The vote was really close, with only a few points separating first from second, until last night when Monkey Barz pulled away. I can't be mad at all at the choice as it was in my Top 5 of 2005. Thanks again to everyone that participated. This continues to be a lot of fun. Looking forward to the next one which is going to be 2001. Nomination thread goes up this Thursday.

Here's the Top 10 from the final round...

Sean Price – Monkey Barz - 71
DANGERDOOM - The Mouse and the Mask - 59
Edan - Beauty and the Beat - 58
Common - Be - 49
Cage - Hell's Winter - 41
Little Brother - The Minstrel Show - 34
GZA/Muggs – Grandmasters - 29
One Be Lo – S.O.N.O.G.R.A.M. - 27
Kanye West - Late Registration - 23
Quasimoto - The Further Adventures of Lord Quas - 19
Black Market Militia - Black Market Militia - 19

*There's 11 albums listed as Quasimoto and Black Market Militia each finished with 19 points.

Ill leave this pinned until Tuesday morning that way everybody that voted gets a 36 hour window to see what won before the thread fades onto the second page.

can't say i'm surprised by this, at least not after how many people were voting for it yesterday night and this morning. at first i thought DANGERDOOM or eden were going to win, but i think this album has broader appeal than both of those so it makes sense. i can see why people wouldn't fuck with the DOOM album because of the how big of a part the adult swim cartoon samples play in it, and with edan the production might be too weird/psychadelic for some people or they might not like his rapping period.

i viewed 2005 as a great year to begin with but after doing this vote and seeing all the nominations, it's even better than i thought it was. so many albums on here that i revisit every few months. best year i've done so far imo, but 2001 might take it's place. really looking forward to that one.

I agree about Monkey Barz having more appeal overall then the other two albums which had their own unique niche to them. DANGERDOOM was actually leading at one point early yesterday

Here's the other two winners since we started doing this...

2003

2007

Just a reminder, once we get through 2000-2009 we'll do an UGHH Album of the Decade which will pit all 10 winners of their respective year against each other.

I was rooting for Edan or DANGERDOOM but Monkey Barz is pretty fucking dope. There are a couple tracks i skip when bumping it however. I played it couple times last week and once again today when i knew it was going to win. Side note but 9th Wonder is so overrated as a producer it's not even funny. I know it's an unpopular opinion but he's too inconsistent for me to call him a great producer as so many on here do.

Etw you are funny. It's like you are oblivious to the fact your taste isn't the norm

Monkey Barz (which I don't love myself by the way), Vaudeville Villain and the Blu and Exile are all widely considered as ughh classics

Not perfect, but probably all round the best hip hop album of 2005 and it's also timeless it seems.

Since so many people vote on these the number 1 pick is almost certain to be pre darn objective.

funny that this ended up winning back in 2005 as well for aoty...

it's a solid album, but I don't think it has held up as much over time, and to me his other two albums are superior. my biggest beef is that it sounds like more of a mixtape than an album, honestly.

Like I said in the voting thread, there was never a shadow of a doubt in my mind that P would win. There's a good chance he'll win every other year he's in too. Not complaining, just how UGHH gets down.

I love this record though. Remember copping it day one and spending almost the whole first day stuck on "Peep My Words". Probably the single best track P ever wrote. It's not a perfect record, and if we're being honest just about every single other album in the runners up are better overall albums, but you can't deny the impact this album had. It literally brought the BCC back from the dead and kicked off a whole new era of UGHH. Also that cover is iconic, I've spent more time than I care to admit looking at it.

There's a good chance he'll win every other year he's in too.

He ended up losing in 2007 but think he was Top 5. I also think him passing so suddenly and still in the prime of his life influences some peoples voting whether they will admit it or not.

I'm one of the few on here that think Cold Vein is massively overrated. I wont be surprised if it wins but ill be annoyed lulz.

It does seem far away in terms of the nominations thread but it gives everyone some extra time to look up albums from that year as well as check them out. The farther back we go, especially once we hit the 90's, there's going to be more and more albums nominated.

having these arugments in person would be fun cuz u could hug after or see the looks on faces but we walk away from our phones or computers hating eachother for opinions. if icon doesnt let this boat sink, he should get the most frequent posters together for a round table discussion. and i truly like and think that luda is better than the cold vein. even if i never saw one thing of el-p and didnt build such hate for him, i still think that album is overrated and super annoying. i legit only like 3 songs from that album. plus ur either a def jux guy or a aotp guy. its hard to be both

and i even admit el-p is unique but who has tried to duplicate his sound in 20 yrs? hes not a trailblazer. most of the shit he makes doesnt even sound like hip hop. i wont say it isnt hip hop cuz im not wicked cuz i do believe he has a place in history but hes hugely overrated and only has a certain set of fans that like that sound. his shit is noisey which i kno tippi will agree with but also likes him for. hes just so far from wat i like. but as a rapper i think hes super, just his beats arent the type of experimental i like.

ive come to this conclusion and its made me rise from bed to type it.
none of my opinions are bad, some are controversial but ALL of them seem to be unpopular. and who wants to fit in, basically the reason we've all landed on a site titled underground hip hop.

i amp it up in the capacity of a troll cuz i kno it pisses people off and it tickles me but i swear to jesus its truly how i feel 99% of the time the shit i say. and this just isnt set with my music opinions either, its across the board. i could seriously be a cult leader as my gf says. mostly everyone else is full of shit and sheep.

While I'm happy that MFake Doom didn't win, Sean P only won because of his passing.

This album is a clusterfuck (of great music), but is no way even close to the cohesive masterpiece, Common - Be.

But's that's UGHH.com. Nut-hug the album cause the rapper is RIP.

That's the only problem with these votes...they aren't in the moment so other influences (like Ruck's death) can play a part when it shouldn't.

All in all, I do love these tho.

Clock, for the love of not being a cornball...don't do the Album of the Decade, please. It's too much.

yup pretty much nsr

buckshot is the best rapper in the group and his album and smif and wes album are better tha any album sean has ever made.
sean is a mediocre punchline rapper not even on redmans level or close to him with that style
but becuz his death and his personality on the net he's somehow the goat? what album has he ever made that is classic
? absolultely not one

Nocturnal is a classic just Rock was better on that album. When Sean made his return was when he started to sound crazy.

i'm not saying that artists aren't glorified after they die or that people don't put them on a pedestal, but i don't think sean p's death was the deciding factor here. iirc imperious rex was pretty low in the top 10 of last year despite it being released only a couple of years after his death. there's been albums from other artists that have passed away included in these rounds and none of them came close to winning, even nujabes which surprised me.

monkey barz isn't in my top 5 for 2005 but i realize that a lot of people just like his albums way more than i do, and aside from common's "be" this is easily the most accessible album in the top 5 so i'm not really surprised that it won.

i actually love common "be" despite my soft comment.

and idk bout everyone else but p was the best album in 05 for me due to sheer replay value. onion head, heartburn, mad man, bye bye w buckshot. even the songs i had previously heard on donkey sean and the gta song all sat well and eventually fit this album perfect. he was a dog on the mic

and ftr i did not vote for jesus price as aoty in the year it dropped although i originally hoped it would be. it was just dope to me, not aoty. same with mic tyson and imperious.

monkey bars struck at just the right time and blew the other two bcc releases out the water far as rawness and replay value went in 0-5. not knocking the boot camp clik in any way, if you look back at the tracklist, all original memebers of the group are featured on monkey bars as well as rustee juxx, great team effort for the camp when they got this "W"

actually, there was a vote in 2005, and monkey bars won it. iiwii.

Link? I can't find anything other than some threads in mid-2005 already declaring it AOTY. No real vote in 2005 or 2006 from a quick search.
