Url what are your favorite albums this year?

Top 3 for me
1. George Fields - Beyond Realm
2. Dillon & Paten Locke - Food Chain
3. UG - Portals

Was pretty much into instrumental albums last year. Favorites include Klaus Layer, Chairman Maf, P-Original... But Beyond Realm by George Fields is by far my most cherished record of 2016.

Not to forget some great albums came out in the last quarter: Last Jazz Club, Sinks, Saipher Soze & Daniel Son, all must haves.

I don't know if Ka and WSG are going to be easy runaways as i previously thought. I did a quick skim but Ka made 11 of 25 lists and Flygod made 8 of 25 lists itt. I might be off by one or two with my count but interesting turn of events.

Gave KA another listen cuz of all the AOTY hype here.

WTF are you hearing that I'm not hearing?

0 points for flow.
0 points for voice.
0 points for beats.

Couple points for being called out in the paper for being a firefighter but other than that...totally boring. Where the fuck do you play this? Not the whip, not when you're working out, not when tryin to get motivated to do shit. Maybe when I'm really high? No thanks, there's literally 500 other albums I can fux wit. Shit's weak.

Yea i was a little disappointed in the Ka album this year. Gave it a few spins on a few different occasions and while it had it's moments, it wasn't near the level as Yen Lo or Grief Pedigree.

That track '$' is flames doe.

I know he's not a fan in general but I was responding to him saying he had just played the album. The two Ka albums I mentioned earlier itt had more life to them and thus were a lot more enjoyable. The one from this year and Nights Gambit were too empty sounding for my liking. Cause Ka is always going to be sharp on the lyrical tip so that's never an issue. It's the soundscape he spits over that makes or breaks his albums to me.

hmm, is the only reason you listen to music to be excited or pump yourself up? because if that's the case then i can understand why you wouldn't like ka. it's definitely not for everyone. It's a moodier, more atmospheric type of album. to me, it's not really a question of where you play it because the album itself IS the "where". i feel like you shouldn't have to be doing anything else to enjoy stuff like this because the music itself engages you, if you let it, but that requires you to give it more attention/focus than a beat tape or an album like run the jewels. kinda like how there are movies that are great to just throw on whenever and have playing in the background while others seem really boring unless you try to understand them and think about what you're actually watching. it's headphone music. i listen to it when i actually want to listen to a cohesive, well-put together album, not to just throw on something while i'm doing something else entirely. that's the difference to me. honestly though ka's albums do motivate me to do shit though, i think his lyrics are pretty life affirming actually.

I'd rather read a book then listen to KA. It's the same thing. I guess if I'm trying to fall asleep this is dope.

I heard his other album before this and felt the same way.

Not my shit at all. And it's not a no drum thing. I'm cool with no drum shit here and there. It's the voice and flow.
