The Best Part was recorded from 1996 to 1999 and featured production by Prince Paul, DJ Premier, and Pete Rock. It was set for a 1999 release, but due to problems with his record label, Raw Shack Records, J-Live left the label and the album was shelved. J-Live moved to Payday Records, but when Payday's parent company London Records was bought from Universal Music Group by WEA, the album was again shelved. In 2001, copies surfaced as bootlegs and several were of such high quality it was rumored that J-Live himself was behind them. By the fall of 2001, after five years of label problems, The Best Part was finally officially released on Triple Threat Productions

To me that's a 2001 release.

word Clock, i guess technically we have to go by when it was released, but there some albums that were shelved for years, and they don't go by the actual release date..they are still considered a 199X album or whatever

rolo i think this is sort of a unique case though, because the tracklist on the official 2001 release is different from the 1999 release. the tracks were shifted around and of course there's also more of them, so i think it makes sense to vote on this version.

If the J-Live was like the Pudgee where it was shelved for 20 years then that's a different story. But, as tippi pointed out, it only being a two year shelving along with some other minor changes puts it in the 2001 category for me.

Did Van Gogh ever get a proper release? I think maybe a promo version of it but never proper release. If it wasn't then it won't count in the listing.

First round Sunday night, second Monday, 3 and 4 on Tuesday. There should be enough albums to do four rounds again.

Yo ETW the onus is on you to pick the next year we do. I don't mind putting all this shit together in terms of voting threads, etc. but the year is on you.

i hear you Clock, but where do you draw the line? Pudgee was mad years, but Live was only 2, still shelved. what if it was 3? or 5? i think shelved is shelved, to me..and i will always consider that album a 1999 album. A bootleg even came out in 1999, which was supposed to be the original, but they changed it 2 years later doesn't make it more "official"...i dunno man, i'd rather see it in the 1999 but i don't run the boards

no mask & mr ddw - i have that radioinactive album that's split into seperate tracks, i can upload it if you want

rolo - think about this though, most people haven't even heard that bootleg version of the album and if we voted on it when we do 1999 they would have the 2001 release in mind. so people would basically be voting on the wrong album. wouldn't you rather just avoid the confusion and go with the one that everyone is familiar with?
