The Record Of The Year category recognizes the artist’s performance as well as the overall contributions of the producer(s), recording engineer(s) and/or mixer(s) if other than the artist. The Song Of The Year category recognizes the songwriter(s).

Who in the fuck listens to any of that shit?
How the fuck is Jay-Z nominated at all?
The Grammys are so disconnected from any real music its hilarious.

They just skim the top of any genre and pick the most popular album/song and just say its the best cause it sold the most.

No one ever takes the Grammys serious anyway for at least 29 years or more now anyway.

I wish they had a music awards show for people who just make really good subsatnial music.

That would be awesome

further clarification on the difference between "song" and "record":

Song of the Year is an award for a song itself, not the performance of a song. It is awarded to the songwriters who wrote the lyrics and melody. Record of the Year is the award for a song in its entirety, as it appears on an album. It includes the artist's performance of the song, the song’s production values, the song’s recording engineering, and the mixing of the performance.

i'm guessing 9th is somehow involved in overseeing the hip hop related side of the grammys, but i could be wrong. no idea why tip would criticize him otherwise. noteworthy: 9th is heavily invested in rapsody, produced a track on kendrick's album, and got his big breakthrough with jay-z, so it might not be a coincidence that those albums are nominated, if 9th has grammy influence.

still, though. i mean, fuck the grammys, obviously, but how are they not going to nominate tribe? lol.

as tip points out, especially after having them perform last year. it's not like it can be argued that they're too obscure, if they performed the year before.

I think he's charged up because they were called upon to perform, this is clearly their final chance and the album performed well in terms of sales. Wasn't De La nominated last year for an album that came nowhere close to being as dope at this one. IDK what the general consensus is here but that was my favorite album of last year. I think considering the legacy this group leaves behind, he's got the right to get upset for being snubbed. They are easily one of the most influential groups in Hip Hop. That said, nobody should be surprised that the Grammy's did not consider Tribe for Rap AOTY. This is common Grammy territory.

does this really apply, though? i thought, due to complaints, the grammys changed it, so that only people involved in the genre could vote, rather than having the whole industry vote. in the past, the whole industry voting hurt results, due to ignorance (see: macklemore winning over kendrick a few years back). however, maybe they didn't make that change yet and were just considering it. i'm not sure. i assumed it was made though, and that's why tip's specifically calling out 9th here, suggesting that it's 9th and his team's fault, rather than a bunch of anonymous white dudes.

man i thought both tribe and de la dropped great albums last year. tribe album was top 10 for me, at least at the time i made my list. don't know if it would be now and it's not better than their first 4 albums imo, but i still like it a lot.

^I dug the song with Andre but not so much the one with Kendrick. The album itself was in my Top 10 last year but wasn't worthy of AOTY on here, which it got.

Q-Tip raises some good points but still sounds bitter and butthurt in the video.
