yo no mask, i don't want to fuck up that year end thread more than it already is so i'll just continue that discussion in here.

your list was solid, two of those albums i haven't heard but only 4 of the others would be in my top 20 for 2016.

that's a solid list no mask.

only 4 of those would be in my top 20 for 2016 though

aesop rock - the impossible kid
ka - honor killed the samurai
open mike eagle - hella personal film festival
elucid - save yourself
willie green - doc savage
jalal salaam & ewonee - past lives
kemba - negus
ivan ave & mndsgn - helping hands
run the jewels - RTJ3
onry ozzborn - duo
de la soul - and the anonymous nobody
zeroh - tinnitus
war church - gunship diplomacy
code nine & purpose - below sumerian skies
dillon & paten locke - food chain
danny brown - atrocity exhibition
a tribe called quest - we got it from here
j-zone - fish n grits
ed scissortongue & lamplighter - tell them its winter

i know you probably weren't feeling some of those as much though because they're more left field/experimental or softer than you like.

^ yeah, going all off topic in the AOTY thread might be a dick thing to do. someone already deleted a comment i made about who was in the lead.

i like most of those (never heard the war church i dont think)and need to re check some like impossible kid -i feel like that one should be in my top 10.

yeah i went to reply and noticed we had completely derailed the entire thread and were just naming albums from other years lol. war church is skech185 (of tomorrow kings) & analogue tape despenser. i think you said you hear skech185 before, but i'm not sure if youll like this project

^ i love this track

i guess i should respond to the question you're asking in this thread though lol. there would probably be my top 5 albums from each of those years

2011

the doppelgangaz - lone sharks
shabazz palaces - black up
has-lo - in case i don't make it
cunninlynguists - oneironlogy
flash bang grenada - 10 haters

2010

super chron flight brothers - cape verde
the roots - how i got over
shinsight trio - somewhere beyond the moon
homeboy sandman - the good sun
moka only & factor - saffron

2009

eyedea & abilities - by the throat
fashawn - boy meets world
DOOM - born like this
mos def - the ecstatic
p.o.s - never better

2008

dela - changes of atmosphere
triple darkness - anathema
elzhi - the preface
CYNE - pretty dark things
prolyphic & reanimator - the ugly truth

(one of the weakest years in hip hop imo)

2007

el-p - i'll sleep when you're dead
blu & exile - below the heavens
y society - travel at your own pace
shad - the old prince
super chron flight brothers - emergency powers

^a few of those i havent heard and many i should revisit. glad i made this thread and i made it cause 2012-present always gets covered pretty well on here but pre '12 not at all really so i just made it a 5 year pre '12 period. i wasnt paying a lot of attention in those years either.

q-tip's renaissance won aoty here in 08. greg h valentine ran the vote that year. i think it was the only year he did it. i enjoyed the vote a lot, and was disappointed he didn't run it the next year. by 2012, i had to take the reigns and make it happen again.

I'd be curious to see how a revote of past years would go, like which albums have endured the test of time. Who's down to start a voting process starting with 2007?

really? i found out about billy woods through the stuff he was doing with vordul in the early-mid 2000s. def jux was a major starting point for me when i was first really getting into more left-field underground shit, so i'm probably familiar with most of the artists associated with that label. cape verde is one of my favorite albums of this decade, but eseph prefers emergency powers. which do you think is better?

man am i the only one that thinks the last 6 or 7 years have all been pretty damn good? some weren't as great as others but i'd never say 2015 or 2017 were bad, there's always dozens of projects that i really enjoy and continue to revisit in the following years.

2012 and 2013 are my favorite years from this decade too, there are so many albums from those two years that stay in rotation. i never really see people bring up 2013 that often though.
