Ughh.com Computer Geeks - I Need Help
Here's my problem:
This problem involves two computers, with one computer coming into play later.
Computer A = MS Windows 98
Computer B = MS Windows 2000 Server
Computer C = MS NT 4.0 Server
* Both of these computers are on the same network and certain drives are shared.
I have a Microsoft Access 2002 database(s) stored on Computer B. When I access them from Computer A, the database(s) run slow as shit (queries run slow, browsing data in them is slow (I MEAN SLLLOOOWWW!), etc.). However, when I put the same database(s) on Computer C, they run extremely fast (like they are supposed too)!
Does anyone know what the fix is? I'm pretty positive it has to do with the permissions set up on Computer B, I just don't know how to fix this and what the permissions should be.
Any help would be much appreciated and if you don't want to leave a long explanation in this post, please e-mail me with a phone number and I'll call you.
Thanks my fellow UGHHers...
well, if your permissions were not granted, you wouldn't be able to run queries at all.. . i'm not sure what that has to do with performance. you are logged in as administrator, right?
Database = Access 2002 format.
This database works fine from my Win98 machine when I house it on the NT 4.0 server.
However, once it's housed on the Windows 2000 Advanced Server, it runs slow as shit.
For sure has to do w/ permissions - I just don't know what the permissions should be!
you don't think maybe its just cause your running 98 on compA, and nt on compC? I'm not sure how good 98 is for anything except un-networked 1 person usage.
i really don't know though.......
It doesn't matter where you use it, you are still using AOL.
If I can do it, then anybody can.
I didn't offer any help to quest, I used logic to answer your question by reading what quest said in the first place. Don't fret none, tons of people in the "computer world" ask complicated sounding questions when they really don't know what's going on. Just so they can look like they know more than they do.
you've got mail
That 65 year old broad you were cybering with last night in the InteraccialChat room wants some more of that dig ol' bic.
if u dont know anything y are u speaking about it
and uhm i use aol at home u idiot not at work
Cist- you utter moron
I don't know shit about databases != I know everything
Besides that, haven't you seen the AOL ads? If that family of old broads can use AOL, anybody can. Of course your network is working fine. It's fucking AOL
quest, do you have the same amount of RAM in both machines? also, what DB is this? Access?
on another note if my network is working correctly then i dont think im the confused one
one thing doesnt have anything to do with the other...thats as far as access to databases from networks or the web
im tired of arguing with ignorant people who think they know it all
How the hell did I shut down highme? You're a confused individual Cist.
Cist, idiot, a "couple of courses in networking" doesn't mean dick. Are you aware of the number of absolute braindead fucks that visited some braindump sites and got their MCSE's that don't have a clue when it comes to practical knowledge?
As far as getting shut down by quest? I don't see it. My question wasn't directed at him, it was directed at you. and that question is
in big letters so your dumb ass can read it
Do you think that if he using this database for this website it is compressed or encrypted?
again, somebody who took a class and doesn't have any practical knowledge.
and like I said above
I don't know shit about databases
Also, as I have stated before, all statements on a technical nature are completely void if they are made by somebody using AOL to connect to the interweb.
wow highme just got shut down by his own man quest
now whose the moron
wow your a real idiot highme u dont know what the "fuck" you are talking about untill you take a couple of courses in networking then speak your mind otherwise shut your wack mouth
The database runs fine for Internet Users (the IUSR account on the machine).
But it doesn't work fine for me when I'm working within the windows environment.
I love when morons start dropping knowledge on shit that they don't have a clue about.see: Cist
Now, I don't know shit about databases, but, if he is using said database as this website, do you really think it's encrypted or compressed (no matter how slow it seems to run at times)
Ask Ghostface Killah, I think he knows.
Aww shit, he gave you the evil eyes.
THE WALLY CHAMP don't like you quest.
damn an here i go an give this guy advice
Learn how to spell 'fukk', fuckface.
