So I was thinking this morning about the state of hip hop.
Its so trendy and dumb down right now
It used to kinda bother me sorta
Not cause im a ughh head but I just couldnt grasp listening to sup par lyrics over 808 drums and keyboard synths
Its ok in small amounts I suppose but I listen to alot of music daily and new shit just isnt in my playlist
I couldnt get why these younger cats like that shit.
But today I realized something I had forgotten is that all this "Trap" bullshit is just a trend.
Remember "Hyphy"?
Who the fuck even makes that kinda music anymore and that was super popular in the late 2000's.
You start to think is this what hip hop is now?
Trap is not HIP-HOP its some other shit.

Why is this dumb downed basic drug promoting music popular?
Well theres a million reasons
But why isnt cool social hip hop relevant
or just any non trap hip hop popular
Waves.
As a semi-older cat you learn things and thats that trends come and go like waves
I feel happy knowing this music will fade off into existence
All the "Lil" rappers
All the "Savages" 1-23
Anyone with "Young" in there name
Im just sayin shits done I can feel it in the air (shout out to Beanie Siegel)
What I realized there downfall is that there demographic is basically like 18-23 year olds
If your 45 and you listen to Lil Uzi Vert then I dont know what to tell you.
Real hip hop is relatable to everyone to a degree thats why it always remains thru all the trends.
I think im more excited to see what the newest thing will be cause from experience it will be 180 different then this trap bullshit and that has to be a good thing in my opinion.
-Peace!

I did read what you wrote and you started off by saying that you were thinking about the state of HipHop then went on to talk about shit that isn't HipHop so I was left kind of confused.

I'm thinking about the state of Major League Baseball but let me go talk about Steph Curry and LeBron James. C'mon, son!

wicked, it's not what you or many other people your age perceive to be hip hop but it's the current state of hip hop in the public eye, whether you like it or not lol. someone who listens to these artists isn't going to say they listen to mumble rap or trap music, they're going to say they listen to hip hop because it's a part of modern hip hop culture, at least in the mainstream. you can yell that migos or lil uzi vert aren't hip hop from the rooftops as much as you want but that's just your own opinion and it isn't going to change anything. anyone else would have known what paper piff and polo meant by his post, you're just being pedantic.

in response to the op:

i don't really care for most of the trap/mumble rap i hear, but i can't deny that it's catchy/fun every once in a while i'll hear something i like the sound of. that being said i feel like there a lot of other artists outside of that who are getting attention, not just these mumble rappers. it seems like there's more variety now in mainstream/semi-mainstream hip hop/rap than there has been probably since the 90s, do you agree with that? i definitely think mumble rap/trap (as it sounds now anyway) will start to fade out within the next couple of years though, at least a little bit. curious to see what the next trend will be lol.

Yeah you can just tell when something is cool and unique it starts small and people slowly grasp on to it but now its bubbled over in the mainstream.
Its poppy now and thats where it loses its cool.
Once its in the grammys and on top 40 radio its done cause now the mainstream is just turning it into a fuckin kit kat commercial or a cool cell phone commercial.
In 5 years your gonna see alot of poor black dudes with fucked up hair in the unemployment line.
Other thing is theres no substance
None of that mumble rap will be listened to 10 years from now
Never been a classic groundbreaking mumble rap album
Migos and Future are probably at the top of the food chain and thats fuckin sad
I think everyone knows its on the way out also but no one wants to admit it.

i agree that most of it is pretty disposable. a few of the bigger tracks like bad and bougie or panda might be remembered in 10 years the same way people remember one hit wonders from the 80s/90s, it'll just be nostalgia. i don't think any of these albums will be heralded as classics a decade from now either, but i feel like a lot of kids listening to this music aren't even considering that. they listen to migos because it sounds good to them now, not because they believe culture is a classic that they'll still be bumping in 2030.
