Starting to think Fahim doesn't give two shits about his fans, outside of 5 people who have been willing to buy over $100

$1000 digital or physical (1 of 3)

https://thagodfahim.bandcamp.com/album/dump-gawd-episode-4

Also, Hommy raised all his to $187 now.

i support the artists discretion on how to value his work, if paintings can fetch $1 million dollars for it's visual content, why can't an artist charge $1,000.00 for a work of musical art? ...especially if there is less than a handful made?

this has never really been done before, and we are entering uncharted territory regarding how indie artists value their work. exclusivity has always come with a price, as does the work they put into their offering. Do you really feel an artists deserves $10 for their craft?

...i can only wish success.

the reasons those paintings sell so much though is because they're unique. an artist would never be able to recreate that exact painting. they're not simply creating one painting because they feel like it, they're doing it because there's no way that they could duplicate that exact painting and still have it be authentic. yeah they could make prints, but those aren't whats selling for a ton of money. fahim is making limited copies of these cds by choice, and is purposely alienating a huge chunk of his fan base and also leaving a bad taste in the mouth of potential fans. it's cool that he's making money, but i still think the whole thing is lame as fuck and he thinks waaaay too highly of himself. he's a decent artist, but he's no van Gogh.

I agree with DJ Rolo, but I can also respect opinions saying it's pretentious. And when I say pretentious, it doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad thing. It just depends on the viewpoint. No real right answer imo.

can we all agree that a small time indie rapper that only people on ughh.com know about is not really comparable to a world famous master painter? i know that sounds like a karim thing to say, but come on. let's be real here.

i understand everyones points, honestly, but the sneak thing is a perfect example. people pay thousands for sneakers they probably won't even wear....this a piece of art that has the ability to inspire, create, and give much more satisfaction than a pair of sneakers ever could IMO.

he's actively trolling his fans, by pushing away career opportunities for short term payoff, via taking advantage of stan loyalty.

it was different when wu-tang did it, because they have a massive following, and there's huge demand for their work. so having a limited (1 copy) release with a jacked up price was okay. rza even talked about it like a painting, and it was way more appropriate in that context -- although, side note: rza's a pretentious crackpot, who actually says bong in real life sentences. fahim, on the other hand, has a rather small following, and, instead of being good and thankful to the small fanbase he has, he's selfishly exploiting their loyalty. so is mach. they're stepping on the backs of their fans to make a quick buck, and some fans are actually loyal enough to bend over and let themselves get stepped on by these guys who could, in fact, give a fuck about them.

which is stupid of fahim and mach. it's a terribly naive and short-sighted business and career move from two young rappers. too young to know what's good for them, i guess. how can your fanbase grow, if (a) you constantly punish your most loyal fans by jacking up the prices, and (b) you actively prevent any possibility of your music getting proper exposure with new fans? how?

it's like fahim and mach watched that episode of southpark where cartman buys a theme park, and stupidly thought that what happens to the theme park at the end of that episode was a realistic business strategy.

i'm a fan of both fahim and mach, so their really stupid business practices are quite unfortunate, if you ask me.

sneaker fashion has been around for decades, and jacking up the prices of limited edition sneakers was started by already established, major sneaker makers. house hold names, like nike and adidas. the trend of jacking up the sneaker prices wouldn't have caught on, if it was started by some no-name shoe brand that just started making shoes two years ago.

let's actually go all the way with this sneaker analogy you guys wanted to start here:

so let's say it's 1980. nike and adidas are investing an exhaustive amount of money, man hours, and market research to make the right shoe. and to make it at an affordable but competitive price for the buyer. there's a whole craft to it, and these guys are putting literally everything they have into perfecting that craft.

meanwhile, some local shoe repairman in atlanta decides he's good enough to make a shoe. so he makes some shoes. he doesn't put a lot of effort into them, really. he tries to make some more noticeable attributes of the common shoe work well on these shoes of his, but, on the whole, his shoe-maker efforts are pretty lackadaisical.

so there's a shoe expo. nike, adidas, and some other big name shoe companies are presenting and selling their newest shoe lines there.

this local shoe maker, who no one at the expo has ever met, shows up to the expo. he gets on a box, in the middle of the room, and yells, "i have 25 pairs of shoes i just made. there won't be more. these are limited in number... i wish to sell them for $1000!".

does anyone turn to this man with interest? does he sell any of his shoes? does nike and adidas take notice of this man's half heartedly made shoes, and his high priced business strategy with envy?

...

no. fuck no.

that's not what happened. that's a fictional and unrealistic story. but that's exactly what fahim and mach are doing. kanye and eminem are the nike and adidas of this story. regardless of what you think of their music, those guys literally shut themselves away from the world to spend months and months making their music. fahim and mach are the local shoe maker. the fools of the story.

His reasoning is that he gave away enough material for free that now he's upping the ante. Do i agree with $1000 for a CD? Fuck no but all it takes are 3 people out of his thousands of fans to cop this shit and his project is more than funded and then some. Do i think there are people with expendable cash dumb enough to do so? Of course.

There really isn't a great analogy out there to compare to what is going on with these inflated prices. Even as recent as a couple years ago the only CD's that were selling for even over $100 were rare and OOP ones, not brand new shit. Funny tho how WSG and Conway have jumped on the price hiking train over the past few months were there material too.

now what happens when [insert artist] decides "Fahim got this type of money, why can't i?" and rightfully so, there are many albums that came out this year as good if not better than his, so why can't they also get $1,000.00 for their music?

Putting an album up for stream ain't giving it away for free. I didn't even know he put out that Giallo album for free (though I know it was on Spotify).

First time I heard Fahim was when he put out that dis track to Hus after Easter Gunday dropped. Next thing I knew him and Mach weren't officially on the Griselda roster anymore and that track vanquished from existence. That shit kinda turned me off to his music cause it just appeared unwarranted (whether it was or not, I couldn't know). I think anytime the first time you hear someone is when they are dissing someone else it's kind of a put off unless they are crazy nasty with it. But it did intrigue me enough to look at his body of work which was surprisingly pretty big at the time. I noticed his work ethic and listened to some stuff at that time. Didn't come back to it til later.

It wasn't until I started frequenting these boards that I realized how many fans he had. I bought Dollar Menu then checked for a few other releases. The guy has an amazing ear and work ethic and is taking a different approach towards selling his art. I agree with those who wouldn't spend that kinda bread on it but I also can't be mad at him doing whatever the fuck he wants when it comes to selling his music.

His social media posts are so emphatically emotionally driven. It's clear his passion is to get paid for what he feels his music is worth. I say let him do him. I'd like to listen more cause there's something there but when a dude feels like fuck your opinion if you don't spend your bread on my shit, then his music just ain't for you. I'm fine with whatever I'm missing at $111.11 digitally just like he's fine with me missing it.

Yo Lex i gotta disagree with you. By him putting it up on Soundcloud it allows any tech n00b an opportunity to rip them into mp3 format. Now it might not be top shelf FLAC quality but it's more than serviceable. I got HBO through doing that and sound isn't bad at all when bumping in the whip.

should start an album buying leaker pool. 20 people pay $5 for these $100 releases and then leak them asap. fahim would be requiring photo ID to buy his albums and a signed contract not to leak then.lol

i see this trend getting more detailed cause selling just 20 copies seems to be working-no leak yet and its been a few weeks since dump legend. artists could say to the exclusive buyers of the 20 copies that if it dosnt leak they will get exclusive tracks, discounts, even albums, early release dates etc. i can see it.
