no. you're wrong.

emb's using antiquated semantics that no longer apply in the ways he suggests. it's a good history lesson, but not relevant in 2017.

rap used to be a smaller part of hip hop, as mo bee points out. it used to be about the DJs and the parties they'd throw. the "jams". the rap part of it was the rappers who were the hype men for the DJs. the rapper's job was to get the crowd excited for the DJ, as all hype men do. but, as the emcees started employing unique tac tics to hype and move the crowd for their DJs, they started to get more popular in their own right. eventually the emcee became the main attraction, rather than the DJ. since then, rapping has become the most popular and recognized form of hip hop. it's not all there is to hip hop, but it's the most recognized form of hip hop, and, therefore, is the face of hip hop, and, therefore, is, in most people's understanding, what hip hop is.

you saying rap isn't hip hop is like saying titanic isn't a leonardo disaprio movie (it's a james cameron film, you faggots!). it's just stupid semantics. but you use these old man arguments with the motive of incorrectly holding some sort of elitist ego-serving dominance over others around you. you act like knowing the difference between rap and hip hop makes you smarter than people who just know rap, when, really, you're just manipulating semantics. it's foolish.

im a rapper, a dope producer, and a better DJ than you (not joking). so im way more hip hop than you lil' wicki!

and buying albums and making playlists dosnt make you hip hop or a DJ. you dont even blend let alone scratch, flare, crab, juggle etc. your actually borderline DJ. your a "glorified vinyl player". truly. what have you given to the art/ hip hop? meaning have you expanded on, innovated, elevated any aspect of DJ'ing? No, cause you just passively DJ ,below average as hell, and dont help that art at all with your playlists and basic blends.

your basically using this hip hop superiority thing to feel secure. your a culture vulture who offers no skills as a Dj (you give the art nothing new or skillful even) but you gain from being a weak borderline DJ.pasty ass white goober DJ on a message board pretending your the same as Easy Mo!? haha

hip hop music with rapping is rap music

anyone who is still trying to argue that there's a significant difference between the two in 2017 is just old and out of touch, so they have to find a way to justify not liking the way hip hop sounds in 2017 or the way the genre has involved by dismissing it entirely.

yawn* good bait thread wicked

you got us

rap is a part of the music, the music is part of the whole, there is no difference as they are two different things, Hip Hop is a culture.

You can take from it whatever part you want.

Graffiti was my intro and first love of Hip Hop, but I am not Graffiti.

Back in early 80's we never separated the two so am not going to do so now.

Rap is something you do, how can I be rap?

dahaha its threads like this that remind me/should always be a remider to me to never gaf what wicked thinks of my music.

dude literally gets shit on for trying to dj and then goes and shits on emcee's for trying to make music smh maybe he does it as a coping mechanism for getting dogged like this?

maybe i do it too when the new kids stroll in with an autotuney song hoping to gain some fans on here

shame on all of us maybe

I feel hiphop, but it's in the eye of the beholder. I hate the trends. I don't wear fashionable clothes (corporate manipulation), speak slang (it's just gimmicky movement stuff to promote trap garbage), i don't do hiphop dances (im not against it, i just dont dance), i don't graffitti (it dosnt mean anything outside cities) and i dont dj.

All i care abpit is real lyricism which to me is witty lines/lyrical boxing (rap is somewhat like a sport to me), a message (Jurassic 5 encouraged me to protest), or anything that makes me think (canibus, etc).

So, wordplay and education is what i endorse in rap/hiphop. What does that make me?

Isn't Instagram a tool of corporate commercial tones? Can rap be underground?

So then if it isn't off the top over a lunch room bottle cap and knuckle beat it's not the real deal?

Who cares to debate that both hip hop and rap are obsessed with competition and consumption? Later.
