i never take the end results too serious, knowing how all-over-the-place the tastes on ughh are. the best thing out of doing these votes, imo, is the list of albums in the final round. you typically get a reliable list of worthwhile albums to check out, in case you missed any.

also, i wouldn't say 07 was a bust. below the heavens is definitely my fav album from that year, and was obviously, based on the results, in the top five of most UGHHers. yeah, it was obvious, and it could be argued that that's boring, but i don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. not every year needs to come down to the wire. sometimes, one album stands out pretty hard. such as below the heavens or days of yen lo.

once you guys finish doing all the 00's, are you going to do a "ughh's 2000's hip hop album of the decade"? that could be fun.

just one round of voting, taking all the top 5 or 10 albums from each year's final rounds.

lol gino what are you gonna do when cold vein wins the 2001 vote

i think it would be better to announce the album of the year as well as what year will be done next, then post the nominations thread a few days later rather than right away. that would give people more time to revisit albums from that year.

Yea ill do 2005 then. Ill do nominations this week. While i root for some albums to win over others ultimately the most positive thing to come out of this is me revisiting a bunch of albums I either need neglected or hadnt checked out in years. Last week I bumped nothing but 2003 albums enjoyed every minute of it.

The only AOTY thread i was legit annoyed irl for a few seconds was when RTJ won in 2013 over City Under The City.

Yea 88 ever since we started this I've been talking about taking each winner from every year and pitting them against each other for an album of the decade vote where we either do Top 3 or 5 of the 10 albums to deterimine the winner.

i've had plans and blueprints and chalkboards covered in equations for a couple years now with the intent of doing 2010's-best-of-the-decade at the end of 2019.

does that mean you'll be doing threads for 2008 and 2009? when you guys started doing this it seemed like you were starting at 2007 and going backwards.

even if you had threads from both of those years to pull a top 10 from, they would be opinions that are almost 10 years old rather than a 2018 perspective. take this thread for example, who knows if vaudeville villain would have won if this vote took place in 2003?

I know im in the minority but Operation Doomsday is like my 5th favorite DOOM album behind Madvillainy, King Ghedorah, Vaudeville Villain, and Mouse and The Mask.

This win for VV was just. Only album i wouldve been annoyed if it won was Gang Starr.

Vaudeville Villain is a near perfect record. Production is atmospheric and on point. Concept is fleshed out and well executed, and lyrically the style DOOM uses here is one of his absolute best. It's the absolute most refined and polished form of his Operation Doomsday style, and sadly the last time he would ever use it. Some of the GOAT punchlines on this album delivered by a guy who I don't think anyone would consider a punchline rapper.

Plus I don't know if you guys remember or were into DOOM heavy back then or not, but this shit had a huge impact on the UGHH scene. It was critically acclaimed on release and really helped herald the beginning of DOOM's legendary run.

I feel like you're underrating the quality of this one gino. If King Geedorah had one then yeah, I could see the argument that it didn't deserve it. Even when that one came out it was received kinda half-heartedly, and even I only ranked it as high as I did because of my history with that one, but Vaudeville Villain is as good, if not better than any other album ranked on that list.

Just for shits and giggles, here were 11-15 in the vote...

Louis Logic - Sin-A-Matic – 29
Canibus - Rip The Jacker – 27
Jedi Mind Tricks- - Visions Of Ghandhi – 21
Sole - Selling Live Water – 18
J-Zone - Sick Of Being Rich – 14

And co-sign Graph. Heads are seriously underrated Vaudeville Villain not just from a musical standpoint but also a cultural one. Rave reviews across the board. Even picky ass Pitchfork gave it a 9.1 rating.

MM...Food and Operation Doomsday are interchangeable to me at the fifth spot. The other four i named are on their own level for me. Fucking crazy how Born Like This, which would be some artists best album, isn't even Top 5 in his discog to me. His output in those early to mid 2000 years was fucking incredible.

So ill do up the 2005 nomination thread on Thursday morning then throw up Round 1 the following Monday so we can continue doing the two years per month rate.

I agree tippi in announcing the next year we're going to do a few days ahead of the nominations thread.
