For Those Of You That Don't Know Sh*t About Real House Music
aiight , i'm not here to debate , neither to get heads heated , you don't like house ? fine .
BUT , i know that most of you , if not all of you , never really had a taste of what real house music is all about .
this is a snippet of a beat that i found on some site , i didn't want to search much but this was the coolest one i could find
If i had some webspace i would rip some of MY shit and not some shit i randomly found on the net .
Still , just listen to the first 30 seconds , that's all i'm asking , just listen , and realize that house music goes way beyond your wildest dreams ( i'm not talking about THAT beat in particulary ).
i'm saying that cuz the possibilites with house music are UNLIMITED , if you only knew .... anyways .
Like i said , cool with me if you don't like house , just listen to the first 30 seconds of that beat ,,, who knows , you might just like it ...
that beat has some jazz and funk samples , but the house music that i own is mainly 100% live instrumentation ,,, with incredible dope solos
anything over 130 BPMS is just plain annoying
especially when you got a musical style that only rocks the same bpms 1 million times at redundant astronomical speeds.
the GOOD house music is the hardest one to find , just like GOOD jungle or good hiphop .
what you hear on the tv/radio/clubs DOESN'T really represent what real house music is all about .
example = if i had never heard of hiphop before , and i turned on the tv and radio , i would mos def think that hiphop SUCKS SHIT.
i used to HATE funk , untill i found the funk that *I* like . you dig what i'm saying ?
that`s why i dont hate on any styles of music like used to , cuz i know that one day i might just find that sound that will get through me ...
word to music
crescent room, cool. any idea of what time? i'll try to swing through
yeah, thats a good point about even if it hasnt been made yet willy.
yo garf, i didn't make it out of the studio until 1:30am so needless to say i didn't make it....oh, and on this minday coming up, there are my boys, rio negro playing at the crescent room around the corner from earwax....they're tight.....get there if you can...
ezel, i would agree that most house music is equivelant to diarreah in the ears, but its the same with any genre of music
99% of anything is complete shit, BUT it all has the potential to flipped in a very tasty manner
there is house music that you would dig, maybe even if it hasn't been made yet
Speed Garage is basically house with Jungle basslines... or more like jungle with house drumkicks. of course house has basslines, but not like jungle basslines.
Garage, in general, formed as an alternative to jungle... a "sexier" jungle. That could appeal more with women and adults, etc. etc. That's why there's more vocals in garage, and USUALLY the simpler 4/4 drum. But now garage is starting to go pop like with Artful Dodger and that Craig David kid. all that annoying 2-step shit. bah!!
I'm not knocking the 4/4 signature. I was more knocking the over-genre-sizing in electronic music. How small changes, changes what it's called. Those 4/4 drums are so primal... you can just dance to it and go crazy.
yeah i liked that first daft punk album too. their new single isnt bad but i hear the rest of the album sucks
im with ezel...... i dig dee light the chemical brothers and the first daft punk album... but house is just gay..... i dont care if its jazz muscians playing it or not it is bad....
that's cuz you never heard house music performed by jazz musicians!
yeah, they are about as housey as i can get with though
ousp , i meant between 115 bpm and 130 bpm !
Big up to all of you .
garfunkel , deelite ain't house music man!
lord360 , hummm , what you said is a bit vague .. house usually ranges between 150 bmp and 130 bmp tops .
"add deep basslines to it, and it becomes speed garage"
i don't get that , a deep bassline doesn't make a house track "garage" ,any style of house can have a deepbassline , let it be jazzy , deep , tribal or whatever .
garage is mainly defined with it's STRONG vocals that have a gospel touch to it .
check byron stingly with his old hit " youuuu make me feeeel "
i understand what you guys mean about the same old 4/4 drum pattern , but i look at it this way , the 4/4 is like the bread , the structure , but after that , you can add whatever ingredients you want over that bread to make one hell of a crazy sandwich aka a dope house track !
but like they say , not everyone understands house music ...!
some house is pretty ill.....but i dig the older shit like tony scott, paul simpson, frankie knuckles and little louie vega...but sadly i haven't been up on house for a few years now.....so excuse my ignorance on the music as it is today
"house" is like musical diarreah comming into my ear through a funnel
but hey, deelight was pretty cool.
yo nodoze did you ever swing by that club on tuesday? we skated at like 11... shit was horrible man. i only sat in for 2 songs and then walked off the stage and out the door. it was all jazz fags wearing all black and shit.. worst guys i ever played with. they were all at least twice (some thrice?) my age too. needless to say, i wont be playing there again next tuesday.
"House" doesnt interest me that much.
MASTERS AT WORK are the illest!!!! i've said on here before that they are in my top 5 on production and that's the real...there's this song by the kings of tomorrow on defected records right now, with a roger sanchez remix that is hittin' like a mugg...anyway, i stay open to all genres 'cause frankly, hiphop is kinda boring right now... and van ful of...how about that nuyorican soul ish, huh?!
i got that cd lexus... its cool
i actually saw them in december too... nice live show... definitely was feelin that more than the cd
well actually house and hiphop share similar roots: 70s jazz, soul, disco & funk samples. They also use the same gear: MPCs,SPs,ASRs,Fender Rhodes etc...
It is even not uncommon to find the same sample freaked in different ways from a hiphop producer to a house producer!
I personally dig deep house, which is basically jazzy sounds and basslines over 4/4 beats.
In my area, a lot of hiphop producers actually also produce house under alias names. And im talkin major producers, very well known to the hiphop underground scene!!
DJs like Funkmaster Flex often incorporates house beats & disco classics (basically prehouse)in his live sets @ the tunnel and on hot97. i dig the fact that he subliminally blends in house and hiphop stuff together!!
Of course yall know DJ Skribble is also on the hiphop and house vibe...but much more on a commercial level on both sides heh.
Then u got peeps like Armand Van Helden and Kenny Dope from Masters at Work, that have produced classics in both scenes, and brought in hiphop vocals and breaks to house.(any1 remember heldens "da funk phenomenon" ? the whole track was built around a redman vocal sample)
of course theres a lot of crap house out there(actually as much as there is in hiphop heh) so u gotta dig for the good stuff...
I recommend yall check out St Germain, he is to me the dopest deep house artist, and recorded his last album on Blue Note records, with a few real jazz players. The LP is called 'Tourist' and it actually hit the first spot on the BET Jazz billboard chart(a first for a house record!).theres even a couple hiphop trax on the LP so dont sleep. special props to this guy cuz hes from my native country so heres a snippet of the LP for yall:
I've always liked house music...(dont kno too much about any names either) i am feelin some trance type shit too...
