OK so just had a glass of merlot wine this evening, nice shit

Was listening to Ice T power and it occurred to me ice T talks to himself alot, like he pretends to be different people / characters on his records.

In fact, he even did this on Rhyme pays

Did ice truly think by changing his voice tone slightly people would actually think it was a different person?

Surely someone else in the studio would have been able to be the other character? Maybe evil e didn't want to do it?

Does anyone know of ANY other rapper who has done this or is it only ice t?

And don't name positive K, he did this on I got a man but he did it well, most of you on here believed that was a woman

lol, this is a weird, unsubstantiated accusation to make. really, what even prompted you to make this claim? is there some discussion in some thread, where everyone got it wrong? are you just randomly throwing out accusations of ignorance?

lastly, the putting-on-a-voice-to-portray-characters-in-your-story is pretty standard procedure in story raps. you know about story raps, right?

you're perplexed by ice-t "talking to himself" in a song. hasn't it occurred to you that ice-t's telling a story, and, instead of giving the mic to some random studio engineer to play the other roles, he's taken on all the roles? he's the mc. he's telling the story. it's pretty common for the one telling the story to play all the roles. especially in rap.

i mean, seriously, i got to ask again: have you never heard of slick rick? the great adventures of slick rick -- doesn't ring a bell?

ice t is ultra respected by all legends and many newer cats cause he was so smart in how he lived that hard street life but transformed his life, started the rhyme syndicate, had so much substance in his songs, made 4 classics etc. damn, at one point rappers couldnt even perform in l.a. without going through the syndicate.

Seme, I'm. Not troling.
I made a post about positive K way way back and in that thread is evidence of people on here having no idea it was positive K that was actually pretending to be a woman on his record.

As for ice T, I stand my ground, to prove otherwise who else on their skits pretends to be another person they are themselves in conversation with? I can't think of anyone else, others skits have other people playing the characters

Well OK then let's add 'I'm your pusher' an actual track, to the skit list, if you insist, which really just strengthens my point about what ice T does that other rappers do not.

You should get off that weak ass merlot shit, try drinking some Cisco!!

it's hard to believe you've never heard someone take on other voices while telling a story.

i know you've re-arranged your topic to be about skits in an attempt to pretend that you forgot all about slick rick, but, even so, in the OP, you acted like it was some bizarre behaviour. as if people don't do it irl every single day. "Did ice truly think by changing his voice tone slightly people would actually think it was a different person?"

you are so weird and confused.

next, blue's going to make a thread about the magic of recorded music. "does OC truly think i don't know he's hiding in the speaker in my house? how can his voice come out of the speakerbox, if he's not physically inside it? huh? how!? he's a tricky fella, you know. when i turn up the volume, he raises his voice. no matter how quick i hit pause, him and his band immediately shut up."

it's going to be a great thread.

i'd give examples, but i always delete skits from albums on my itunes, so i'm not familiar with skits enough to give any examples. i typically only listen to them when i first get the album, and then never listen to them again.

unless they have a nice beat under them. then i consider making an exception.

there's a couple examples on the tip of my tongue right now, though, where the rapper puts on a voice when playing the role of the wack emcees he's making fun of. ah, it's killing me that my mind isn't getting it for me.

So pop, the only example you can give is some washed up rappers from early 80s who were not relevant after 5 mins who apparently did it on their skits. You have no examples of rappers ice T era and forward, leaving ice T as tbe only one who did this from his era forward , leaving my initial OG post as completely valid. Thanks for your contribution pop but you have put forward no evidence relevant to ice era and forward.

Anyone else?

^ so basically disregarding Pop's answer? Old School MC's used to do this shit all the time, but if its not on wax you won't accept the reality? They were not washed up rappers when they were doing it, they were at the peak of their game, pioneers, so its a bit disrespectful to say the least yoar dismissal of them out of hand. Just because you wern't down then, Pop was...

Why ask the question? You haven't thought that the amount of rappers that do this in songs might also do it in skits too? I mean loads do it so maybe logic would come into play?

Still odd question, and I hate it when OP's change the OP halfway through thread in order to back peddle....wtf is the point?

Another classic Blue post........

also, didn't dmx do this shit for his damien series? i know he did it in the songs, but was there ever a damien skit where he did it?

I'll admit, some valid (ish) points raised, but, you are burying the lines between track and skit, theres lots of tracks with that but skits is what I mean about ice, listen to ices skits and then judge me, by listening you will understand my point very clearly

in that last track i posted, from 1:20 until the end, it's a straight skit, and tyler takes on three voices: himself, his therapist (dr. TC), and a third character named sam.

who the fuck cares anyway, if you're going to narrow it down that much then the entire thread becomes pointless. what's so different about a rapper talking to themselves on a skit vs on a track, when they serve the same purpose? as soon as someone gives you what you're asking for, you tell them you were asking for something else even though you clearly weren't, because you're so determined to be right. 88 just gave a bunch of examples and proved you wrong, so what's the next requirement you'll come up with? has any rapper since ice-t with ice in their name talked to themself on a track? come the fuck on lol, this whole thing is so stupid

the best/funniest part about the tyler example is he doesn't even put on a voice for the third character, sam. he just sounds a bit angrier. it's literally tyler talking to tyler. it's a better example than the ice-t examples, because ice-t at least put on a voice.

win.
