Inspired by the backlash Alfredo gets when he shits on Ka or Milano, I'm asking folks to list a few rappers that have high praise that you yourself just can't get into..

Here are some of mine (off top)

Kool Keith
Brother Ali
Atmosphere
Blueprint
Binary Star
Cannibal Ox
Jurassic 5
Zion I
Billy Woods
Open Mike Eagle
Stoneface
Madchild
Stik Figa

I have respect for all of these dudes. But I could never get into their music outside of random verses here and there.

and this is zero redeeming quality

ka
mac miller
mgk
macklemore
kanye (after late registration)
eminem (after 8 mile movie)
currensy
lauryn hill and the fugees
capone n nore
mc serch
the clipse

other than obvious shit like spoon fed mass produced shit like migos and cardi b, i will literally give neone a chance and listen to atleast one project before they hit this list. mgk and macklemore are prolly the only 2 mentioned who i heard just 1 song and was done and couldnt go further. ive heard full projects by the rest of my list.

I'll probably get decapitated for listing some of these but here goes...

Redman, Big Pun, Mos Def, Onyx, Immortal Technique, Aesop Rock.

Those come to mind first.

damn lex and gino named 3 of my favorite artists out there right now, lol. ka, billy woods, and mike eagle.

gino i swear you've mentioned more artists than that in the past though, what about chance the rapper or mick jenkins?

there's not really many i can think of that i really have no interest in listening to. some of the obvious ones like lil pump, lil yachty, 6ix 9ine, xxxtentacion.. but also

westside gunn
madchild is definitely one
fahim
eminem period tbh
hopsin
nacho picasso (i used to like his music actually)

i wouldn't say any of these guys have zero redeeming quality though, at least some of them rap on beats i like, but their music just isn't for me at all.

I don't think the guys on my list are complete shit, lol.. there's just something about their sound that I can't get into. I have no desire to hear a complete project from these guys after already trying and not liking what I've heard. I've given most of these artists more of a shot than a lot of other artists I've listened to a a song or 2 from and written off. Crazy thing is, If I was given the opportunity to work with any of these dudes, I would. Like I said in my initial post, I respect them. I just don't dig their respective bodies of work.

yeah but sometimes you take it to another level lol. this thread is a good example, lex asked for artists that we personally don't fuck with, or music we can't get into, and you immediately jumped into talking about artists you hate. i know you said you do this to entertain yourself, but sometimes i cant tell if you're being sincere or hyperbolic to get a reaction out of people.

tippi and 88 i think ud find this interesting. but i thought about this just yesterday. other than wen i was a teen i havent gone this hard with rap music as i have the last 5 yrs. seriously any and everything i peep. in doing this i feel like ive lost my identity of wat are my absolute go to sub genres of rap or even artists. i thought i could put my finger on it as recent as prolly last yr as to wat tickles my fancy more than nething else in rap but i cant. im pretty damn disconnected. its no longer even artists or projects i like its songs and making playlists honestly and it trims down the fat but makes it hard to pin point wat i like best cuz its so all over the place. i think a shining example of this is the fact that the last 5-8 yrs wen compiling my personal top 10 for the yr, even number 1 for me i prolly only like half the album. i understand im fickle and thers quite an overload to spend more than alot of time with one thing but even after listening to prolly close to 10,000 projects the last 20 some yrs i could only compile a top 50 maybe 60 of albums i consider perfect and without flaw. im kinda just bitter and burned out tbh.

i feel similar, gino, in that i'm getting more and more disconnected and disinterested in rap, in general. however, i listen to more instro hip hop than ever, so i'm still really into hip hop, but just not rap. anyway, i feel like my compiling/playlist making helps me realize what i like, instead of the opposite, as you say you feel. everyone's different. it might be that i just alter albums rather than make playlists. like, i'll delete a song i don't like here, add a song from a pre-album mixtape there, etc. it ends up making me listen to (my version of) albums, i'd generally avoid if i left them as they are, because, as they are, i get too annoyed by the filler to listen to it, so i end up missing the good stuff in it. compiling/editing salvages the good stuff, imo. in other words, the action helps me identify what i like, and enjoy it without having to compromise and put up with filler.

but, as time goes on, i feel like more and more rapping is filler than good. iiwii.

i think you've touched on this before a little but it definitely makes sense that you'd be jaded now, especially once you start mainly listening to playlists and cutting out whatever you don't like. the whole concept of an album almost doesn't real mean much. it become about the ratio of good songs to bad songs rather than the album experience. there are times when i feel myself getting burnt out on a particular genre of music, but i take a break and listen to another genre and then by the time i come back my enthusiasm towards that genre has returned. i don't know if you've ever done that or if you have and it didn't work for you, but sometimes you just need to step back and reevalute things, and consider why what sparks your interest in that genre to begin with. i really hope i never get to the point you're at lol. plus, only considering 60 hip hop albums out of 10,000 to be perfect seems pretty normal. i only have 78 five star albums and 216 4.5 star albums on RYM, and that's not all hip hop.

After hearing Inspectah Deck and various guests rip him up for a couple albums straight, I really donít like Esoteric that much. The dudeís bars are just kinda boring. Iím not really a huge fan of his style at all, except for Vinnie Paz, but Apathy and Celph Titled at least are way more clever, and have dope voices

kinda funny 2dolla will cuz inspectah is the one (if anybody) who gets ripped up by the guests and eso kinda carrying the group if you ask me. eso had the best bars on the doom album for sure. but ay thats just my opinion i can fux w eso and them, guess you can't but i really think you need to clean them ears out and try to understand all the punchlines.

eseph, I definitely get his punchlines, I just find his flow and voice corny, and very derivative of Deckís. Heís definitely clever, but heís also boring to listen to. I felt like he was better than Deck on the first album, but on the next two Deck was out-barring him on nearly every track. I still havenít listened to the DOOM album though, Czarface has gotten old to me. And as for the guests, I feel like they pretty much always outshine both Eso and Deck, with the exceptions of Cappadonna and Juju.

Reks and Apathy are the first two that come to mind. Both are jocked and neither do anything for me when i listen to their albums.

Over the past few years there have been various periods where I've gotten bored with the genre and it's actually allowed me to really delve into other genres i wouldn't have previously done.

I used to be UGHH4LYFE in 2013-2015 but i ended up burning myself out. Couldn't even enjoy albums cause i was already having another one on deck. Became exhausting and more of a chore. Plus id only listen to majority of them one time instead of taking few spins to really absorb everything. Been enjoying hip hop a lot more last couple years since i pulled back on trying to listen to every album that drops.
