THE SOUTH GOT SOMETHIN' TO SAY!!!!!!!!!!!
I've been listening to hip-hop for all my life, almost since the beginning. I was living in Germany when I first heard "Roxanne,Roxanne" and was hooked ever since.I'm not German nor am I from Germany, but it amazed me to see how hip-hop had travel so far with so little exposure at that time. I'm talking 88 and 89. Breaking, writing and all that. I love hip-hop like I love my mother. But it's funny to me that some people dont understand this ish is universal. From the south, north, east and west.I know where hip-hop started and I see where it's going. I give props where props is due.I dont like Puffy but he does remind me of the ol' hip-hop with all his dancing and stuff. I really dont think alot of these cats who argue about commercial vs underground even know what there talking about. Mcs have been talking about their material items since hip-hop began ie. U.T.F.O, Schoolly D, Kool Moe and whoever else but now that's not hip-hop. It's jiggy now and sell out. (commercial)
What's up with that? But speaking as if your a scientist makes you underground. I've frequented this forum and read damn near every post and rarely see anyone giving props to the south. And you may ask why the SOUTH. We'll if you look at the sound that made Jay-Z so popular it originated in the SOUTH, yes the South!!!Not Timbaland not Swizz Beats but producers in the SOUTH(DEEP SOUTH,Dirty SOUTH). The SOUTH was bouncing way before anyone else, but there are no props given. I love anyone that supports hip-hop and that's all of you out there, but come on now, RECOGNIZE!!! Also I dont hear anyone speaking on Outkast, Goodie MOB, or Organized Noize (who are right now some of the tightest producers out there). These are southern artist who constantly speak on things other than the normal shoot'em but still no props. But that's ok! If you dont recognize sooner than you will later. Cause like I said "THE DIRTY SOUTH GOT SOMETHIN' TO SAY"
RSen---> I still haven't heard you say anything about the GOODIE MO-B and the their contribution to hip-hop, but you keep mentioning Outkast. Outkast is not the only group from the south that speak on social issues. I guess I can be a good musician by using pots and pans sounds, the same way Primo used a water drip in Jeru's "Come Clean"if you get my drift. And yes Swizz Beats and Timbaland are wack! They basically took the southern sound and ran with it. Creating there own messed up version of it. I dont think the south has made hip-hop ignorant.I think it was getting ignorant way before the south started blowing up. With likes of ODB, the wu spawnlings, Fu-Schickens, and countless other east coast and west coast mc's. Dont blame their fuck ups on the south.
i didn't mention nas because he's wack too. He hasn't made anything good in 5 years. I didn't set myself up for that comment about dc cuz yeah these dc muthafuckas are wack too. The majority of people who claim they listen to hiphop in dc are listening to this mess (radios and clubs are promoting the shit). If you claim that beating pots and pans is music then i guess i can be a great musician too...swizz beats doesnt sample but do you think he's good? Just because you dont sample doesnt mean that you are good. Hiphop has become so ignorant the last few years because of the music from the south (not Outkast..though). Even the music from VA is some commercial nonsense. Please try and explain to me how Timbaland is such a great producer...he steals tv theme songs and makes them into wack beats. G Rap's music is classic beacause he was one of the firsts to do it..the south is then a bunch of biters, right. Please dont try to compare an innovator with cheap ripoffs.
Rsen---->Actually almost everyone in the DUNGEON Family has golds in there mouth. And i dont advocate gang violence ie. bandanas,or whatever. But I do understand that some of the brothers who do talk about that type of stuff really live it. And I'm not saying it's a good thing, because they do all suck to me, but it seems there are several million people out there other than yourself that feel differently. That how these mc's got there platinum plaques DOH! And there must be alot of unintelligent, stupid, idiotic suckas in the dc area listening to the south's unintelligent, stupid, idiotic music(you set yourself up for that). You must have never listen to Goodie MOb's Cell Therapy "See Sega aint in this new world order
Dem experimenting in Atlanta, Georgia
United Nations, overseas
they trained assassins to do search and seize
Aint knocking or asking" where they talk about the state of the world and how they see things from ATL point of view. But i guess you were to busy trying to dis in your post to know that!
And guess Kool G Rap is wack too, he talks about money ,sex and drugs .Ha, whats up that wodie?Remember "Rags to Riches""Talk like Sex""Wanted Dead or Alive" but thats classic right.
Brother in the south didn't start rapping on no park benches. We're not from ny ,so you cant expect the flavor to be the same. I wasn't giving props to CASH MONEY or NO LIMIT but i do respect them because they doing for the south. I was giving props to the Organized Noize and the Dungeon Family and if you read my first post you'd see that.
These are cats who dont use any samples live instruments ie. guitars, horns and all that. But like I said no props. I see you didnt mention Nas who adopted the bounce sound and is selling millions records to many of you backpackers. But just like the brothers did back when hip-hop started the used turntables because they didnt have instruments. So they worked with what they had. Maybe its the same case with the brother who use the casio sound, there using what they can have. And once agian I say this ish is bigger that coast or region its about making good music even if you make the ish beating on pots and pans. But like i said the people in dc get props cause they know where its at! DIRTY DIRTY
sweets--you're saying that no limit and cash money are saying the same things as jay-z, mobb deep and all of them as if its a good thing. they all suck...the southern bounce is the stupidest shit i've seen in a long time. the beats sound like some simple casio beats with no melody or complexity whatsoever...also, i'm from the dc area and this bounce stuff has gotten very popular here and the shit gives hip-hop a bad name..outkast is the only group from the south saying anything intelligent...you don't see big boi and andre bouncin around in gold teeth and bandanas in their videos do you..they talk about social issues while "all" of the other southern rappers talk about the same tired topics of money and drugs...the south got something to say---yeah, we make unintelligent, stupid, idiotic music for suckas to get down to...
i heard westcoast female mc medusa was getting down with the dungeon family, anyone knows what's up with that?
Well I dont know where you have been for the past 6 months but if I recall correctly Outkast just dropped a quadruple platinum album not to long ago. I really dont know what your listening to but if you listen to any Ruff ryders album or anyone associate with them ie. Jay-Z,Memphis Bleek,Dmx,Timbaland, missy and whoever else using a bouncey track ie. rolling hits and snares thats who I'm referring. No producers were doing that type of stuff before the SOUTH. I dont see anything wrong with CASH MONEY or NO LIMIT.These brother say the same thing as Mobb Deep, Jay-Z,DMX,Noreaga,Nas,Ogc, and any other thugged out mc.They just say it with a Southern drawl. And what I mean by the south was bouncing before anyone else is that Mannie Fresh has been producing music for about 7 years and so had several other southern producers.Other than the south there was no bounce in hip-hop or in any hip-hop tracks.
Can you say that there was a bounce sound in hip-hop 7 years ago.No! But that bounce sound was here in the SOUTH 7 years if not longer.Whether it be booty music or just a regular song. It seems like something new but its not. I'm trying to get you to listen to anybody.I just was saying the SOUTH GOT SOMETHIn' to SAY!!!!!! Its all suppose be universal, but it's not because everybody is not listening to everybody. And isn't that what hip-hop is suppose to be about, I tell you about whats going over here and you tell me what's going on over there. But if you dont listen to me and I dont listen to me then we cant expand the culture.
Yeah, I thought you were gonna mention Cash Money or No Limit. The groups you mentioned are mad dope but they haven't really droped much that's good or horrible enough to be mentioned lately. What do you mean by the South was bouncing before any one else? Are you talking the southern bounce? If so, I haven't really heard any really dope cuts that really use that Southern bounce. Whatever it's just not my thing.
