No way to tell *shurgs*

They're both lyrical monists of the highest caliber. They're both scary good, but Mach is also just scary.

depends on what you're looking for, i think open mike eagle is more clever and has found a way to inject humor into songs that cover serious topics in a way that i've never really seen done before in music. he's also got more quotables/stand outlines and a wider variety of subject matter.

I give the slight edge to Mach because while Mike's lyricism is extremely densely layered, his execution of diction is more conventional while Mach's diction is on a whole 'nother level with his slang and phrasing. He elevates the English language. What do you think?

give me some examples, i like mach's lyrics but nothing he's said has ever really hit me so hard that i felt the need to pause/rewind the track.

i don't know why you'd choose OME to compare to mach over billy woods, elucid, DOOM, etc. someone like elucid is way more similar stylistically imo.

"The best gravlax is served inside a sauna, foreigner, agent provocateur, the albacore was on the corner..."

I mean, WTF? It's just the unorthodox choice of words that impresses me. I'm sure 88 will strongly disagree though because he prefers the execution of complex ideas into something more digestible

i mean that's interesting and obviously i'm all for rappers using words that you don't normally hear, but dudes like aesop, DOOM, and even homeboy sandman are able to do that while making me laugh at the same time. i think that's a whole other skillset. i don't know, i just don't connect with mach's lyrics like that, but maybe you do. maybe that'll change in the future, who knows.

also, i respect those artists who will make a song about any topic, even the most mundane things like washing dishes, and find a way to make an interesting and memorable song out of it.

Yeah, it could go either way. I'm sure you could make a great argument about Mike's complex ideas being executed into something more accessible being "better" art (tho I don't necessarily agree)

lol i'm half-joking but it's kinda true, i can't not pay attention to the lyrics. i must have subconsciously trained myself to only do that with music though, because theres been plenty of times where i've fallen asleep with the tv on. shit doesn't make any sense.

don't mention me itt, loewi, lol. i can't get involved after yesterday.

loewi was trying to convince me yesterday that dessa was "more lyrical" than kendrick lamar, so i can't have these vague "more lyrical" conversations for a little while. i just need to sit the convo out. have a good weekend everybody.

i don't know if i'd consider dessa a better lyricist but she's definitely more poetic imo. honestly those aren't two artists i'd ever think to compare anyway, i usually don't try to compare artists outside of their crew/affiliates unless their styles are very similar.. so roc vs ka, slug vs brother ali, milo vs open mike eagle, posdnous vs q-tip, etc would make sense to me.

It all started with me saying Dessa is way better than Rapsody and then he bought up Kendrick Lamar collaborating with her and it all went from there lol
