I know Wicked isn't the biggest fan. What's the general census of them on these parts of UGHH?

at what point would you say that direction turned that you weren't thrilled with? prior to Lemons? Family Sign?

i honestly dont know. but a bunch of times i tried their newer albums and was turned off. too folky, family style emo rap at points designed to gain a larger audience.

Wicked is also a fan of ethnic shlong by the foot in his lily white ass, so fuck what he likes.

Atmosphere is dope.
Can't lie & say I love everything they come out with, but enough that I'll always check for them.
Just mentioning their most recent albums, Southsiders was really good in my humble opinion, and I liked Fishing Blues too, but not as much.

pretty much what no mask said. the turning point for me was probably when life gives you lemon's. that was the last album of theirs that i really liked, the stuff they've done since then is cool but i rarely revisit it, just doesn't grab me the same way.

I'm probably the resident Atmosphere Stan on UGHH.

Listening to this mix right now...thanks Lenny.

In regards to the change in sound...the change happened on WLGYL. I know this is some people's favorite Atmosphere album, but honestly, it's one of my lease favorite. I was disappointed with it when it dropped and still don't think it's as good as some of their more recent releases.

I think The Family Sign was the low point for them. The album was too soft. The weird part was they dropped To All My Friends in between WLGYL and The Family Sign, and I friggin love that album - and it was free (even though I bought the CD and limited vinyl).

They came back HEAVY with Southsiders - that album is AMAZING imo.

Fishing Blues was really good, but like Norman said, it's not as good as Southsiders.

Bottom line: Atmosphere is probably the greatest independent hip hop group of all time. Definitely the best hip hop live show ever. No matter if you like them or not, you should show some fucking respect.

And I finally got to listening to the Overcast! vinyl last night...this bonus track with Beyond is amazing. Beat knocks so hard.

Nassau – word.
WLGYL is a personal fav. Waitress, Yesterday, Painting all great songs. But I feel you and realize those who came up on the earlier stuff had a hard time adjusting to their change. Reality is, Slug is 45 years old now so the music has to be different. Family Sign was the start of dad rap I suppose. The funny thing is a lot of those free tracks were leftovers from WLFYL album. 2 of their biggest commercial hits were left off that album. He talks about that in the interview. Agree with you guys, Southsiders is better than Fishing Blues.

Yep, I was on the Atmosphere train early.

FTR - When I say the album was a disappointment, I sill love the album. I'm a harsh critic when it comes to certain artists.

And I always find personal gems on all of those releases. My favorite track on WLGYL is In Her Music Box. My favorite track on Family Sign is I Don't Need Brighter Days.

objectively the most successful underground group of all time.

on a personal level, though, i'm not a fan. i love ant's beats, but don't care for slug's rapping abilities. iiwii. i listen to ant's work with bro ali, instead.

I've liked them since I first heard about them and saw them perform near their start. The style just gets boring to me and I'm not interested in hearing anything new even if it is pretty good...just sounds like the same old thing to me. Too many other artists that appeal to my tastes better.

88, Slug was "lyrical" when he was truly underground. Overcast and before were his peak lyrically.

Slug is one of me favourites along Masta Ace and Blueprint. Once that said I must say that I didn't enjoy any album related after The Family Signs and that "dad rap" thing is corny

Figured you'd be sitting this one out. There are tracks on here that aren't solely Atmosphere, though, they all feature Sluggo.

CunninLynguists – Don’t Leave (When Winter Comes) feat. Slug
Evidence – Late For The Sky feat. Slug & Aesop Rock
MHz (Copywrite & RJD2) – Satisfaction feat. Slug
Moleman – Put Your Quarters Up feat. Slug, Aesop Rock & MF DOOM
MF DOOM – Supervillianz feat. Kurious & Slug
When The Lights Go Out feat. Kool Keith & MF DOOM
KRS-One & Buckshot – We Made It feat. Slug

Expand and catapult daggers to saturate your catalog
And lodge a catastrophic cannon ball in your abandoned lot
