is everyone here sick of Premier? Has he worn his formula a litle too thin? Are the same drum patterns and scratch-hooks growing a bit monotonous? Should he try digging somewhere other than the Jazz/Soul crates?
Hell, I don't think so. Call me gullible because I'm still falling for his old tricks. That new Rakim Joint -my god that track's nice. And Mos Def's Mathematics. -I'm lovin that. (It does sound a little like "Itz a Setup." though). He just drops a groove and keeps it simple and that's fine by me.
even the limp/meth beat is slammin'. you know what i'm saying? you know that was a throw away track for primo. even his weakest shit is dope shit. the chain is only as strong as it's weakest link. primo is a true king. i just wish dude from gimp bizkitz wasn't on it ya'mean. corny ass motherfucker that AIN'T hip hop.
well, i for one really dig primo, more for the depth of his work in his narrow style (i mean that in a good way) than the breadth of his work across styles. primo has perfected and executed again and again his own style. it's instantly recognizable (as are his numerous clones). it's a deceptively simple recipie:
- add straight forward real
- stir in dj'ed chorus with numerous spicy
cuts that go well together
- lightly stir.
- gently add a nice emcee
- serve raw
Honestly, I think everyone on this board ignores what I believe to be the most important part of hip hop production. Overseeing and guiding the emcee on how to lock to your beats. This is actually where Primo's real strength is, as everyone kinda spits the same over every Primo beat and it locks very nicely. Give credit where credit is due, Primo can make cats sound better than they actually are, and it's not just his beats.
But, as I've always expressed, historically, I feel Eric Sermon equally as much as Primo - possibly moreso. But that's another discussion entirely.

PS: If Marley and Cold Chillin were still doing things in the 90's, nobody would be talking about Primo. hahahahaha.
- add straight forward real
Everybody and they mama know i'm sick of him.
yeah i am getting kinda sick of primos formula but there are not many people the elevate to his level so as long he is still produceing my neck will still ache...
Premier is a legend.
I was listening to Nas' new CD the other day, mainly just for the Primo track and damn, that was nice as hell. It always sounds like Nas and Primo are made for each other. Nas should wake up and see that. Whenever he has Primo doing his stuff its almost like he steps to a new level and brings his best. The rest of the stuff is garbage.
You would never hear Nas singing a hook like on Nastradamus on a Primo track. That is sooo garbage. Only if Nas woke up, I would have bought all his albums.
And what happened to his work with Large Pro? Pete Rock? Damn, even Q-TIP with One Love did tight production. These artists need to wake up. They must have no ear for good music.
Primo seems to have his favorites. For instance he laced Group Home with Legacy, and earlier this year he laced Freddie Foxx. I'm an ardent Primo fan but the last few tracks he's done, aside form the above I have'nt been crazy about. ie Limp Bizkit, Rakim, Mathematics, and Jay-Z's new one is horrible. But every time I start to feel like that wit Prim, he laces us with tracks like Legacy to show why he is the best. Besides how can any of us criticize him? He's ten years deep, I'm just putting out my first 12'.
