An Old Man Once Said....
He sat there on his chair, almost every moment of the light//
saying nothing, no movement//
only his left arm to smoke his pipe//
every day id walk pass//
it was almost routine//
looking like a veteran, all ragged//
except his soldiers boots were shiny and clean//
i often thought//
whats he thinking will he ever speak?//
then one afternoon when i strolled by him//
he calmly expressed something unique//
his tone was softly weak//
sounded like the flu//
he spoke: 'there are two types of people in this world//
the followers and leaders//
which one are you?//
i rotated 1 80//
he remained in his fixed position//
eyes staring into clear air//
my emotions i have no description//
the next day i walked by, not a sound came from his lips//
i noticed one of his chair legs had broken//
with masking tape he fixed//
i walked and could see words ahead//
on the side walk//
it said 'the givers and recievers' which left me lost in thought//
one morning i departed my yard//
to get to work early//
his chair standing in its same position on the pavement was disturbing me//
in its seat it spoke://
'and the student and the teacher'//
i thought to myself 'this man must be lonely or a psychologically fuked up preecher'//
i began to do my research//
three men had the same reply//
one named him terry//
'he's been unable to speak for 5 years coz he got shot in the throat during the military'//
an evolope drops through my door//
with the name unbreakable, near the heater//
the letters spell the words: 'explain to me who you wana be, the stronger or the weaker?'//
i want an explanation//
what gives him the right//
i approach his chair//
a woman is moving it, this cant b right//
i ask 'excuse me miss where is Terry?//
she replies he died at 8 o clock last night//
i eventually understood what his message was//
it soon became clear in my head//
now when i see confused psyches i tell them this is what an old man once said://
'there are two types of people in this world//
the followers and leaders//(which one are you?)//
the givers and recievers//
and the student and the teachers//
explain to me who you wana be the stronger of the weaker//
now when i mention his name//
i say 'God bless'
if it was nt for this old man//
this verse would not have been a success
" can't fault it .. if it's solid "
there's a certain professionalism .. about your drops
i checked another - decided to reply this one
so keep writing .. and let intonation
handle the rest - peace
sup randymcnare.... thanx ... yea this lyric only goes to slow beats... tried it on a fast beat earlier today... it jus did nt go. peace
there is no God
why else would so much bad shit happen?
hey SIR JIN i did nt forget the 3rd man
the one in the chair b him
he remains silent and lets the 1st two types of people commit the sins
he started it all
he chose not to be heard
except only on one occasion
as for those who are isolated by a promise
its up to them to seek salvation
see your mistaking religion as a hold on your life
who would you rather be a non believer cuttin yourself with a knife
see God did nt give us orders
he gave us a set of rules to comply with
a set of rules need not to be followed
he gave us free will
which is ours to be decided
Yo Slug! What's up! Why you keep posting under different aliases? Anyways that one was dope as usual, I could see it being hiphop if you flowed it over some spooky down tempo beat. Well peace.
Love, your biggest fan:
this is a really good...
Poem, but I dont see this as hip hop.
thanx 4 that one... the reason it seems like som of my lyrics/sentences are forced... is b coz my style/flow is very different to most rappers out there... i even realise it myself... on paper its hard to identify my flow and rhyme.... but when its spitted in the way i do it... it sounds fine. its not to be read... but to b rapped... but thanx for the respect!
i really like what you're writing.
you have a good sense of poetry.
is this meant to be rapped? or only to be read? i like it either way.
my only complaint is that some of the rhymes seem a lil forced. if its meant to be read then every line doesn't have to rhyme.
much love, keep posting your stuff.
Its deep when you say its 2 types of peeps
those who follow and lead
those who learn and teach
those who give and receive
those who are strong and weak ,
but what about those
who long to speak
and can never be heard.
Held captive by a promise,
and won't sever their word.
you said its 2 types of peeps
and keep forgettin the third.
Those who can't be deturred from their God
and his word . martyr.
they give their lives to receive the heaven
follow Gods orders to lead the children
stay strong in faith while weak they're feelin.
Learning just to teach and build within the community his will .
