Any albums or songs produced by Madlib from artists that you wouldnt usually listen to?
I was thinking about Pinata and Stony Jackson by SAS I honestly prob would have never checked out those albums if it werent for Madlib but I noticed I havent checked out anything from these guys since then really. What got me thinking about this was I was listening to this ep he put out a few years back called Trouble Knows Me and it has this dude rappin on it cant remember his name but hes dope but I was like I never would have heard of this dude if Madlib didnt produce this. He has a wide range of stuff he produced its wild like jazz albums and obsuce ass eps and stuff

phil da agony is a genuinely terrible rapper, but madlib brought some of his best beats to that stony jackson album. it's too bad that album was a collabo with strong arm, rather than planet asia or fashawn, because those two sounded amazing on the tracks they were featured on stony jackson.

i never really thought about it before, but i wonder if the reason so many of the best producers (ie madlib, damu, jazz spastiks, etc.) only seem to work with shitty emcees is because it allows them to be in charge of the project when the rapper isn't as popular. they're the main attraction, whereas, if they worked with some big name emcee, they'd maybe have to play second fiddle, or have to cater their beats to that rapper. i mean, MED and strong arm steady would probably rap on any beat madlib gave them, while planet asia might be a little more picky, which would lessen madlib's creative possibilities.

going electro instead of jazzy/soulful on the album with blu was far and away the biggest misstep of madlib's career.

it's like they were afraid of the pressure to give the fans what they wanted or something.

Asia hops on alot of diff sounding beats. We sent him some beats a month ago or so for a new project hes working on. Hopefully he will pick some

88 you ever think that maybe it's not about what the fans want but rather what music the artists want to make?

dilla madlib and doom

yes im aware they popular they been praised for the greatest rappers producers and critics in general but what can i say some of the shit theyve done is not really my cup of tea, dont gente wrong i have nothing but respect for them but i feel bout 50% of what ive heard from each one

Phil the Agony is a guilty pleasure of mine. He is almost so bad that he is genius. His voice and flow are really unique. Leave Phil out of this!
