Ok so as 2017 winds down, these are my top 10 hip hop album picks for 2017. These are the ones I kept going back to to listen to all year long, as well as front to back they are just dope overall in the following categories....

1. Dope Beats
2. Mc's sound good on the tracks, and they all have iLL voices to listen to.
3. The Beats and The Rhymes match themselves.
4. Skits, intros, outros were dope
5. Can bump front to back and hardly skip 1 track
6. MC's all have good flow

That Pudgee is a 90's album.

Yo Platform why don't you start contributing to other threads on the forum other than you just posting your favorite album lists 95% of the time?

Yeah no doubt, any album that gets released for the first time in 2017... makes it a 2017 album release. The fact it got shelved is a bad hapinstance for it.

at tip

i pretty much had 2 top 10's the last half of the year when i was listening to a lot more abstract shit (i go through a phase every year where i go full spectrum and listen to a lot of different, experimental shit but i usually dont tend to revisit a lot of it) but i always knew i'd rein that in and i just did. a lot of that more abstract or softer stuff while stimulating at first just lacks replay, rawness, the real rap qualities and a lot of it is too subdued, emotional, depressing, overly abstract at the end of the day but still important in its own right. i've always liked my rap raw and more hard and intense (mr. scarface is back is in my top 15 of all time for example)and while i dont agree with all the negativity i cant base what albums are better on whats more positive or healing. ultimately it comes down to what got me the hypest, what i bumped the most, what really met my criteria for what constitutes a raw and intense real rap album with lots of replay value.

Mach Hommy - Dumpmeister
DJ Quik & Problems - Rosecrans

makes sense. that's honestly how i feel about a lot of the stuff on your list like fahim, the oh no & tristate, heavy metal kings etc. i appreciated these albums and enjoyed listening to them for the first time, but most of that stuff just doesn't really stand out to me or i don't return to it. there are always some excepts though. i mean, i really dug yen despite me not being a huge fan of nolan the ninjas' rapping in the past. there are also others like mach, but i don't really put him in the same category as some of these other guys. he's closer to someone like billy woods than some of the other artists on your list.

still good though that you at least try to step outside your confort zone and expose yourself to everything that's out there. did you hear that big krit album or nah? and another question, would you consider an album like milo's "who told you to think" from this year to be raw, since almost every track on there was recorded in one take and album has that vibe of a live environment? just curious, because i know people have different personal definitions of words, like gino arguing that wiki isn't grimy lol.

^raw for me refers to the production quality. the overall timbre/sound quality of the beats-the dusty, static , muddy basslines, hard drums etc. and also the emcees energy and how much it brings me alive etc.

that milo is great. the beats are all jazzy and well done, the mixing is creative but too many are a bit dismal and or sad vibes and his content drags for me as he's most of the time dwelling on the heavy or sad perspectives- maybe even having the victim mentality etc. he's blatantly adept at constructing that true poetry and speaking from a learned philosophical place and lyrically he's great and the substance is of course there BUT my above mentioned issues dragged the album way down.

^anchovies has its great aspects but 6 or 7 played out samples used and most not even flipped better or different, some cheesy hooks from asia, asia gets redundant for a whole album, too many drumless beats and that fake static added on every tack all bring its rating way down for me.
