all great. well actually asap was coo then his appeal wore off. at least two cuts that i really dig on there, tho! one train was the JAM!

the droog i didnt like at first, but glad i gave it more chances before lumping him in with dopple and epidemiks. kinison and packs really helped make me a believer. and his appearance on the falling season (ace) and cruise control (skizz) as well.

you described the dilla album perfectly, it was a special album. like most rappers, i have a whole album written to it and recorded the most shitty demo to it, but never got it "officially recorded properly" and prob won't. my unreleased album to madlib's beat konducta vol 5-6 tribute to dilla is even better anyways.

i wish droog would re-release the nicest with fixed audio. that shit had good tracks on it, but they were ruined by the sound quality.

i wish he'd go back to jacking doom's style. to this day, i listen to my best of volume 7 and 8 comp on a regular basis.

also, i think the nothing quit. he's been quiet for two years now. i think he's just out of the game. it's a shame. i listen to him on a regular basis, still.

The ironic part about Droog is he suffers from the same affliction that naysayers say Nas has, which is shitty beat syndrome. Droog one of the most talented newer lyricists but it'd be nice to hear him drop an album with quality beats for once.

Bumped this earlier...

Love this comp. I remember listening to this while smoking a joint on the way to my first day of junior year in high school. 1998 was the pinnacle of Wu Fam releases. Nothing but heat. Nice blend of Wu Fam and OG Clan members on tracks like S.O.S., Execute Them, and And Justice For All. 97 Mentality and Cobra Clutch are classic Wu solo joints. Violin on Concrete Jungle is dope and Timbo rips it. Other stand outs were Punishment, Co-Defendant, and the yamaka anthem Never Again.

I liked that Droog album a lot when I first heard it, but it has lost a lot of its power. Agree the production is kinda weak. Free Turkey and Loosey in the Store With Pennies are fantastic though.

Vibes and Stuff, one of the best warm weather songs.

clock - i was big into afi when i was younger, the art of drowning was one of the first cds i ever bought. sing the sorrow is really when they started to fall off though imo, and everything after that album was pretty bad. you listen to any of their earlier work, like black sails or shut your mouth and open your eyes?

5th point - i just finished listening to that album and the first word that comes to mind when i think of that listening experience is "annoying". it's not even just that i don't like the actual music, he's just trying to hard to be funny and none it is hitting for me. there were multiple points during the album where i groaned and had to pause it. it's just unbearably corny to me, no offense to anyone that likes it.

Nah i never really checked out their 90's shit although I've read it's a lot more hardcore punk and less pop, rock, etc. Which do you recommend? The Art Of Drowning and Sing the Sorrow are both dope as fuck. The only other album of theirs I've peeped is Decemberunderground which has a couple bangers, especially Prelude 12/21 but is inconsistent. I know they dropped an album last year but it got mixed reviews.

their best albums imo are

shut your mouth and open your eyes
black sails in the sunset
the art of drowning

you don't really need anything else aside from that, the two before that were pretty much straight up punk and not that interesting. i'm not even shitting on sing the sorrow because that album definitely has it's moments, but it definitely showed what direction they would be going in with future releases and i kind of blame that on the success of sing the sorrow which honestly caused me to like it less. the album from last year though, burials, is easily the best thing theyve put out since sing the sorrow. could even serve as a follow up to that album, but even then it was still pretty underwhelming since it didn't have that same edge that the earlier stuff had.

Good looks. Yea Sing The Sorrow was definitely a turn in a more mainstream direction. Wasn't that their first major label release too? If so it'd make sense as the direction turn. Been bumping The Art Of Drowning since i last posted itt and so many more punk elements then the two albums that followed. Good to hear about last years album. Ill check it out this week just based off what you typed about it.

In regards to Decemberunderground, this one of my favorite openers of all time...

yeah, sing the sorrow was the first album after they signed to dreamworks. their previous albums before that were on nitro. so it does make sense that their music lost it's edge a bit, since dreamworks also put out albums by papa roach, all american rejects, jimmy eat world, alien ant farm, and rise against lol.

listening that all hallows ep i mentioned earlier, and all four of the tracks on here are great
