just realized the lesson fahim has been subtly teaching us all along: we're all dump gawds, in our own ways.

damn you're fucked, let me know what you thought of it in 15 years when you finish that series. you just reminded me that i still need to get the rest of those. i just picked up the first three volumes of 20th century boys a couple weeks ago but haven't started it yet, too much to read and not enough time.

i hear you. i got 40 items out of the library now (plus five plays from the theatre library), and most of them are books or comics. there's no way i'm reading all them, before they're due back.

i'm on the last volume of 20th century boys, and then will read the two volumes of 21st. so three volumes left in total. it's a bittersweet thing, getting to the end of these super long but super great series. you want to reach the end and figure it all out, but you also don't want it to end at all.

holy shit lol, don't they have a limit on how many books you can take out at once? or are you at the limit right now? i've never taken out more than 4 or 5 books at once from a library. i guess the nice thing about that though is that it gives you more of an incentive to read them before you have to bring them back.

huh, i thought there were more volumes of 20th century boys than that but i just found out there are only 22. i was thinking 28 for some reason. that bittersweet feeling is exactly why i tend to stay away from these longer series/games nowadays. not only is it a huge time commitment but i get so invested in something and then i get near the end and end up not wanting to finish it because i don't want it to be over. that's how i'm feeling about game of thrones right now because it's one of the only long running shows that i've watched week to week since the jump, so that's like 6 or 7 years lol.

there's 22 volumes of 20th, and then 2 volumes of 21st. so 24 in total. it's his longest series, i believe. no idea how long billy bat was, since i read it one-issue-at-a-time online, and, thus, didn't pay attention to the volumes. i don't think it was as long as 20th, though.

the max at my library is 40 items, so i'm maxed out right now.

man that seems like such a high limit lol. not that i would be complaining, but realistically who is gonna need to take 40 books out of the library at once?

yeah i must have confused 20th century boys with another manga series. i already knew about the 2 volumes of 21st century boys, what's the deal with that anyway? is it just a continuation with a different name or something else entirely in that same universe?

well the library also has movies and CDs and video games. taking out a shit tonne of movies or CDs is properly more normal from library customers than taking out a shit tonne of books, so they probably raised the limit for those items.

they're basically just volume 23 and 24 of the series. it's a continuation/conclusion of the series. no idea why naoki decided to change the title for them. i think i told you before, but it completely fucked me over the first time i tried reading the series, because i accidentally took out volume one and two of 21st, rather than volume one and two of 20th. so i ignorantly read the ending of the series by accident, because of the stupid title change. it was so lame. luckily, i've forgotten most of the details by now, other than the huge details, so i remember what happens, but i also don't really at the same time.

weird, i just looked it up on wikipedia, and it looks like 21st century boys is actually a "sequel". so i guess the final volume of 20th concludes the series, but urasawa must have still had some leftover ideas in his head, and wrote a few more issues. now i'm curious to see how this final volume of 20th ends, and to re-read the 21st volumes and figure out why they were additional, rather than part of the original series.

hmm. apparently urasawa just put out a 21st century boys release that's one volume that collects the OG two volumes into one. and it has a new ending. interesting. came out in december. doubt it's out in english form, yet.

i was gonna say, if it was actually just a continuation it would be pretty fucked up. i can easily see how someone would make that mistake, you see that it's volume number 1 of something and you think it's the beginning.

i hope that two-in-one version of 21st century boys comes out in english by the time i get to that part of the story. the one thing i'm disappointed about is that viz doesn't make the 3-in-1 vizbig editions for this series. the ones for vagabond look so nice.

i got to get back into that series. i stopped at volume 7, because other people had holds on the volumes at the library, and my reading of them started to get farther and farther apart, since i had to wait for them to become available. it became too hard to remember everything, when trying to read volume 7 - all the characters and all that - so i just gave up.

that's my favorite manga format, they're cost efficient and look great on a shelf when the spine art lines up. i'd own so much more manga if other series were collected like that. that's a problem i have with a lot of lengthier japanese series though, a lot of the names are so similar and if i don't keep actively refreshing my memory i'll forget who's who. takehiko inoue's art is fucking beautiful though, there's no denying that. i even read slam dunk just because he did it, and i'm not really into sport/slice of life manga or anime at all. i've only read up to volume 9, i'll finish it some day but i might have to take notes or something as i'm reading it. kojiro is dope though, probably my favorite character as well. a deafmute who communicates with people by dueling them lol.

man gino is going to be upset that we completely derailed his thread
