This ain't fair. O.C., Common, Redman, Outkast and The Roots could have easily been a legit top 5. So could Jeru, Meth, The Beatnuts, Artifacts and Scarface... Digable Planets and Gravediggaz also make a valid case for anyone's top 5. There is no wrong answer here so any answer feel wrong. This seems to be the strongest year we've done thusfar.

at Daddy Alfredo It's actually:

1 - philly album
1 - texas
1 - atlanta
11 - new york
2 - New Jersey
1 - Chicago

I'm not one who doesn't label Gangstarr a NY group but some would even make an argument for them being a Boston/Houston tandem. But yeah, shit's way East heavy.

While it's still early if it doesn't win it'll be one of the bigger upsets here. While it's not my personal favorite album of '94, it's on a lot of fans Mt. Rushmore of hip hop albums so usually the voting on this stuff tends to favor that. What were you hoping would overtake it? I said a month or so ago that Ready To Die was the only album that even stood a chance.

my top 5 for starters haha

i don't know. honestly, i knew it was going to win, but i just feel like there's albums from that year that have stood the test of time better and just contain better music in general. while it's likely the most important album from the year, i just don't feel like it's the best, tbh.
