How often do you feel embarrassed just by looking at the cover of an album?

To me it happens too often with rap albums.
I dislike Pop and EDM but I usually don't feel that way just by looking at the cover of their albums...

not that often

yeah there's been some terrible album covers just like any other genre, but i think in general hip hop album artwork gotten better overall.

i can't even really think of recent hip hop album covers that i thought were truly terrible aside from 6ix9ine's stuff and the west side gune hitler wears hermes projects. do you have anything particular in mind or are you just spitballing here?

tippi I think you are way to benevolent.

I made this post after getting some Westside and Willie the kid recommendations on Spotify.

The amount of covers with rappers smoking big pipes, showing of more guns than US army and with forced mad faces is ridiculous.
It looks like they made those covers to be chosen as the villian of one Rockstar videogame.

To be honest I find it childish. There are more than couple albums that would make me feel embarrassed if someone asked me "what are you listening to?" and I had to reply just pointing them to the album cover

I get that rap music is mainly done by people under 35, but I don't see artists of other genres trying s hard to portray themselves as the hardest man on earth. That just shows to me how immature many of them are

maybe, but i just don't really see covers like those as inherently childish or really see a problem with it the majority of the time. i didn't pick the album art, i didn't create it, so why should i be embarrassed unless it's something truly reprehensible? alright so an artist is holding a gun on the cover, i don't have a problem with that especially if it's indicative of how the music itself is going to sound. plus for every album cover that fits the description you gave, it seems like there are 3 more that aren't like that at all so i don't think it's as big of a deal nowadays.

there's definitely more than a couple of THOSE album covers out there, but i feel the same way about almost every single genre lol. i love metal but some of the album covers are ridiculous and over the top, that's part of the charm idk. i've just learned to find the humor in it. besides, i think a lot of the time judging or completely dismissing an album just for it's artwork is in a way more childish than whatever could possibly be portrayed in the artwork.

maybe i'm just not seeing all the albums with this type of artwork that you're talking about though

i just looked at my list of hip hop releases i've heard this year and out of hundreds of projects only 6 or 7 fall under that umbrella, so idk

thread is called How Stupid And Childish Hiphop Can Be and clearly u listed 6ix9ine and now your telling me because the zionist establishment labels him that way? i call bullshit

doesn't matter what you or i would call it?

i call bullshit again what doesnt matter is what the zionist establishment labels as hip hop, I have more credibility than them.

tippi, if I had to not listen Hiphop music depending on the cover then I would have had to stop listening by now, lol.

Just think about it: how many rap albums will you hold in your hand saying "look Dad, this is a great piece of music" and you know his mind would be "what the fuck is this cover? Is my son listening to those type of idiots'

And yes, I agree that many of those albums have very good music and even your dad (or mine) might like some of them. But we can't change the fact that many covers show that the artist behind that album is most likely an under 35yo ignorant guy with just enough brain to write some rap lines

Just ask yourself why older artists don't have such stupid covers with guns everywhere, drugs or the hardest mafioso face they can put. Because that's mainly what kids do and being a kid is highly related with being ignorant

And those older artists that still do it just have their brain too damaged by the use of illegal substances

first off my dad wouldn't think any "negative" sounding hip hop is a great piece of music, he has no context for any of it lol, and that lack of context is part of the reason why I wouldn't be embarrassed by what anyone thinks of this artwork that i didn't choose or create. same thing with metal album artwork.

"But we can't change the fact that many covers show that the artist behind that album is most likely an under 35yo ignorant guy with just enough brain to write some rap lines"

that's pretty much ALL genres though, outside of maybe pop music, soul, r&b, and jazz. you're making it seem like this is something unique to hip hop when i really don't think it is. you could point to plenty of punk, rock, and metal albums and write it off as "immature" based on the album art, but why does if you enjoy the music? also if you do enjoy it, why wouldn't you want the cover art to reflect the content especially if it's actually representative of the life the artist is living? what would you put on the cover of these albums instead to give you an idea of what the album would sound like? it sounds this is more about this type of content & violence in hip hop period for you than just the artwork. like i said before though, i feel like what you're talking about only applies to maybe 1% of the hip hop album covers out there. at least in the last 15 years or so. now that i think about i, i see more variety in hip hop album art than any other type of music i can think of because hip hop itself has become such a broad & diverse genre.

LOL you're right about the immature covers but at the same time, the only thing worse than an immature cover for a 50 year old rapper is a mature cover. You wanna see GZA in his pajamas drinking warm milk with the Prep H on his night table?
