genre (metal, hip hop, jazz, rock.. not that specfic) -> artist name -> year of release

and then i have a seperate place where i put new records and stuff i plan on listening to in the near future. that's it, nothing crazy.

Just alphabetical. I have the Collectorz app on my phone and use Discogs and an excel spreadsheet at home so having similar organization for all three just works easier for me.

Collectorz is great because the info is stored on your phone not in a linked database. if your out buying music you arenít reliant on an internet connection to double check your collection. Often when digging Iíll be in some booney antique mall or a basement with bad reception and I couldnít use the Discogs app or the internet to make sure Iím not rebuying shit. Iíve got like 3000 Records and 2000 CDís so I definitely brought home some duplicates in the past due to that issue.

Numerical to alphabetical. I include all related artists to the listed letter then carry on to the next letter in line after. So for instance.

Boot camp
then all boot camp artists

then continue with the next B to follow lets say its

buddah monk
then all wu related albums under him
then next to lets say

D.I.t.C
and all ditc artists

By artist and associated artists....seperated by east west coast etc. The east cosst sub divided up for example I got a queens box

Only just sorted it out as it was annoying trying to find certain records it was so mixed up...I made cardboard dividers with artists names on so I can grab them quicker

I rip the CDs to .wav and put the cases w art on the shelf.

The rare items I have like the original purple tape, Octagon on Mo Wax, Pennicilin on Wax - I put them in zip lock bags and in a plastic bin.

Hope they dont melt!

When I had cds, I did by crew and area, so Living Legends, Freestyle Fellowship, Hiero, etc. all in one shelf or column, with their individual artists arranged by year. Similar for my music folders on my hardrive.

On my phone, it's all just artist, but I tag genres by year or by crew sometimes.

Mine were organized with how I associated them in my head when thinking about them. Like my southern shit was on the bottom because it's south, All my Jedi Mind Tricks/AOTP shit was next to Wu-Tang because of how heavily inspired they were by them, Ghostface worked heavily with DOOM so he was next to the Wu, Madlib worked with DOOM so he was after him, Stones throw artist with Madlib, ect ect. Just by association, I guess.

Debating on how I want to do it when I move into this new house though. Toying with the idea of putting them all in order of release and just having like this dope little history and evolution of Hip Hop thing going on.

I sort it out by coasts, like West Coast and NY, than ill sort them out by groups like Wu Tang and all their affiliates, pretty much classify them by label though, than iinstrumental stuff, lots of ill adrenaline, rhymesayers, pretty much keep the stuff I listen to more accessible and easy to grab, just finished with the CCD's, gonna pop a xan and sort out the vinyl
