posted Friday, December 08, 2017 3:40:45 PM the quelle chris album is great but it's a little long and it's not something i listen to all the time. also i kind of have a specific way of scoring these albums and after doing that i couldn't put it above the others. it would have been top 10 for sure but i really like that big krit album and jehst's album grew on me a lot.
i liked the shabazz palaces albums at first but whenever i revisit it i find it pretty underwhelming. the concept is really cool and interesting but musically i don't think they hold a candle to their previous albums. both albums were decent but i dug jealous machines a little more. shine a light is definitely one of my favorite tracks of the year too.

posted Friday, December 08, 2017 4:01:33 PM ^see, as you know i just got into shabazz this year. jealous machines just sticks out for me big time as far as originality, creativity go this year. going through everything 2017 these past couple of weeks i realized my top 20 wasnt an accurate reflection of where my tastes are currently.- it was too one dimensional. really been feeling that brick body kids album and that denmark vessey and azarias album the past few days. Rome won me over too after not giving it a full proper chance the first couple of listens. just wish now that i could fit 15 albums in my top 10.

that P album is great to me largely because it really completes what he's been hinting on,saying bits and pieces about in his songs for 20 years. its like his dissertation. a few of the beats were underwhelming to me though so it fell out of my top 10 pretty fast after it dropped but not a lot of albums pack in that much knowledge and its incredible what he did on it.- those who know will know what i mean. what he said on there is not to be taken lightly, under appreciated or forgotten.and at least he said and expressed that part of himself very fully on the album before he passed.

Extremely under the radar. Carved a real nice spot outside of the current landscape. He did a superb job capturing and expressing what is going on.
The album culminates that mans growth. Went out on a high note and left the people some good music. Later.

something clicked the other day and it was like fuck the cookie cutter closer to boom bap stuff if the creativity isnt there and its negative. the creative, experimental shit challenges me more and packs those layers, is better for my mood. thats something that always bugged me about rap in general -that it was getting to negative. whats the use if you like something a lot for how the beats sound if overall it just feeds negative emotions and feelings.

But the real limiting factor is time and it seems like now, I have only 10% of the time you got (for music listening) and thereby I aint trying to gamble on my personal music taste nomo (which is varied enough for me) - because I know what I got and when you >= 35 yo your preference is pretty much established. After almost 25 y where I spent a huge amount of my time listening to some music I know what fits me best and accordingly I have joints and joints for years in the locker. I could live from that till the rest of my days without anything new and die a happy man.
Im all for sponging and sponging but at some point you sneeze out and the quest hysteria falls off and you follow your instinct and primary taste. iiwii
The range of music i like goes from classical / mostly soundtracks shit, African musica, French musica, Guitar music, hop hop, pop, R&B all the way up till alot of D&B -> its a big spectrum

i don't understand this complaint. i listened to hundreds of albums this year, and 30 is too many? if you feel that way, why not only pay attention to the top 5 or top 10? it's simple lol, and i numbered them for a reason. it's not like it's a random list of albums you have to sift through. the way i see it, it's better to post a decent number of projects so that someone who heard and enjoyed the majority of the albums i posted can find something new. how this is a bad thing?
What tippi does is some enhanced active courageous experimental masochism
i don't really think it's masochism because i usually enjoy the experience of listening to a new album or artist, even if it's not something i would want to experience again. i honestly think it's fun. the only thing that would make me slow down would be if i didn't have time to listen to a lot of music. or if i went deaf lol.
also fuck you ollie, i'd ask what your AOTY is but we all know you don't actually listen to music, you just talk about it

posted Sunday, December 10, 2017 10:38:25 AM let me break this down for you
i like all types of hip hop, i don't hate on mainstream artists just for being popular. i try and understand the appeal of music that i don't personally like, including mumble rap and trap.
i don't care what an artists skin color is, how they dress, what their upbringing was, or what their sexual preference is.
i don't nitpick when it comes to labeling genre
a handful of albums on my list are mainstream albums that get shit on constantly by a lot of "real hip hop heads" aka actual elitists
i don't judge or insult people because of their musical preferences unless i'm joking
i don't push my taste onto others or imply that someone's taste is inferior because they don't like an artist that i do. when i post these albums, the intent is for that music to reach the people who would actually enjoy it.
so how exactly am i an elitist? you fit the definition of an elitist more than pretty much anyone else here here, but you being a hypocrite is nothing new. you're a fucking joke man, your lack of self awareness is fucking astounding lol.

man i don't know if that's true, EP has said before that they never wanted to be put in a box and made whatever they felt like making, and their influences seem to be all over the place. EP said he was a fan of puff daddy and dipset as well as all the underground boom bap stuff. i feel like there's definitely been a progression from lone sharks to hark to peace kehd to this album. my expectations for the album weren't too high after their last few projects but it surprised me, i like almost every single track on there.
boston beard, e.w.w., if it wasn't for the cloak, i've been, beak wet, rollin, pride's cloak, and die 4 it are all great imo.
