Who's gonna hop on Hot 97 and outdo him huh? NOBODY.

Maaaybe this sparks NYC a little and you get someone like Rakim or KRS to come on the radio and body it but it won't be like what Black Thought did.

Nah it's nothing personal. 99.9% of humanity gave Black Thought a standing ovation. I don't care if you didn't think it was amazing. But what's amazing right?

i have this deeply embeded thing where i wanna big up underground emcees and i'm too critical of popular/big label cats sometimes. i love the roots although i dont approve of all their moves-but i'd probably make the same ones cause i'm no moral tower of integrity and strength.

imma chill a bit for now on.

I don't get too caught up in the underground/mainstream thing anymore. Doppelgangaz are dope and so is Kendrick Lamar. Run The Jewels are dope and so is Planet Asia. Just play what you like man. If it's dope say it's dope and keep it moving. At least thats my philosophy.

at Loewi I mean, obviously you can hear him breath in every line...he's human afterall lol...but to keep up that pace for 10 minutes, you have to have a certain amount of precision. It's definitely impressive. You can catch a few points where he starts to lose his breath, but catches it again.

And Black Thought would rap circles around the majority of MCs named in this thread...outside of Pharoahe Monch and a few others.

I think the GOAT argument is one of the best & also worst to have cause at the end of the day it's subject to each person's tastes and opinions on styles, cadences, flow, delivery, voice, breath control, subject matter etc etc etc. It's all relative to your personal taste of mc's & it brings the passion out of us listeners, but there are so many variables to consider also just on this front.
Then you have to take into account what other factors you want to consider, like financial success/sales, influence on the culture and other artists, their catalog, longevity, etc etc .. these are going to be argued because some people come up with their formula for greatness based on an emcees skills strictly regardless of their monetary success based on such skills, while others feel that if it doesn't make dollars it don't make sense.
Shit's a conundrum.

So here's a different pitch.
Let's bring it back to the whole subject that started all of this.
if you don't feel that the black thought freestyle was all that most people are making it out to be, simply post a radio show video of an emcee ripping shit apart like that for that long & in that situation in recent history, because while I am not a huge hot 97 fan, I also recognize that a lot of people do listen to it & dude had a serious amount of eyes & ears on him & in a pressure environment he bodied it, written or not. He says he freestyled it, I can see where that's somewhat tough to believe but you also have to consider this is a 30 year veteran who most likely forgot more lines & verses than most writers wrote in a lifetime.
And well enough that it's a major topic of discussion amongst listeners all over not just New York, but the world so at the end of the day, how's that not a win for Thought?

A whole lot of reaching with these names and that is okay.
Only way to really know is to have those verses delivered.
Last man standing.

Junkyard Juju | Black Thought

Kurupt | Black Thought

Lloyd Banks | Black Thought

Just because. Later.
