i don't view any of these recent projects kanye been involved in as albums, and even if i loved every single one of them i wouldn't put them on a top albums of the year list. they're EPs masquerading as albums, i think all 3 so far have been under 25 minutes long.

i never go by running time. its the number of joints for me. so ur tellin me if someone dropped an "album" that was 5 songs but each song was over 8 minutes, that ud consider it an LP? cuz it can run 30 minutes long and have 14 tracks and im filing it under LP. but if its under 9 tracks i dont care how long the run time is, its an EP to me. but at the end of the day i compile my aoty top 10 list with projects not just ep or lp or mixtape, everything.

i don't care that they're shorter projects, new music is new music, i just wish kanye would call them what they are. maybe artists will start putting out 50 minute projects as EPs soon.

yeah i would lol

there are albums in other genres, especially metal and jazz, that are at least 40 minutes in length but only have 4-5 tracks. if you're listening to the album front to back, then you wouldn't even notice the difference anyway. it's not going to feel any shorter just because of the number of tracks. the length of the project and amount of content is what matters to me.

serious question gino, do you consider albums like Coltrane's 'Blue Train' or Mile's 'Bitches Brew' to be ep's? Most great Jazz album don't even crack 7 tracks.

another question, though it's completely hypothetical since i know gino doesn't listen to these genres

there's a lot of punk/grindcore albums that have a ton of tracks but each of them are very shorter, so the total length of the album might only be 20-25 minutes

i'll use "explosions in ward "6 by pig destroyer as an example. 18 tracks, but it's only about 20 minutes long. is that an EP or an album?

it depends on whats filling up the time. the quality of those minutes. if they just let the beat ride for 4 minutes to make it long and nothing added- than thats cheating. if its an 8 minute song with beat change ups etc. and enough effort went into it then 4 or 5 of those type of tracks could constitute and album.

most of fela kuti's albums are only 2 or 4 songs, but they're over an hour long.

The lines are too blurred nowadays to distinguish between an album and an EP. I just go by whatever the artist refers it as.

If you go by number of tracks well there's plenty of albums that have 15 tracks and the total running time is less than 30 minutes. If you go by running time then whats the cut off? 20 minutes? 15 minutes?

While im happy to hear some new Nas, I wish Kanye wasn't doing this stupid 7 track fetish cause id love to hear a 12-14 track Nas album.

Oh no doubt. Sometimes less is better with shit emcees but with Nas, especially after not dropping an album for 6 years, i was hoping for a few more tracks.

yeah, that's fair. however, nas has a bad habit in his latter career of making albums too long, imo, so i'm much more intrigued by seeing him try a short project right now.

I remember when Kanye announced all these albums in-between his Twitter rants supporting Trump i thought he was trolling. Glad he wasn't. While i haven't peeped his album and the Cudi is meh, the Pusha is excellent and i have no doubt this will be too.

graph its so weird in other genres, specifically jazz cuz its an ensemble and everybody has a chance to shine or a solo or something. its just different with rap. its pushin it with jazz wen its like 3 (15 minute songs) but theres more grace given u could say tho. i dunno lol i contradicted myself cuz even tho i dont like these kanye 7 track things, even if they are eps, id still add them to my top 10 cuz i go by project and only exclude instrumentals from my end of the yr list. i just dont like kanye

Life Is Good has grown on me over the years. When it first dropped i thought it was kind of corny but as I've grown out of the 'underground or bust' phase I've come to appreciate and enjoy it a lot more, especially the more introspective tracks. Id throw it in my Top 5 Nas albums.

nas is like common without the intelligence to me. and kanye is just an exhausting cunt at this point and everything is so over the top. at the end of the day hes just some ignorant dude from chicago that married the only skank with a fake ass that has no rhythm and cant dance. hes not a genius and not even moderately smart cuz after seeing kims lack of ne talent in the ray j video he shoulda just stuck with finger in the butt amber rose, atleast she owns being a pig and knows her way around a salami.

Kanye's always been an irritable prag and i can't stand him as an emcee. But a dope beat is a dope beat and although he's been a lot more miss then hit for me last decade, im not going to shit on him if i find the beats dope.

Oh id take Nas over Common in a heartbeat.

Life is good one of the best albums this decade. It baffles me that ppl dont love it. Pretty much all fire except summer smash and dont need the bonus tracks.
Daughters is a classic summer jam.
World is addiction is crazy
Stay
Back when
Cherry wine
Locomotive
Reach out
Even that fat fuck Rick Ross has a decent verse on accident murderers.
Love that album.

Lol w/Rolo saying that's the album cover.

I also believe all these are e.ps.

Great point with the punk reference.

D.R.I also had tonnes of tracks with short albums and I consider those whole albums.

I think 10+ tracks = an album

Illmatic had 10 tracks I believe.

Nas has had a couple of low key bangers over the last couple of years, but none of them were on his album if you ask me, I really didn't like that joint and pretty much never went back to the few tracks that I did kind of like-- they were a bit too personal for me to relate to . These two songs, however, are solid:
