im almost done and i think the exact opposite no mask, damn im surprised. this is wat ive been sayin. his music should be instrumental, especially his new style. this is dope as fuck. just like israeli salad and retarded alligator beats. him doing instros hes up ther for me but wen rappers rap on his shit like 85 to 90 percent of the time it makes me hate his beats. literally only 2 beats on here i could picture a dude like conway or gunn on and the rest have no buisness having an mc on board.

Not a big instrumental fan but this release is pretty fucking solid. La Derniere Course is my favorite track. To me even if they're simple loops, being able to transition one track into the next and so on where you don't even know it's the next track is either something you have or don't have. Alchemist is DAFFY at shit like that.

Ughh "fans" complaining about loops??

Thats some oxymoron shit.

...and also, i doubt some of yalls ear. Bet u couldnt tell if something is looped or not. Shit might sound looped but infact is cut and vice versa. And ALC is talented enuff to pull either of on purpose

^Agreed 100% Clock. Alchemist is one of the GOAT's no doubt, but I still only like about half of his music. *shrugs*

Don't gotta like all of his music to be able to recognize the greatness...

Listening to this is like listening to the rambling of a drunk / confused admiral crumple..
shit goes in every direction to the point that its pretty much unlistenable

There are 3 or 4 other instrumental threads on page one that 100x better

Maybe on shrooms that shit would be alright I dunno

This is more of a smoked out hypnotic type instrumental record than boom bap beats. I don't like it that much but I can see how some could like it. In the right mind state and mood I could enjoy it, not really right now sitting waiting for football to start.

And honestly 95% of hip hop beats have loops.

This is pretty dope.

Israeli Salad is my favorite of the themed instrumental series' that he has done so far.

I don't know if it's clear or not, but a lot of these aren't meant to be rapped over. The Israeli Salad batch had the hardest drums, and more chops, and it made sense that a handful of those beats ended up going to rappers like Sean Price, Prodigy, Currensy, etc.

I can hear maybe 2 joints on here that would work with raps over them.

Whether or not you fuck with Al's more recent music or not, one thing I definitely respect is that the dude has been in the game for like 20 years now and is making music that he enjoys, and is evolving his sound.

If people think he's strayed too far away from bangers...I guess they're more few and far between now. Some of it s what rappers choose from him as well. Some of Al's frequent collaborators want these drumless loops, and so that's what they pick.

Check the Evidence album that drops next month. The Alchemist beats on there are bangers. A big reason is because Evidence is a dope beat picker and doesn't choose the same type of beats as an Action Bronson, Roc Marci, Conway, or Westside Gunn.

The Boldy James and Alchemist project had hard beats on the whole project. Because that's the kind of beats that Boldy wanted. Al is still making hard joints, but the "drumless" sound is very popular right now.

Co-sign Grafh, I came in here to say that this is similar to the themed project Madlib has put out. And not very far off from thinkgs ALC has done in the past like Retarded Alligator beats. I also thought that maybe 2 of these are ones that anyone would really choose to rap on: Rock Spatial and Si J'etais Le Maitre Du Monde. Maybe La Derniere Course too. It's a pretty solid listen, would just have to be in the mood to spin it.

yeah, part 2 is definitely more along the lines of ALC's signature sound. Both are pretty dope to me for different reasons. But this is more of what you'd expect to hear people actually rap on. I could hear Currency on a couple of these.

Part 2 is really dope. Just listened three times in a row. Beats are chopped into different rhythms and melodies, the first once just rolled. Reminds me of a bit of Israeli Salad.

One distinction of being good producer is being able to dig for obscure records. People like Alchemist and Madlib make a point of exploring different countries and cultures to find music and create some original dope shit.

Just finished volume two and man those beats and chops are beautiful. His transitions from track to track are hella buttery. One of the best at it. If you're not paying attention, you don't even realize the next track started and so on and so forth.

ClockWorx when you say, "If you're not paying attention, you don't even realize the next track started and so on and so forth."

That's spot on and that's what he's aiming for with these instrumental projects. He's said that he considers an album at this point to be one giant song, and each track is a different piece of the song.
