A great album and the first release from what would turn out to be one of the most consistent emcees of all time. Ironman was the last top shelf Wu solo album out of that first wave of solo's until Ghost himself released SC four years later. Whole album is littered with bangers but Assassination Day, Winter Warz, and Box In Hand got the most play from me and my boys when this dropped.
I knew it'd come down to Ghost and Mobb but i wasn't expecting Ghost to lead from start to finish with the voting. While Ironman didn't really pull away until yesterday i never felt as if it was threatened.
Here's the Top 10 from the final round...
Ghostface Killah – Ironman - 100 Mobb Deep - Hell on Earth - 82 Nas - It Was Written - 51 Outkast – ATLiens - 43 Jay-Z - Reasonable Doubt - 41 Redman - Muddy Waters - 36 The Roots - Illadelph Halflife - 33 Heltah Skeltah – Nocturnal - 29 Jeru The Damaja - Wrath Of The Math - 28 Dr. Octagon - Dr. Octagonecologyst - 24
No huge surprises in the Top 10 although I've always thought that Nas album was overrated and while i knew it'd place in the Top 10 i wasn't expecting it to be third.
The next year we're doing is 1994 with the nomination thread going up Thursday morning. Thanks again to everyone that participated.

posted Sunday, September 09, 2018 9:25:10 PM I would've preferred Hell On Earth but the win was justified. Still a great album. To me those two and Outkast are on their own level with Jay-Z and Redman on the next tier.
I don't think 1994 is going to be competitive at all unfortunately. After we complete all the 90's years and pit the winners against each other is going to be a real treat. Even when we did that in the 00's it was obvious SC was going to win. Some of these 90's winners are first ballot classics so not going to be as clear a cut winner.

posted Monday, September 10, 2018 5:20:16 PM the amount of people hating on this album is fuckin hilarious....everyone loves this album until it gets album of the year over some obscure joint or your slept on album that's way too underrated....the only albums that had a chance to me were this or hell on earth...atliens is incredible too but the south never wins anything here.
that's it, that's the top 3. there were tons of other great shit from 96 too...nocturnal, muddy waters, illadelph, etc....but none of those were original or all that interesting....just very straightforward albums that played it way too safe to be better than ironman or hell on earth. both those joints did shit with production that still makes them sound fresh even today.
the loop on assassination day is godly, iron maiden sets the tone for the whole shit with the upbeat pace. one of tru masters best beats (fish) is also one of ghost's best songs. the beat flip on box in hand and the way rza flipped the vocals is just too ill. winter warz, daytona 500, camay, etc....all heat. yeah it's not a true ghost solo lp, more like an extended wu album, but that's kind of what makes it great to be honest. just an excellent record, bottom line....well deserved.

by the time this dropped the first wave of Wu was getting heavy play already, another one wasn't really needed so this for me didn't get heavy rotation, and amongst me and people I knew, it was good but didnt blow us away....plenty of other great records this year so this I guess got overlooked
still to this day I haven't played it much
so I guess I am a hater

posted Tuesday, September 11, 2018 2:50:51 PM i have a recommendation for something you guys could do on the podcast that would either be the most awkward thing in the whole world or the most fun and awesome thing:
we get ughhers to submit a verse on some topic that someone can decide on. all the verses have to be about that topic. and there will be some deadline in some thread to submit. you two will both pick a fav verse each from the bunch. and on the podcast, you each have to spit the verse you chose.
feel free to not go along with this idea, but i think it could be great...
