In what was the first album to top the 100 point plateau and to no one's surprise, Madvillainy ran away with with the 2004 AOTY. This is an underground Mt. Rushmore type of album for me. Personal classic.

Thanks again to everybody that voted. The last and final year of the 00's is up next, 2000. Nomination thread goes up Thursday morning.

Here's the Top 10 from the final round...

Madvillain - Madvillainy – 106
Masta Ace - A Long Hot Summer – 78
MF DOOM – Mm...Food – 52
Kanye West- College Dropout – 40
Murs & 9th Wonder - Murs 3:16 The 9th Edition – 35
The UN - UN Or U Out – 28
Ghostface - The Pretty Toney Album – 28
Q-Unique - Vengeance Is Mine – 27
Jedi Mind Tricks - Legacy of Blood – 24
Ill Bill - What's Wrong With Bill? - 22

i think this is the only year we've done so far where i knew exactly what album would win before the rounds even started.

this has gotta be one of the most recognizable and critically acclaimed underground hip hop albums of all time, and it's a classic to me as well. great production, quotables for days... and infinite replay value. if i try to name my favorite tracks i'd end up listing half the album. definite deserving of the win.

Great top six. Madvillainy is an incredible album, and it's not even my favorite one from Madlib or MF Doom

A couple of years ago I've had to let go of all hope that its sequel album will ever see the light of day, even though Madlib has reportedly given all of the instrumentals to Doom already, and the leaks that we have heard are really good. I'd trade a billion Detox leaks or MED collaborations for one more Madvillain album

^ I think what ollie is trying to say is that Late Registration is the superior Kanye album, and I am inclined to agree.

Frankly I might have even liked Graduation the most of all his albums. It was the end of Kanye as a traditional hip hop artist and the beginning of his journey into pop wrap. I really liked how the two styles converged on Graduation, creating a rap style that works on the pop stations but doesnt stray too far onto pop territory. Everything after that seemed way too trite for my taste

I agree, Graduation was probably my favorite of his.

^^Thanks for re-igniting the Kanye West convo, making him the most discussed artist in this thread, despite not winning.

A while ago I said heads be "too underground for their own good" and people got real defensive... this is the type of shit I meant. I'm sure folks will get defensive again. I prefer the Good vs. Bad discussion to the Underground vs. Mainstream.. Kanye has about 3.5 Good albums and the rest is pretty fucking horrendously Bad.

i hated graduation. late registration is pretty perfect and i think i hate kanye more than ollie does. it def is a good vs bad thing but they u open the can of words of being bias vs being objective. and its impossible given all the mental illness on this site.

any track kanye pest has EVER laid down his own vocals is certified ass cheeks. thats fact not opinion i have no prob with anyone liking his beat machine in fact you can buff his beat machine knobs but as far his voice? wack, flow? wack, style? wack, image? wack, lyrics ? wack, hius writing ? wack.. overall that makes him wack and not an emcee and not hip hop

i dont apologize for eminem. cuz at one point i was clock level fan. i didnt even look at 8 mile as wack or a sellout. i loved it but after that movie was made his rapping career was over. i also dont give a think the benzino or ja rule disses are good. he roasted everlast, ill give him that but it might be a diff story today since everlast is actively rapping now. but for real for real eminem hasnt been shit for 15 yrs now.
