it's fine to break that mold IMO

i think so too, as i said above, but i think there's a big difference between breaking norms that you've already mastered, and avoiding norms that show your weaknesses. i would say fahim and mach avoiding the typical 16/hook/16/hook/16 structure is definitely in the latter.

and i'm not against an artist being aware of their own limitations, and living in that space. i actually applaud some artists for being that self-aware. what i am saying, though, is that, if these guys want to add some popularity and longevity to their careers, i think they'll need to challenge themselves and stop avoiding the popular/tried-and-true song structures of their genre. those structures are universally popular for numerous valid reasons.

^making sense 88.breaking molds is good and i agree fahim is dropping bars basically.he has hooks but many songs are just a breakbeat over 1 or 2 really ill samples and a verse about similar things to every other songs. he's always general.every once in a whole he will have a specific topic about a women or etc.
he's not next level in any way except for putting out lots of ill tracks. and those ill tracks aint mind bending lyrics or serious in depth beat making with layers or drum fills, change ups etc.fahim should expand on his production techniques/skills and break the mold!

On Ohh Baby you can hear the loop is not chopped right and you can hear the cut.
Also Tha God uses some very know drum breaks.

Fahim does straight hip hop extremely well.
If I wanted some shit to break the bold I will go play some.Billy Woods wiunkthe 2nd AOTY known unknown

lol, yeah, i noticed that.

Fahim does straight hip hop extremely well.

yup, he does. i don't mean to come off like i'm hating itt. i think he's dope. i just see lots of room for improvement. he's good now, but he could be a legend, if he plays his cards right over the next few years. he's still young.

listening to DG5 right now. the beats on sapphire, max well, and apple pie are all very dope in very different ways. fahim showing this type of variety in the beats of the last three tracks is a real good sign for future projects, imo.

he just needs to shake up his rap writing. give it the same variety he gives his beats.

He make JLo cry if he made any sort of mad money from Hip Hop and done world tours..
I go to his show with a Jon Wayne Tshirt to annoy him.

Mach-Hommy is an esoteric artist. Popular structures isn't what he does. And he does whatever he does better than most rappers who stick to popular formula.

these tracks won't last, unless they're mixed in with real songs.

Mach's songs have conceptual depth and tie into one another to form his albums. That's HIS approach to longevity as opposed to only using popular approaches. Not to mention, he DOES use hooks and even SINGS them at times, so Mach is pretty much versatile and the complete package

mf doom and jay electronica might be able to break that formula, but they are exceptionally good rappers, who are in complete control of their abilities as rappers. fahim and mach, on the other hand, are still young, talented emcees. in art, you must master the rules, before you can break them. these guys got a long way to go, in terms of learning the songwriting formulas

Mach is a master and in complete control of his abilities

i meant songs based on a hook, as in the song was written around a hook, which is lame to me.. i didn't mean hooks in songs in general. most rap is just that, and it's cool, but not everyone does it, it that's ok with me. can't have 100% of artists doing it, let the 85% do it, and let the Mach's & Fahim's be that other 15% this music needs that type of diversity

why fix something that ain't really broke?

And I don't see how Jay Electronica is any better. If anything, he has yet to release an album as masterful as HBO let alone an album at all. Isn't that a popular convention that needs to be mastered?

I fucks with all three but Divino has some grind and grit with his voice which makes it more unique. I wouldn't mind hearing him over some Fahim beats. He's a hell of a producer too. Produced a bunch of joints on the 100 Fahim tapes from this year along with this EP...

^^^ive prolly been a fan a full decade longer than u have. i dont really care bout lyrics nemore, especially wen ur delivery is so fucking boring. street tales and slick wordplay have been done since the birth of rap with more interesting characters. i could care less if ur formation of words are different. its lesser versions of better rappers before them. they suck

Mach doesn't have a boring delivery and he is one of the greatest to ever exist if you talking strictly pure rapping skills. HBO is done more masterfully than most street rap. Nobody took the Haitain/African diaspora concept approach to it rap before
