In what was a three album race as late as last night before it pulled away, Weather or Not takes the title as the UGHH AOTY for 2018. My personal AOTY and this is the second consecutive year the album that won dropped in the first quarter of the respective year. Always impresses me when an album wins that dropped earlier in the year as it means it stood the test of a thousand other releases after it and still stood head and neck above the rest.

Here's the Top 10 from the final round...

Evidence - Weather or Not - 74
Masta Ace & Marco Polo - A Breukelen Story - 60
Ka & Animoss - Orpheus vs. the Sirens - 56
Khrysis & Elzhi - Jericho Jackson - 40
Crimeapple & Big Ghost – Aguardiente - 39
Armand Hammer – Paraffin - 36
Roc Marciano - RR2: The Bitter Dose - 36
Pusha T – Daytona - 31
The Doppelgangaz – AAAAGGGHH - 30
Atmosphere - Mi Vida Local - 29

Some observations on the Top 10. Surprised the Masta Ace album finished ahead of Ka. I think Roc dropping three albums in the same year actually hurt his case at taking a run for the AOTY. Pusha finishing ahead of albums from Dopp, Atmosphere, Apathy, Roc, Dr. Octagon, etc really took me by a pleasant surprise.

I might have to check out that Masta Ace/Marco Polo. It just screams generic underground boom bap which the 2014 version of me would've went fanboi over but nowadays have little desire to peep shit like that.

DISGUSTING - generic sleeping pill boom bap from the West meaning no unique style.

Ka & Animoss - Orpheus vs. the Sirens - 56
Khrysis & Elzhi - Jericho Jackson - 40

Armand Hammer – Paraffin - 36
Roc Marciano - RR2: The Bitter Dose - 36
Pusha T – Daytona - 31

those are cool - rest is emulation (Big Ghost) and boring generic trash...Khrysis at least flipped known samples...

Evidence's voice get's annoying after about 2 or 3 songs for me.

Still nice to hear that West Coast underground type business being kept alive along with ELIGH and more.

I was expecting Weather or Not in top 3, Masta Ace & Marco Polo ended surprisingly high in my opinion same as Crimeapple and Armand Hammer finished lower.

Roc just in 7 place is a surprise, again RR2 better than BADH???

P.S.: Pusha T who?

I need to listen to that Masta Ace album again, I thought it was pretty damn boring. Glad to see Jericho Jackson in the top 5. I liked Aguardiente, Crime State of Mind is one of the best tracks of the year.

I'm not surprised by Evidence winning:

1-He made a very good album that no doubt deserved to be in the Top 10 of the year
2-He's well know for a while so everybody listened to his album (most of the people, including myself didn't)
3-His music is 80% classic rap and 20% indie rap
3-He is white, like probably most of the people here so he probably so he probably raps about stuff people here relates to more often

And I'm also surprised to see Masta Ace album as the 2nd one. The fact that he is one of the favourite MC's for many people (including myself) and he's a very down to earth man helped

WELL DESERVED!

Clock, Love Is a Funny Thing is better than any song on the album. Was listening to this heavy over the weekend. Such a cohesive album.

Don't forget the bonus track banger...

i find most evidence stuff boring and this album was no exception....oh well.

i kinda figured orpheus vs. the sirens would win because people seem to gravitate towards that more progressive type of shit in the voting.

roc dropping 3 albums definitely hurt his case....rr2 and behold were incredible records, but i see most like one or the other so they split a lot of the votes. with some kaos mixed in too.

ka and roc have had they shine.

good for ev. the album withstood the test like clock said this year it was the best album for the 1st quarter. then i went back and bumped it in the fall and it still was my shit. every song.

in a tough year for ev, probably his toughest ever, at least there's been a little silver lining in the clouds for the guy.

Album stood the test of time over the past year due to diverse production, diverse content sprinkled with some dope guest spots. Complete album to me and well deserved. To me if you like Evidence then you'll dig this album but if not nothing on this album is going to win you over, especially if you're not a fan of his voice/flow.

Here's 11 through 21 for any heads that care...

Skyzoo - In Celebration Of Us - 25
Westside Gunn – Supreme Blientele - 24
Apathy – The Widows Son - 24
Roc Marciano - Behold A Dark Horse - 23
Benny – Tana Talk 3 - 23
DJ Muggs and Roc Marciano – KAOS - 18
Knowledge The Pirate – Flintlock - 18
Dr. Octagon – Moosebumps - 17
Czarface and MF DOOM - Czarface Meets Metal Face - 15
Apollo Brown & Joell Ortiz - Mona Lisa - 13
Ankle John & Big Ghost - Van Ghost - 10
