In retrospect, OB4CL2 should win this shit bros.

Also if anyone notices an album listed that didn't drop in 2009 please let me know so i don't include it in the voting.

i don't know if we're counting instrumentals, but blockhead - the music scene was really good.

stoney Jackson was probably the best album from this year though....madlib killed the production on there.

I'm in the minority, but Tanya Morgan- Brooklynati is a masterpiece to me. Such a well executed album. In the Ruff is right there too. Stoney Jackson also dope. Pretty good year I guess. Lots of albums I haven't heard in this thread. I marvel at you guys that are able to listen to so much music, good work.

I heard Relapse once and thought it was wack.

The Ecstatic shits on most albums I've heard that are listed itt. That album is slept on, maybe partly cause of how douchey Mos can be at times.

ob4cl - (a universal aoty contender for sure)
the extatic - (mos def bodied it.)
ide - table of content (everyone was goin nuts over this back then)
mr lif - i heard it today (a perfect album)
paten locke - super ramen rocket ship (amazing sleeper album of funky hip hop on tres)
mop - foundation - just bumped this, still pretty great
mega - born and raised (another solid joint by a legend)
apathy - wanna snuggle (my fav solo he's done easily)

no mask..c'monnnn^^ that Eminem album is trash

cosign ci_fus^^...people aren't listing albums they think are top 19 worthy, just listing to list. 80% of these albums aren't top 10 worthy imo, but whatever...if it makes it more interesting then whatever

^if you think its trash thats your problem. haha. shits got the best beats from that year, the sonics are in another universe, production is next level.album also is the most entertaining imo, best multis, most replay value. anybody that says its no good isnt being honest or objective. its trendy to hate anything popular but a lot of the underground shit from that year is boring and basic in comparison. fools better re listen and be honest!

as far as complaining about people listing lots of albums, it seems like certain peoples egos are bruised cause they ever heard lots of the albums so they just pretend people are listing just to list. we already agreed on here that its good to list as much as possible so we can all be exposed to new artists and albums. makes total sense.

that's definitely one of my favorite 2009 albums, but i feel like i've seen a lot of people here shit on it so it probably won't make top 5.

i don't agree that it's the weakest year though, shit i don't even see how anyone could think it was a bad year in first place after seeing what was nominated in this thread. anyone saying that who has heard the majority of these albums must be pretty picky. that must be pretty picky. there's a ton of quality releases imo, i thought 2008 was much worse.

this. if an album isn't top 10 worthy, then it won't make top 10. what's the problem? like others have mentioned itt, it's better to just name all the projects we think are good. people might get put on to something they've never heard before, or people might be reminded of projects they haven't heard in a while and will end up revisiting them. it's a win/win.

no mask, as we said before it's cool to revisit all these albums, but i understood the rules as vote for who you thought would be the top 10 of said year...not list every single album that came out. we got like almost 100 titles already, but it's cool, i aint got beef...i just think that Eminem album is crap, but i still got love for y'all, bad tastes and all!

really it's just nice to have all the notable releases listed in one place for each year for people to look back on and reference in the future. there's been a handful of projects mentioned for each year that i hadn't heard before. even though i didn't feel any of them were top 10 worthy after i checked them out, many had at least a few dope tracks that i might not have heard otherwise so i'm thankful that they were mentioned.

man, it would suck if this website or the forums did end up going down and the threads disappeared or you couldn't access them anymore. i also hope someone is bookmarking these threads since you cant view 2018 threads with the forum search lol.

The format of these album of the year threads works perfectly for me. Good to revisit the particular year and hear some music you maybe hadn't

Not as if people are just listing albums for the sake of it as otherwise we would have well over 500 for each year. I listened to 100 plus releases up until 2007 but no where near as much after

Clock, you could take off Madlib - Beat Konducta 5&6. The vinyl releases were from 2008. The CD was released in 2009.

Also, In Search of Stoney Jackson is a 2010 release. It leaked in 2009, so everyone thinks it's 2009. But Discogs and Wiki show it was released officially in 2010.

Relapse is better than the four albums that have won their respective years since we've been doing this vote. Only one coming close is Vaudeville Villain.

Ill unpin this tomorrow and first round goes up Sunday night. Might only be 3 rounds if we don't get more albums nominated.

I'm not saying it's the best album out of all the albums from the years we've done. I just feel like Below The Heavens, Monkey Barz, and Disposable Arts are good but not great albums. I don't think i had any of them in my Top 3 in the finals from those years votes.

CeeDub - The one thing I can't wrap my head around...how does a Stan like you not think Beautiful is EASILY the best song on the album, and one of the best Em songs EVER. That is the only song on the album that gets constant replay.

That sample is off the hook.

It's grown on me and is a dope song but just feels out of place on Relapse. Interesting story behind it and also explains why it doesn't fit with the other songs on the album...

Eminem expanded to the Observer Music Monthly May 2009, on why this is the only song that he retained from the dark period in his life when he wasn't sober. He explained: "It's the only one I could actually listen to and feel OK about. It brings me back to a time when I was really depressed and down, but at the same time it reminds me of what that space is like and what never to go back to. There is a lot of honesty in that song that I wouldn't want to just throw away. I started writing the first verse and half of the second when I was in rehab going through detox. I didn't have a beat in my head or anything like that… I wrote the verse and just knew I wanted it to be a bounce-style, I guess. I got that first bit out and finished it when I got out of rehab, when I relapsed right back into taking pills. If you listen to that song and how it starts off, I'm just so f--king depressed."

Eminem told The Observer Music Monthly that he when he wrote this song he was "sitting on the end of the bed in detox, not fully committed to it and not fully detoxed. They give you medicine to make your detox not as rough." He added: "I wrote it during that period – the first two days. I was sitting there not knowing where I wanted to be in my career. I didn't even know if I wanted a career any more, because this s--t was too much. It just wasn't worth it."

Yea the accent and more darker, cartoonish content on Relapse is either hit or miss for most fans. The beats are fucking amazing though. Some of Dre's best since Chronic 2001. Clean and crisp.
