Hi everybody how are you today. It's all about advancing and thinking a lot in 1999. "We idolize cartoon missles" "Music so advanced we need computers to listen" Im scared!! My once "One for the trouble" laugh joy, has become home of Harvard grads and doctrines. We dont JUST jam like alot of other musicians. We make it hard, we rack our brains on the way we are going to change things. I remember when I saw "I Aint No Joke" on TV, Rakim rhymed man! "Bad" by LL Cool J "I eliminate punks/cut em up in chunks" All that fun and games is over. THINK MAN!! All I do is THINK. I like doing it sometimes but DANG!! Can we just jam, maybe not now, but one day can we be able to just "Rock, Rock Yall" Will this ever happen again. Or will my hip hop become a music and culture cluttered with "Divine Disapointment"

shaleem stands correct
why are you complaining? jurassic 5 will be dropping soon. thats party rap at its best. its out there you just need to look.
check the non-prophets single, "bounce" is great fun, and you can think at the same time?!???!?
Word. I love a lot of new innovative music like shit from Styles of Beyond, etc. but I think one of the main essences of hip-hop can't be forgotten which is the shit that makes your head bob, getting you amped, nahmean. That's why the four albums I recently picked up have a balance: Dr. Dre and Tash, but also Mos Def and Swollen Members. Heads can't deny that they don't get amped when the listen to some songs Dre's done lately like "What's the Difference" and song 11 with Snoop. But I also love Mos Def's album which is very innovative and lyrically dope.
I agree that heads can't get too caught up in music that always has lyrics that you have to think about, but heads also can't deny it either. Plus a lot of artists that write that good old jammin on the mic shit are good lyricists such as the Alkaholiks, etc. A mix of both styles, so long as it doesn't involve a lack of talent like Puff, etc. is what I like.
I TEND TO CREATE A NICE BALANCE OF THE TWO....(if that's how it is to be catergorized)
It depends on what you want out of music.
Do you want mediated works and works that emphasize originality and creativity? Or do you want background music while you do something else (esp. another unmediated task)?
it's not that people SHOULD just rap about money, clothes, jewels, etc... but when they do, maybe they shouldn't be dissed so hard by kids who just started listening to this music a few years ago... or anybody for that matter. not that the emcees give a damn anyway, i hope. to an extent at least.
it doesn't have to be one or the other... as long as there is hip-hop, there'll be slick rick, jay-z, juvenile... and there'll also be rakim, mosdef, PE, etc... and so on.
i like to have fun once in a while... and i'm probably not going to do it to the pseudo-intellectual stuff... but that doesn't mean i have to do it to BLING!BLING! either (though i probably will).
has anyone ever heard of progression?????
i'm not defending anyone, but i hate this "oh...they used to rhyme about partying, clothes, and gold back in the day, so that's how it should be now" BULLSHIT!
yeah i remember that too tom...it was yesterday.
That's why this tight-ass "innovative", intellectual Hip Hop is for the birds (and I don't mean chickenheads!).
You've been informed.
