speaking of which, you know what grinds my gears about bandcamp? artist control. i mean, sure, it's great to buy the product straight from the artist, and be able to even communicate with them (some of the jerks never respond though). however, what's shitty about it is that the artists have the ability to remove material. canya reial, for example, removed half of his special weedz series from bandcamp, and, if you didn't get them back then, there's basically no way of getting them now. luckily, i got them. sealab, on the other hand. he had 50 projects on his bandcamp, not even two weeks ago, but now he only has five. i was not so lucky with that one. it sucks. 90% of his discography is gone, just like that. if someone new looked, they'd think he's only ever released five project. fake news! giallo point also removed a lot of his stuff. i think it was because he wanted to shift it all to itunes, but i think he left some out of the shift, and those ones are basically just lost to time forever. i could be wrong, though. his whole back catalog might be there. haven't looked into it enough to know.

it's nice that artists have so much control now, but it also allows them to censor their careers by removing old stuff. when there were third parties (labels) involved, it wasn't up to the artist whether or not the material could be removed from history.

i don't think that's specific to bandcamp, artist can remove their music from soundcloud, spotify, and youtube if they want. maybe even itunes, i'm not sure. still sucks though. perfect example is zeroh, who is one of my favorite artists out there right now. there's like 6 or 7 projects of his that were released before 2012 that he removed entirely because he thought they sucked compared to his newer music, and i took me years to hunt down all of it lol. i had to use what.cd, soulseek, and even contact people on twitter.

new noveliss project dedicated to two friends of his that passed away, as well as nujabes. i normally don't like hearing artists rapping over nujabes instrumentals but i think noveliss did them justice, dude never disappoints.

i'm more complaining about this in general, but using my bandcamp related experiences as examples. it's nice that the artists have so much control, but not so nice when they decide to censor themselves by removing old works.

it really sucks that some artists can't stand behind their early work, such as the zeroh example you gave there. it makes me lose a lot of respect for them. once an artist puts a work out to the public, imo, they no longer "own" that piece of work. it belongs to the public.

samuel beckett, for example, put out a draft of waiting for godot. for years, perhaps decades even (i can't remember, off-hand), he put out revised versions, because he didn't like the way people were interpreting his work, so he revised it to be more specific. but, if you go to the library and buy waiting for godot, it'll be that initial draft, because what made waiting for godot so famous was how minimal it was, and how open to interpretation it was. for beckett to undermine that by making changes. i don't know. i don't like that he did that. i love his work, but hate how he would talk about it afterwards.

it's why kubrick, and a lot of the best artists hate talking about their work. (a) the work should speak for itself. (b) the artist giving any sort of personal interpretation diminishes the work by suggesting there's more clarity to be had after the fact, via artistic explanation, which, furthermore, suggests a lack of confidence in the work, as well as suggesting the fact that the work is incomplete. a work of art should be complete when it's put out, so, for an artist to explain/interpret it afterwards feels like a way of trying to further complete it. but then why did you put it out already if it isn't complete? there's an implication in my mind of incompetence. it's why i think ridley scott is overrated, because he's constantly putting out different cuts of his films, like he can't make his mind up.

anyway, i got carried away there with a way bigger topic. my point, in the end, is that i really don't like artists editing their own careers after the fact, and it's one of the costs of artists having more control.

i haven't listened too much to part 2 or 3, but i've listened to part 1 a lot. there are some tracks that are whatever on it, but then there's some total fucking gems on it. i got to get more familiar with the other two parts, and then compile it down to one best-of version. the third sword sounds like a wu-tang song so much, god, i wish some wu members would hop on some of these beats. fav tracks: relax in mui ne, last tango, the third sword, outro, open the door

there's a tonne of filler, but what do you expect when there's a hundred tracks. check it out, some time, though. the good tracks make it definitely worth it. just listen to the song, relax in mui ne, even.

Yesterday and today it's been:

Camoflauge Monk- Last Real Nigguh. All Instros and it's banging.

Hitler Wears Hermes V. Better with each listen.

Heavy Metal Kings. Dope Album. Bill and Gortex stand out big time while Paz does his thing too but really just tries to keep up with almost all of Non Phixion.

prolly the weakest outing by kgr. 2nd half of the album is way better than the first half but seriously the 8 bars he spits on the intro and that beat are the best part of this album.

the best of her years on the decca label. i've owned this for years, but never really gave it any attention until earlier this week. listening to it right now, and it's gold. i've been sleeping on those decca joints, paying too much attention to the columbia years. highly recommended. fav tracks: easy living

admittedly, i listened to this album like fucking crazy a couple years back. it was my gym soundtrack. haven't listened to it much since, because of how much i overplayed it, but bumping it today for the first time in a long time was great. still love it. the production, isaiah's melodic rapping/singing. this guy's underrated and underused by his label/labelmates. i prefer him over all the black hippy members that aren't kendrick. hopefully the wait for his third album isn't as long as the wait for his second album was. fav tracks: soliloquoy, heavenly father, banana, west savannah
