the corny pink jump suit in the street dreams video.

1. You've clearly never seen Casino...which is sad, in and of itself.

2. Aren't you the moron bigging up Cam, the purple/pink Barney, every chance you get?

Talking about corny pink...look at your hero fuckboi.

man, you got to stop saying stuff that you don't even believe, just to get a rise out of people. first, dipset>wu, now this? you even admitted itt you don't believe dipset>wu.

it's hard to tell when you're actually being sincere, if you intentionally troll/lie on a regular basis just for the sake of it.

Camron sounds real as fuck...if you like rappers that are known snitches, lol

On April 22, 2007, Cam'ron was interviewed on 60 Minutes as part of a piece on the Stop Snitchin' movement. He also stated that he would "not help the police" try to locate the shooter saying he is "not a snitch" and helping the police would probably hurt his record sales. He stated in the interview, "Because with the type of business I'm in, it would definitely hurt my business. And the way that I was raised, I just don't do that. I was raised differently, not to tell... It's about business but it's still also a code of ethics"

When asked by Anderson Cooper if he would tell the police if a serial killer was living next to him, Cam'ron replied "I would probably move" but would not inform the police.
Cam'ron later issued an apology for his comments, calling them an "error in judgement": "Where I come from, once word gets out that you've cooperated with the police that only makes you a bigger target of criminal violence. That is a dark reality in so many neighborhoods like mine across America. I'm not saying its right, but its reality. And it's not unfounded. There's a harsh reality around violence and criminal justice in our inner cities." Cam'ron has had contact with the police in the past. According to The Smoking Gun, New York Police Department records indicate that Giles filed a report with police after he was assaulted at a park in Harlem in 1999.

its not just albums/mixtapes. its also:
cam ethering nas,50,jay
cam keeping his sound way harder and raw than nas did
cam putting on like 20 emcees, producers etc.
cam having a real crew unlike nas
cam being more lyrical with more styles

intro...its a whatever track, intro on Illmatic was so gutter and NY sounding, but you cant go wrong with that beat...this is just forgettable

the message....I really dig the beat, along with the lyrics it gives a melancholic feel along with the lyrics. I liked this then and do now....reminds me of good times when this kicks in its like damn, that beat

street dreams....yeah its crossover, but at the time that wasn't such a bad thing. It reminds me a bit of G Rap lyrically, its a dope track. The hook is ok but probably the weakest part of this track. Nas rides the beat well, seems effortless for him

I gave you power....I like the concept, its pretty clever, it was different at the time. He gives it away early in the song. Beat is dope, doesn't scream Preemo to me really. It does drag on a bit for me gets a bit repetitive. But it helps me focus on the lyrics. Nas is good at this sort of thing, it reminds me of his backwards song. That was dope.

watch dem' n*ggas....beat is ok, another one where the lyrics match it they bump along nicely. Its sort of lightweight beat for the content, but a head nodder. Nas is effortless again, he is so conversational on this LP.

take it in blood.....this beat...another melancholic one for me. I find myself focusing on the beat, its more grimy and cold. Nas spits with more energy a bit faster, I prefer this as it doesn't have a sung hook. Drums could do with being a bit harder but I still like the beat

the set up.....got that mobb deep all over it, reminiscent of trife life. I like the storytelling, very queensbridge, its a dope closer for side one.

black girl lost.....kicks of side 2. Beat is aight, its pretty lightweight. Lyrics the same, Nas again makes it sound easy. Its an ok track.

suspect....storytelling on point, but I am not the biggest fan of the hook. Its a good track but beat needs to be heavier for me. More bass.Less static.

shootouts....my god what a beat. Starts hype like one of those 60's spy tv shows, Nas more upbeat and flows so well, then the beat change. Its dope. One of the Lp's standouts, I really love the beat, it detracts me from the lyrics its so good but no crappy sung hook. Great.

nas is coming......typical Dre, he had that sound at the time, you could always tell Dre swagger, its a Dogg Pound beat and sticks out. Saying that, I like it, but it just isn't a NY beat its a west coast beat which is the point, but it doesn't play to Nas's strengths. Big misstep on the album for me. It tries too hard, chronic reference and all that. Dre sounds a bit sleazy when he tell Nas no one can do what he does...

affirmitive action.....great track. It just starts so well. AZ is never boring to me, he has such a great voice, and holds his own with Nas. Real dope beat, they all come correct, it hyped it for the LP. NY grime and gutter, its just what Nas, AZ, Foxy & Mega should spit over.

live n*gga rap....Mobb deep track as already been pointed out. Its another thats dope but doesnt fit.

if I ruled the world.....I liked this track, and still do. beat was ok, hook is ok, but the concept although seems pretty played out now I found dope at the time. He rides the beat well, it is a kind of damp squib to close it out.

I agree with a lot in this thread, I was disappointed with this when it dropped. It does have no unifying theme or tone, it doesn't hang together anywhere near enough like Illmatic. It has one foot in the crossover sound, a toe in the west coast, another in hell on earth some poor hooks, a few lightweight beats. Give me more affirmative action, the set up, shootouts and street dreams beats. The other problem was the competition had stepped up and dope albums were dropping all around it, so it kind of got lost. It does come across as random Nas songs rather than an album. You could split this in two its sequence is so messed up.

But saying that Nas is so effortless over it, and it has some really great songs. His flow is godly. It is classic, but should and could have been greater....I am a huge Nas fan,
copped all his early 12"s loads of those boot remixes and Lp's up to Hip Hop is Dead. He could still drop an album as great as illmatic, given the right beats.
He has such a dope flow.If you grabbed the best tracks off this and the lost tapes you would have another top class classic right there

dope shit, seme. very nice.

it's crazy that lost tapes flows better than this album, lol. although, i think that one has more meh tracks than it was written. although it was written's all over the place, the quality of the tracks are all pretty high, relatively speaking.

shit, it's been so long since i listened to i am or nastradamus. legit, it might be a decade since i bumped those. i'll have to revisit. might make a comp of my fav tracks from these three albums, plus lost tapes.

i've honestly never listened to the firm album. i guess i got to check that too.

tru life is literally a more coherent version of french montana. dude is wack sauce. people that arent from the east coast will never understand camron and dipset. and fuckin camron dude, the guy is a certified legend. i prefer him to nas but being openminded, an idiot would say cam is better. but 100% camron has rapped on better beats than nas. but the influence dipset had still rings true today and thers dozens of projects and rappers involved. nas been eatin off lil kid cover art and one album as his influence for 25 yrs. cam is the man

Nastradamus has got few heaters, I was really let down by this LP

I am....is the same, by this point I was thinking it was all over for Nas, but nas Is Like' is probably my favorite Nas track, its awesome.....

you got me spinning all this old Nas shit now' prolly gonna leave the Braveheart LP and EP in the rack tho' "lol"

for people that hold nas as the greatest of all time. if u exclude illmatic and compile the best songs from the rest of his catalog ud have a short 2 disc joint or one very long winded best of nas album. illmatic is incredible but nas is super overrated. plus jay-z is way better. i like that pic of nas, jay and kendrick. jay and kendrick lookin all classy and nas looking like he got his suit from nj warehouse with his aluminum jesus piece like a str8 up asshole. "lost tapes" is better than it was written to

wats sad is we have these arguments and u could basically make a best of out of every rapper in existence, good, bad and inbetween. having 35 dope songs in ur catalog despite dropped 11 albums or watever is dope to me. the fact that i can compile such a big hit list is cool to me. ther aint too many full albums i love front to back.

i don't know if it's just my versions of those remixes or what, but the mix is kind of rough. i mean, if i made a comp, i don't know if i could substitute out the og tracks from the gfather don remixes, because they'd sound like demos next to the normal songs.

Jay and Nas are two of the most influential rappers ever, and I agree they don't have lots of front to back really top notch classic LP's, but they do have a lot of classic songs

when they went to war it was important, they were both at the top of their game and had a lot to lose. its still debated today as to who won, we all know it was "insert name" who got it. Nas for me. Skill level I have nas too but Jay has punched well above his weight, I never saw him getting as big as he has.

if im being open minded id put nas in my top 10 of all time. but personally i dont think he'd break top 20 for me. but the fact that he got a best of mix in my truck with the likes of ghostface and mf doom is special to me cuz nas just has one of those voices that wen its coming thru over a great beat sounds like rap heaven.

even though i'm more of a nas fan, i prefer the takeover to ether. takeover plays like an actual song to me, whereas ether sounds specifically like a diss track. i know i'm not explaining it right. i hate the ether beat. i don't even think nas flows well on that track, tbh.

takeover, on the other hand, it's crazy to me how confident jay sounds on that, as well as the rest of the blueprint. there's this matter-of-fact assured-ness to his voice that you don't hear on other albums. like he's king of the world. he sounds more casual on later albums, whereas he sounds like he could run through walls on takeover.
