardly an original topic, but as some as you know I've sort of tuned out of hip hop since 2010 for various reasons. Some of it is technology, some of it me progressing as an adult with career and life, and some of it is just pure disinterest. I was born in 1982, and a lot of the hip hop artists I grew up on have either retired or fallen off. I am going to have some free time in the coming months (I quit my job yesterday) and in between traveling and looking for my next opportunity I will be chilling listening to music and doing other shit around the house. I've always relied on this board for recommendations so please go ahead and list some of your favorites.

I tend to favor dark, gritty, raw hip hop, although I enjoy all types of hip hop as long as the beats are dope and original. Cocaine Beach and Medellin are two albums from this year that I have thoroughly enjoyed for example.

Not really fitting your description but those are really good and I always enjoy revisiting

Full Circle - Infinite Edges
Jermiside & Danny Diggs - Middle Classic
Juju Rogers - From the Life of a Good ;For ;Nothing
Koncept - Awaken
The Nextmen - Amongst the madness

Is it too personal to ask why did you quit?

Word NWS. I can't say I love that album but it does have some really good tracks. Doin' It Again is one of my favorite Roots tracks ever.

Nice thank Phatbeets, I haven't heard any of those. I quit simply because I am over my job. I've been here 7 years and want to try something new. My last day is on 1/5/18. After that I'm going to take some time and travel, visit my fam in Switzerland, drive around the USA and see some old friends. Then find the next job. Thinking about going back to school and getting a MA in journalism, just one idea.

I feel like I've heard pretty much all the good shit. Of course albums like Reloaded, The City Under the City, The Living Daylights, Trophies, Well-Done, Russian Roulette, etc. would be named. I guess I'm better off doing a forum search cuz all the obvious albums would be listed. I just bought this album cuz I always see people mention it, hopefully it's dope.

Gonna listen to that Willie the Kid- Deutsche Marks right now on YouTube.

word man. glad to see you're finally doin what you wanna do and quit that job...I know you had been talking about it for a minute.

here are some albums since 2010 I thought were dope that you may not have heard...

estee nack - 14 forms
illah dayz - the illahstrator (entire album prod. by bronze)
myka 9 and factor - famous future time travel
oddisee - people hear what they see
Aesop rock - the impossible kid / skelethon

that azaia is cool....ran out of gas for me and lacked a bit of replay, but most of the beats hit pretty hard.

Thanks tippi, that's a good list to reference. Hmmm what else, probably most things Alchemist related. Covert Coup, Stepbrothers, Gangrene shit. I also liked Flygod a lot. Black Milk is phenomenal, If There's a Hell Below would be one. And I think you or 88 posted about Dirty Art Club the other day. Heavy Starch is one of the best instrumental albums ever to me, I think that was 2010ish. I don't mind experimental avant garde shit as long as there is a semblance of melody and rhythm and it sound dope of course. I had Spotify earlier this year but somehow never really went back to it. Streaming music though YouTube and Bandcamp is my preferred method, other than owning a physical of course.

Thanks weather. Ah word Estee Nack I recall wanting to cop that album. I really like that one album I'm drawing a blank on the title but the group he is in. That's probably one of my faves since 2010 as well.

it's hard to think of shit you haven't heard because we like pretty much all the same stuff. haha.

estee is in tragic allies...thery had an album with tragedy that is a must listen. other than that it's mostly mixtapes and solo ventures from their members. code nine (one of their members) had a really dope album from last year to check out.

Anything by Sadistik.

He may not be the best rapper, but he's one of the most consistent, and made a modern classic with Ultraviolet.

imo, mindmaze is their best project. they have a number of albums now with rappers, but they typically work with rappers that don't deserve their beats, unfortunately, so i prefer to get their instrumentals instead.
