Still looking for the 2005 AOTY where Monkey Barz won...88?

I did find this unofficial (I think) UGHH vote for 2005...the winner...The Documentary.

Imperious rex was pretty low in the top 10 of last year despite it being released only a couple of years after his death

Because that album sounded like shit (similar to Songs In The Key of Price). I started to play IR on vinyl and never revisited it. He sounds really really sick on some of the tracks imo.

Cool to see so many of the albums I chose in rounds 1 thru 4 were in the last round. I definitely slept on that Black Market Militia joint tho. I took a hip hop hiatus from like'03-'06, so this was cool for me to see some other jointz I need to add to the collabo.

'01 is gonna be tough

The Documentary has a lot of peaks, including a couple of my favorite tracks from that year, but also some auto skip dips. Top 15-20 worthy but not touching my top shelf albums from 2005.

Here's 12 through 16 for anyone that gives a shit...

12. Living Legends – Classic - 17
13. Circle of Tyrants - The Circle of Tyrants – 14
14. O.C. - Starchild - 14
15. Think Differently- Wu-Tang Meets the Indie Culture – 10
16. 9th Wonder & Buckshot - Chemistry - 10

Cool album, but I never loved it. Too inconsistent. There are like 4-5 smashers and the rest sort of whatever. Sean Price is the fucking man but he is more style over substance, although he certainly has bars.

Funny how the majority itt have said they don't even think that highly of Monkey Barz, or at least have it in their Top 5 of '05, yet it won pretty convincingly

I wouldn't be shocked if The Blueprint won 2001.

Title track is still my most played off the record, not his best bars on the album but the smooth sample heavy beat, his laid-back flow, and the serious bars tangled in with great one liners just craft such a good song. Perfect way to start the album

Link? I can't find anything other than some threads in mid-2005 already declaring it AOTY. No real vote in 2005 or 2006 from a quick search.

one of the ughh staff members was doing the aoty votes back then. i can't remember who it was. perhaps their history got deleted? i remember they did it all in one massive round, where they post the pic of every album in the OP. then they'd make a second thread announcing the winner. i think. it's so long ago, my memory's hazy on it. but i remember monkey barz winning, because i never got the hype of that album, and i remember being confused that it won.

it might have been dj on and on, actually. hmm. i'm trying so hard to remember who it was, lol.

monkey barz won in 05, packfm won in 06, and then that staff member stopped doing it (if it's on and on, it's because he quit around that time, i think), so there wasn't one in 07. then greg valentine did it in 08 and q-tip's renaissance won. then he stopped doing it, and i picked up the mantel in 11.

well, now it's official. Monkey Barz AOTY 2005.

Clock, let's re-do 2006. That's some straight bullshit if PackFM stays as the winner. It's already been confirmed...Russia meddled in that election too.

From the story i remember, heads from the QN5 forums came over here and sabotaged the voting in 2006 which led to PackFM winning. No fucking way thats even cracking the Top 10 when we do 2006.

nothing remotely mainstream is ever gonna win these yrs. the most disgusting shit is wen we do 1998 and something sweaty and dusty and awful wins over pun or dmx.

If it's going to happen it's going to be in the earlier years (early 00's/90's) when mainstream albums were as good, if not better than underground ones. Both Black Album and Get Rich did fairly well in the 2003 vote.
