just like the mos def/marvin gaye mash-up, this has some whatever tracks, but also some fucking great ones. sugar by the pound and for once in my life are highlights, so far.

however, i think that, in general, the mos def/marvin gaye mash-up worked a lot better than this one. the styles came together more naturally.

and i'm not referring to mos and marvin, i'm referring to amerigo and marvin. because the project was about amerigo making beats that only sampled marvin gaye music, and then putting mos def accapellas over top. and it's the same with this new project, where amerigo is making beats only sampling stevie songs, and then laying common acapellas over top. i think that marvin's music was easier for amerigo to sample than stevie's, because the beats worked more consistently on the marvin mash-up than on the stevie one. to be fair, though, i'm not sure stevie's music is all that sample friendly, relatively speaking.

Personally I liked this album more than the mos def/margin gaye mash up albums. Amerigo Gazaway does an amazing job with these. I wish they were released on CD.
